Reviews for The Michelangelo Hotel

Outstanding, Classical and Comfortable, Hotel Michelangelo

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

Now with two absolutely delightful stays at Hotel Michelangelo we will never look for another NYC hotel. Pick a category….comfort, ambience, service, cleanliness, food, lounge, location, all are five stars. Without exception the reception and bell staff were the most welcoming, kind and efficient we have ever experienced. The bellmen literally ran ahead of us to open doors! Our mini-suite had traditional and very comfortable furniture. Bottled water was provided free and the mini bar had nice choices at reasonable rates. The bed was very comfortable and bathroom amenities and towel quality all outstanding. Although we were on the third floor, we heard almost no sound at night. We are a married couple in our mid 70’s and appreciated the easy walk to the theater, (Cabaret is amazing), restaurants, Fifth Avenue, Broadway, etc. The neighborhood felt safe and was very clean. With all the modern architecture of this great city it was great to be in an historic, Spanish Renaissance structure that is soon to be 100 years old and has maintained a classic interior. And we enjoy that it has a storied past that years ago included entertainment by Xavier Cugat, Jimmy Dorsey, Glenn Miller and others. Some historical artifacts are on display in the lobby. Again, we definitely recommend and will be back!

Perfect Location

The hotel was in a perfect location close to the theatres, Central Park, Museums and the subway. Yet it was quiet. So many good places to eat close by and many fun Irish bars. The hotel was very clean and all the staff welcoming and helpful.

Fabulous Hotel in Theater District

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

The staff is extremely efficient-especially the doormen, front desk, and wait staff in the restaurant. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. The only complaint we had was with the television. It is not user friendly. It is very convenient to the theater district.

An old favorite gone downhill

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

Michelangelo used to be my favorite favorite hotel because of the elegance, the size of the rooms, and the staff. Well, the rooms are still large, they are in dire need of upkeep. Our carpet was spotted throughout our room, the lampshades were frayed and frazzled. One early evening, while my roommate and I were playing dominoes on the mezzanine, the front desk staff sent up the security guard to ask if we were guests. We had been there already for four nights. Then a side of passive aggressiveness at 11 o'clock. They shut off the lights on the mezzanine without asking us to leave , just forcing us to leave. The doorman are amazing! And the female bartender is warm and kind and helpful. Check-in I arrived early and was told my room was not ready. I went for a long walk and came back at 3:30. My room was still not ready. At 5 o'clock I asked again if my room was ready and he had to call to determine if it was. no one ever called me to tell me it was ready. I simply had to wait and wait and wait. Another thing, in our room, under the chairs was a mouse trap. I wasn't excited about that at all. Housekeeping probably gets an a minus. Room service is not so great, every evening we had to ask for wine glasses to be brought to our room. This hotel has definitely gone downhill. Another problem is that the neighborhood has also begun to go downhill with a lot of other neighborhoods in New York City. I will likely move to the Chelsea area for future stays to New York City.

This gem shines brightly in the heart of the Times Square/Broadway area. Reasonably priced rooms that are well maintined.
