Consider yourselves in good company when you check into the Taj Mahal Palace. With its fantasyscape of Moorish, Oriental and Florentine styles, this architectural marvel has welcomed Maharajas, kings and presidents since opening in 1903. Along with panoramic views of the Arabian Sea and the Gateway of India, this spectacular Mumbai landmark boasts vaulted alabaster ceilings, onyx columns, hand-woven silk carpets and a magnificent art collection whose dazzling pieces range from Belgian chandeliers to Goan Christian artifacts.

We stayed here for just one night on a short staycation and it turned out to be such a memorable experience. This place has always been on our list, and the excitement before checking in was high — happily, most of it lived up to our expectations. Right from the start, the warmth of the staff stood out. The way they welcome you and take care of the little details really reflects the Tata tradition of hospitality that everyone talks about. It never once felt mechanical — there was a genuine sense of care. The property itself is beautiful. The pool, Jacuzzi, fitness center, and lobby are all very well maintained. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with a stunning view of the Gateway of India and the Arabian Sea. Waking up to that sight was truly special. The most unforgettable part of our stay was the historical tour. Walking through 121 years of history, listening to stories, and seeing the heritage corners of the hotel was almost magical. It felt like being part of something timeless. Even though it was just a one-night stay, it gave us memories we’ll always cherish. This hotel is more than just a place to stay — it’s an experience in itself. Highly recommend it to anyone visiting Mumbai.

Staying at the Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai feels like stepping back in time, with its grandeur, history, and unmatched hospitality. The service is impeccable – from room service to housekeeping, every detail is taken care of with warmth and professionalism. What stood out most was how well-trained the staff are – attentive, discreet, and genuinely caring. It is a reflection of excellent management that every interaction, whether big or small, feels seamless. The Taj is also known for extending its care beyond guests, with thoughtful initiatives like the welfare of the stray dogs around the property, which speaks volumes about the hotel’s values and sense of responsibility. Breakfast in the Old Wing is truly special, with its charm and atmosphere setting the tone for the day. We also enjoyed the many dining options within the hotel – the Chinese restaurant and the Bar were highlights. The Afternoon Tea experience was beautiful: a delicious spread that seamlessly combined Mumbai’s street food with classic Western fare, served in an elegant setting. A lovely surprise was the complimentary heritage tour of the hotel, which brought alive its fascinating history, followed by a ride in an antique horse carriage (now converted to electric) – a charming touch that made our stay even more memorable. The hotel’s location also makes it perfect for exploring Mumbai. Within walking distance you’ll find some must-visit spots: Leopold Café, Subko Coffee at Kala Ghoda, Knead, and Americano. While I did visit the iconic Britannia Café, I must admit it was underwhelming compared to the buzz around it. Overall, the Taj is not just a hotel – it’s an experience. A perfect mix of history, elegance, and warm Indian hospitality. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Mumbai.
