Reviews for The Taj Mahal Palace

Treating with contempt in the poolside area

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

I dislike the staff's behaviour towards me. I was at the poolside area, taking a picture, when a short man approached me and asked if I was a guest and which room number I had, as I had just checked in and my parents were at the reception. I didn't know my room number, and he was insulting, saying that I was not allowed to take pictures in that area. Is this the way to talk to a guest?

Extraordinary experience

Beautiful property with timeless charm. The food is delicious, service is quick, and the staff are incredibly polite. A flawless stay at the iconic Taj Mumbai. Top notch hotel, highly recommended.

Beautiful hotel and amazing staff.

An elegant hotel in a great location. The room was very nice with a perfect view of the Gate to India. The service was outstanding in all functions, from the reception, to the floor manager and room service. Very professional and friendly. We ate at the Grand Dragon and the food was superb especially the Peking Duck. The staff were so attentive and friendly. Overall a wonderful experience.

Unforgettable stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

My recent stay at Taj Mahal palace was an outstanding experience, From the moment we arrived we were treated with such warmth and genuine hospitality, MS Amrita at the check-in did a great job. The property's timeless elegance, combined with impeccable service standards ,made it truly remarkable. From the Check-in to Dining reflected the Hallmark of Taj hospitality. A perfect blend of heritage charm and modern luxury. Had an exceptional 2 days stay. cant wait to be back.

Opulent setting but soulless and underwhelming service!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

We went to one of the most iconic hotels in the world but were left disappointed. The hotel is magnificent in terms of opulence. The architecture and interior stunning is jaw dropping! However, the hotel has become a parody of itself becoming more of a tourist attraction than a functioning hotel… On arrival, welcome felt very chaotic! There were so many people entering and leaving! We went during Diwali so the hotel was not full but there are so many tourist visitors that the hotel literally can’t tell who is a hotel guest and who is a tourist! It took an age to get through security and for baggage to arrive indoors! There was no welcome as such..how can there be with so many people entering? Reception ushered us to a club room for check in. We were offered a drink which seemed to be cheap squash(?) During check In process, they did a traditional welcome Indian ritual and took a photo but honestly, felt like going through the motions and for the sake of it. They probably have to do same to every guest and looked bored and uninterested doing it..the service didn’t feel special of personalized. The room was spacious and well set out but felt a bit underwhelming in terms of decor! A bit plain and dull which surprised us.. However, outside of room, the long corridors, staircases and various communal spaces are mesmerizing! One definitely gets the “wow” factor walking through the hotel seeing grand decor and feeling the history of the hotel! Swimming pool area was nice enough though the 2 minute light show is basically a Taj advertisement and a waste of time! The hotel offers a complimentary tour which we enjoyed! Service in the hotel was variable! When we rang reception from our rooms at night , no one answered or they took an age to answer! So if you want extra items for room or service; be prepared to either be ignored or wait a long time for someone to answer! This felt shocking for a hotel that considers itself five star! What if there was an emergency and no-one on any number answering the phone? The room teas, coffees and milk, even shower gel etc was NOT stocked up during the stay with us having to call room service and ask for them to be filled. To be fair, on one of the days they did a floral decoration on the floor! Breakfast is chaotic! Queues to get in and room inadequate to deal with number of diners. Waiters felt completely overwhelmed by number of people and one really doesn’t get a special or personalized service! Breakfast felt mass produced, average quality ingredients and help yourself…completely underwhelming! We stayed at the Oberoi Mumbai, Hyatt, Leela and Raddison groups in other Locations and all their breakfasts were magnificent! Taj was underwhelming and outclassed by these other groups! They did have a Sitar player during the morning which was a very nice touch as one walks through hotel! One of the restaurants in the hotel, Souk, staff were rude and took an age to serve! We actually walked out of the restaurant mid service and were appalled with service. We enjoyed meals and drinks at the Golden Dragon, Loya, Wasabi and the Harbour Bar. Shamiana felt cheap and underwhelming and wouldn’t recommended. The hotel setting is outstanding and one cannot take away from grandiosity of the Taj Palace Mumbai ! It is not only mesmerizing but magnificent ! However, the place is inundated with tourists and the service is often soulless and underwhelming! The service does not match the setting and it feels like the Taj Palace Hotel is resting on its laurels! There are many other good hotel chains in India and based on this experience, I doubt we will use the Taj group again.. This seems to have become a tourist site and with so many visitors, it seems the staff can’t be bothered…as I stated earlier, with so many people in the hotel, how can they differentiate between hotel guest and day trippers! Our stay at Oberoi Mumbai was far superior and I will provide a contrasting review on why this was so..
