Consider yourselves in good company when you check into the Taj Mahal Palace. With its fantasyscape of Moorish, Oriental and Florentine styles, this architectural marvel has welcomed Maharajas, kings and presidents since opening in 1903. Along with panoramic views of the Arabian Sea and the Gateway of India, this spectacular Mumbai landmark boasts vaulted alabaster ceilings, onyx columns, hand-woven silk carpets and a magnificent art collection whose dazzling pieces range from Belgian chandeliers to Goan Christian artifacts.

I didn’t stay at the Taj Mahal Palace on this visit, but I did spend time at two of its restaurants (Sea Lounge and the Club Lounge) and both were worth visiting for the overall experience. That said, one aspect was genuinely disappointing...the coffee. At a hotel of this calibre, I expected a proper espresso experience, but the coffee is made using automatic machines. It noticeably lacks the quality and care you’d expect, and it feels out of place given the otherwise high standards. Having a trained barista or proper espresso setup would make a big difference.

The Taj Mahal Palace Hotel is simply the best, why stay anywhere else? Staff are friendly and attentive and nothing is overlooked by them. One day I was reading a book, next day I found a lovely Taj bookmark left beside the book. Fruit in your room, all essentials restocked everyday, all my cosmetics beautifully arranged and everything neatly tidied away. Food and drink service is exceptional in bar and restaurants - The Golden Dragon restaurant is particularly memorable. A window seat for breakfast so that I could look out at The Gateway of India and the Bay. Nothing is too much for The Taj staff. Outstanding service, warmth and hospitality. The building itself is beautiful, historic and fascinating too. Location in Colaba is perfect for exploring the Kala Ghoda area museums and art galleries and for visiting the Elephanta Caves. Given it's proximity to the Gateway of India and crowds that gather there, the inner facing rooms are surprisingly tranquil with the glazing cutting out the car horns. Extremely spacious and clean rooms, complete with marble bathrooms that have both a tub and separate shower.

Exceptional Heritage, Warmth, and Unforgettable Hospitality Rating: ★★★★★ Room: 354, 359 We recently had the absolute pleasure of staying at The Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai, to celebrate my father’s birthday, and it was an experience that surpassed every expectation. From the moment we stepped into the iconic lobby, we were treated with a level of warmth and care that truly defines Indian hospitality. Front Office Excellence The check-in and overall coordination were seamless, thanks to the incredible team at the front desk. A special mention must go to Front Office Managers Mr. Mayank and Rahul, along with Sapna. They went above and beyond to ensure our family felt welcomed and prioritized. Their attention to detail regarding my father’s birthday celebration made him feel like royalty; those personal touches are what set this property apart from any other luxury hotel. A Journey Through Time One of the absolute highlights of our stay was the heritage walk and property show-round. Mr. Newton Thomas D'souza, the resident historian, is a treasure trove of knowledge. His passion for the history of the Taj is infectious, and the way he narrates the stories of the hotel’s past—from its construction to the historical figures who walked its halls—is deeply moving. It added a layer of depth to our stay that we will never forget. Poolside Care Even during our downtime at the pool, the service didn’t falter. Yogesh, the Life Guard, was incredibly attentive and professional, ensuring a safe and relaxing environment for our family. His proactive approach and friendly demeanor were much appreciated. Final Verdict The Taj Mahal Palace isn't just a hotel; it’s a living monument. To the entire team—thank you for making my father’s birthday so incredibly special. If you are looking for a stay that combines historical grandeur with heartfelt, personalized service, this is the only place to be in Mumbai. We cannot wait to return!
