We recently stayed at the Bayerischer Hof and frankly, I don’t get the hype. The design choices throughout the hotel felt oddly cold and lifeless. The walls were painted a relentlessly depressing gray, from the bedroom to the bathroom to the hallways—no warmth, no contrast, just gray. The rooms had little to no artwork, which only amplified the bunker-like vibe. The hallway lighting was dim and moody, not in a chic way but more like something out of a minimalist correctional facility. And then there’s the bizarre lineup of couches in the hallways. For some reason, there are chairs and loveseats randomly parked along the corridors like it’s a fraternity house that couldn’t find storage. (See photo—this isn’t an exaggeration.) This may be a five-star hotel on paper, but in practice, it felt more like a design experiment gone wrong. We were hoping for Bavarian charm, or at least some warmth. Instead, we got a concrete-and-felt aesthetic with zero personality. * But, Michael the bartender in falk’s Bar was a true joy! * Disappointed overall.

Last weekend I returned to Munich with my son in order to have two fun days in our favorite German city! ;-) Since day 1 we book these trips to Munich it`s the Bayerische Hof we choose for our stay. Never been disappointed so far which is why we return to this gorgeous hotel time and again. Not only the interior, the service and beautiful Munich outside the window but also that incredibly nice staff we meet makes this place so special! We will definitively return which is what we did monthly since January this year. See you soon, happy place! <3 We will return in June!

The rooms are well equipped, the six concierges are most helpful, the restaurant food is excellent, and room service and laundry are tops. The location is the best in Munich, and cabs are always waiting. Few hotels meet these standards, especially in Europe and the USA

The hotel is very pleasant. It is well located in the old city. The hotel building is traditional however the room we had was refurbished. We chose a room over the front of the hotel as we like a view. However please note there is a tram that passes outside. The room was compact. The bathroom even more compact. Amenities were ok. What you would expect in a 5 star hotel. No full length mirror. Apparently the designer of the room doesn’t put them in the rooms. It was hot and the air con was noisy. We turned it off and opened the window. Small insect came in. On telephoning for assistance of a spray we were told sorry no! Conciege service was excellent. The reception lounge on the ground floor is soulless. The bar on the top floor is busy. Swimming pool ok for a city hotel. No real outside seating.

The restaurant on the top floor is really delicious and healthy, the terrace has great views and the gym and the swimming pool are great. The hotel rooms are hit and miss, it is meant to be 5-star throughout but the rooms at the top are stuffy, with dusty dirty carpet stuck on the wall and old beds with broken fabric. You have to look at it as a hotel from another era, a grand old dame.
