About the Hotel

A beacon of refinement in a storied European city, The Charles Hotel Munich is a taste of upscale luxury in Munich. Established in 2007 and built by architect Christian Sattler on the site of a former university library, this tasteful hotel is part of the new Lenbach Gardens. The walls within display a large collection of original paintings by the celebrated Franz von Lenbach, a 19th-century German artist, blended dynamically with modern elements and Art Deco-inspired shapes. Individual character and charm grace each of The Charles Hotel's 160 rooms and suites, many of which offer views of the city or surrounding gardens. Among the most spacious in the city, the guest abodes here are outfitted with top-of-the-line features like Bavarian limestone finishes, towering picture windows, French balconies, flat-screen televisions, and wireless internet access. A further welcome in the midst of a lively city, The Charles SPA offers an indoor pool, heated mosaic lounge chairs, a Finnish sauna and aromatherapy steam bath, and a fully equipped TechnoGym fitness center - not to mention the menu of invigorating and relaxing treatments. Start with a Surrender Massage and then try the Detox Body Ritual to refresh and renew like never before. This is your time, at The Charles Hotel.

Reviews for The Charles Hotel Munich

Grand but not perfect

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

The good : The hotel is well located both for the railway station and for visiting the city of Munich and has a good sized, tranquil spa for relaxing after a busy day of travel or sightseeing. Even the classic rooms are clean and spacious with a generous selection of deliciously smelling toiletries. The spa area is amazing and was never busy during our 2 day stay although children are allowed in at certain times during the day. Staff throughout the hotel were friendly and approachable, in particular the lovely ladies at the spa reception . Although expensive at 55 euro per person if not included in the room rate (35 if included), the buffet breakfast is extensive and of good quality with many different cold meats, cheeses, fresh fruits, vegetables, yoghurts, pastries, cakes, juices, sausages and freshly prepared egg dishes. But: the quality of service was somewhat lack-lustre at times and not always what is to be expected from a (correspondingly priced) 5 star hotel. I reserved directly with the hotel and was asked if I wanted twin beds as I was travelling with my son. I said I did. On arrival, the receptionist announced happily that I had a large double bed… Not a problem in itself - I was happy he offered to ask housekeeping to convert the bed into twins at the time of our choosing. Although we organised our evening around this, it was not actually done until at least an hour after the agreed time. When the room was cleaned the next morning, used towels and face cloths were removed but not replaced and we had a turn-down service one evening but not the next. Some of the coffee capsules had expired and did not work; the replacement ones were obviously fresher and worked fine. I was given 3 different sets of information by different members of staff regarding opening hours of the spa, all 3 of which differed from the information on the website! Other reviewers explain that tea and coffee are available at all times in the library area, but this was not mentioned expressly by anyone at the hotel. For me though, the most disappointing aspect was the “lunch bag” the hotel offered to prepare since we were leaving before breakfast was served. Instead of a copious buffet breakfast, we received a sad lunch pack consisting of a small (+- 15 cm) section of tough baguette with sliced chicken and lettuce, a banana, a peach, a kitkat and a bottle of water! The paper bag in which it was served was very elegant though! Overall a pleasant stay but I’m not sure if I will return; other hotels in similar price range provide more consistent service and better value for money but the hotel is definitely an option for a short stay in Munich.

Modern hotel in a good location

We had a very nice stay at the Charles Hotel. We prefer a more modern hotel and this fit the criteria. The room was spacious and had a nice view of the park. The double doors open to allow fresh air into the room which was perfect. The staff was accomodating and friendly. The spa amenities were included during our stay which made it a 5 star experience. The sauna, steam room and pool are a nice touch to make your stay more relaxing.

Lovely Stay

This was our second visit to the Charles Hotel in Munich and we were happy that we had returned. Comfortable, well appointed rooms, efficient staff, prompt room service and with enjoyable food. It was Oktoberfest and very busy in Munich but the Charles staff handled everything efficiently and expertly. Well done Rocco Forte!

Very very nice hotel. Great location, parking on site, modern and spacious rooms. The breakfast was really good. I would return for sure as the rooms were really comfortable. About 10 mins walking distance to Marienplatz. A very nice experience.

Super comfortable, spacious with great service!

Excellent service from the moment we arrived…smiles and assistance at the valet. Rooms were ready…and so spacious, clean and well appointed with charging stations, etc. Plenty of closet space. Excellent writing desk, comfy large reading chair and lots of lights. The bathroom was also top notch. Extra plus is lots of water available “complementary” and coffee station in lobby, too. The front desk service and housekeeping is also great. Oh, and the breakfast buffet…so so good! I cannot wait to return here!
