5 nights in Moorea

Very nice hotel, with a very friendly staff. We had booked a garden view room with a pool, and was upgraded free of charge to an overwater bungalow due to renovations still happening at the hotel. They also included a $50 per night credit for our stay because of the renovation. Couple nights a week they offer a Polynesian buffet dinner and show. They have a wonderful restaurant in the middle of the over water bungalows that server both savory and sweet Crepes, and delicious cocktails. Beautiful scenery and was able to see a black tip shark swim by.

Amazing snorkeling right in the resort

The food here was excellent. Unfortunately the main pool was still being refurbished when we arrived so the view wasn't as good as it could have been. They took all the fences down on our last day-it looks great though. The room was very comfortable and I really liked all the resident rodent control units (cats). Snorkeling in the resort was first rate. Thank you to John Stanier from Venture Tahiti for setting up our trip for us-it was effortless and everything went without a hitch. I really liked our room with the private pool. The only things that I would change are: The Tahitian show/buffet-there were so many people that the lines were really long to get food and there was a lot of music and dancing but no explanation of what everything was. There were obviously different dances for different occasions but nothing was explained. The second thing I would change is- we arrived at the resort at 8am (dead tired from flying overnight) and couldn't check into our room until 1-2 pm. They did have free pastries and juices and coffee and a place to sit, but its hard to be comfortable when you're that tired.

Honestly, this trip was exactly what we had been looking for. After our great experience booking w John through venture tahiti, we honestly didn't expect anything less. The resort was exactly as imagined and the weather was perfect. La ora na

Hospitable staff and great snorkelling

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

So after much research we narrowed the choice of hotel to the Sofitel and The Hilton, price point and location is what swung it for us. The hotel organised a shared taxi ( CFP 3200.00 for 2) to pick us up from the airport to the hotel. The drive was about 30 minutes and takes you along Cooks Bay and is located just before Opunohu Bay. The footprint of the hotel is quite small squeezed in between the road and the sea but it doesn't seem to feel congested or cramped. The open plan reception has plenty of seating and we were checked in by Norma who was very helpful. As we were going to stay in an overwater bungalow in Bora Bora we chose a villa with a pool. We wanted a villa with some privacy around the deck area and we were allocated Villa 50. The plunge pool is nicely secluded but the deck in front of the from sliding doors is visible to people walking along the path and heading from the overwater bungalows. The room itself is a bit tired but clean and with a nice large comfortable bed. The minibar is complimentary which is a nice touch nd there is also a plentiful supply of complimentary water. And just a reminder to look towards the rear of the property from your villa, the view of the mountain behind the hotel is as spectualr as the sea views. Breakfast in the main restaurant has plenty of choice and a live station for eggs. There is a nice seating area on the outside with views over the sea. As with the rest of the resort all the staff were very attentive and helpful. We booked for the Polynesian dinner which is held on a Saturday and Wednesday. The food was fine and the show was entertaining especially when they get the guests up to dance as well. For lunch we ate at the Rotui Grill and Bar by the pool. Again service was great and the food tasty. We had one dinner at the Toatee Crepes and Bar which is on the pontoon. Again the meal was good and the added bonus here was that as it's located overwater there are plenty of fish swimming by and some reef sharks to add to the evening entertainment. For us though the star of these resort was the hotel reef. With the barrier the distant atoll creates the water at the beach is very calm, almost like a pool. The visibility in the water is great and you can wade into the water for some distance. There are so many fish to see just of the beach that we spent hours in the water in near perfect conditions. When we now reflect on the other snorkelling trips and hotels we stayed in Bora Bora and Tahitis, this was easily the best. We did a few excursions while we spent the week here including Sea Scooter, Coco Beach, Frankyfrank tour of the island and Scuba diving, so it's a good base to explore and enjoy activities. There is Robert Wan pearl shop on site, if you want to buy black pearls. Probably the only downside of the resort is the length of the beach. It is squeezed in between properties on both sides so there isnt a long expanse of beach to walk. Overall we were very pleased with the choice we made, particularly for the service and the snorkelling at the hotel reef.
