Second visit better than the first!

Everything was great with the room and the Gold floor service. The doorman is funny and kind. The food was good and plentyful. The pool and area needs a good cleaning and to keep it warmer. We visited years ago and the pool area was lovely and warm as well as the pool water. Both cold this time.

Great stay

Lovely room with a view. Comfortable bed , need more pillows however. Service is excellent. Room service was efficient and well presented however the eggs benedict was disappointing; hollandaise was bland and too runny. The staff are professional and friendly.

Excellent stay in Fairmont - Ottawa

Best option in Ottawa. In a safe walkable location and close to everything. Zoe’s restaurant is awesome. The hotel has a lot of history and looks like a castle and an extension of the parliament. Do try the restaurant - food and drinks are really good. All the employees are excellent - valet, front desk, restaurant staff, concierge, etc.

Consider staying somewhere else!!

I will take a moment before I leave this hotel to tell you why you should NOT stay here. I don’t know if my room was representative of the others, but it was the smallest, stuffiest, least updated of any hotel room I’ve stayed in in a very long time ( and I stay in hotels not infrequently). There was a defect in the floor that would be easy to stumble over as it was covered over by the carpeting, but easily ( and surprisingly) palpated when you walk on it ( room 417- clearly not your best room- if anyone from the hotel reads this). Neither the heat nor the air conditioning worked. Neither did the lights on either bed side table. Wi-Fi was only available in part of the room and wouldn’t work in the small place where I wanted to sit. The mattress was so terribly ….. what’s the word…..”poor” that when I rolled over in the morning it created a pain in my upper back that still hasn’t resolved ( I’m am a healthy, active 55year old, so this isn’t normally a thing). And then there was the 3/4 inch piece of sharp metal I found and removed from the carpet near the bathroom door.....( i have pic) At check in there was a line of about eight or nine people with only one person working at the desk. This, despite the manager coming by two or three times and seeing what was going on, but he did not call for extra staff or consider standing there himself and helping. When I called about extending my check out by one hour, as instructed to do at check in, I couldn’t get through to the front desk. When I went downstairs because I couldn’t get through, there was another eight or nine people waiting in line with one person at the reception. When I finally went by again two hours later, they told me, of course I couldn’t have that extra hour. Not a problem, I can’t wait to get out of this building. If I’m being polite, this hotel is a tired old lady and you’d be much better off staying almost anywhere else in the downtown core.
