Relaxing stay as returning guests

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

This is our second time in Pangkor Laut Resort with first time being just a year ago. We enjoyed it so much that we have been looking forward to make it back here again. And glad to say we thoroughly enjoyed our second stay here. Room is clean and spacious with a nice bathtub. The resort also managed to keep the mosquitoes away from the rooms and activities area. We enjoyed the gym, pool, karaoke, tennis and definitely the beach. Food is also fantastic as always. Staffs are friendly and attentive. The scenery around the property is green and beautiful. We also tried the massage at the spa this time around and it was fantastic. We had such a relaxing and wonderful time staying here.

Beautiful Resort with warm hospitality

Paradise Found at Pangkor Laut Resort. It captivated us with its natural beauty, impeccable service, and luxurious accommodations. We stayed in a water bungalow villa, an iconic choice offering comfort and stunning views. The resort's centerpiece, Emerald Bay, boasts a pristine beach, a relaxing bar, and the beach club even have beautiful tennis courts where we spotted hornbill birds. The staff truly impressed us with their attentiveness. A special thanks to Mr Segar and his team, Ganesh and Ram from the F&B team for their warm hospitality! We indulged in various activities, from invigorating hikes and island runs to refreshing swims and exciting tennis matches. The spa was a haven of relaxation, and the Balinese massage is a must-try. We can't wait to return for another unforgettable experience. To be mentioned: Plastic issues in the sea. As many beach resorts in the world are facing this issues, we have seen great effort of the team at Pangkor Laut Resort cleaning the plastic around the island day and late afternoon. Unfortunately it is a match between nature and one island. Be aware of tides that bring In trash from all over the region. That said, the Water is prestine

Resort of 2 halves.

Being dropped at the check in on the mainland from where the tender takes you to the resort, at first it's a little bamboozling, so much information downloaded to us we were overwhelmed and probably forgot most. There is a resort map to photograph and no paper copies and resort information is via a weblink. Arriving at the island for the first time, is a sight for sore eyes, it looks like a tropical paradise. There's another mini check in process to collect your room key. The main facilities are located close to the jetty where you first arrived. Including the main restaurant for breakfast and dinner, this is a buffet style for each and can get chaotic at busy times. There is also a "straits bar" this is very small with 3 high tables in and 3 tables outside for couples. Hassan & Putu were the mixologists in charge of our care in the evenings, both were great at providing service with humour and friendliness and they do mix a decent cocktail. Also nearby is Uncle Lims Chinese inspired restaurant, we found this to be a bland disappointment, but it seemed popular with other guests. The beach club restaurant bar is the main eatery for lunch located close to the main pool and has a good all round selection. Quick mention of Sa Aung who consistently and professionally looked after us at the beach club. The Jamu bar at the spa village serves only a small selection of salads and the usual drinks and cocktails. If you do go to the spa village, look out for Mizan, he excelled at at providing service by being attentive and has a knack of preempting your needs, whether it is fresh towels, water or a cold beer, thanks. Chapman's bar on the other side of the island at Emerald beach has some lovely lunch dishes. Whilst we were there, Straits was the only place to get a drink after dinner as the beach club closed early. The main buffet restaurant is a definite crowd pleaser, providing a large and varied selection, that doesn't mean less quality. There were a couple of theme nights to mix things up a little, the street food market was a neat idea but sadly the weather spoilt the ambience and I felt disappointed for the staff that worked hard to put it together. Overall the resort is very nice it looks a little tired in places and some high traffic areas could certainly use some attention in cleaning and redecoration. In the hotel defence, on our last day we did see them painting at the Jamu bar. Here is the big issue I found at PLR, it serves mainly 2 groups, families and couples, for the most part family groups are large in numbers and are very noisy with children of about 3, 4 or 5 years. This sits juxtaposed to the other guests who are more mature and are seeking relaxation. At breakfast I witnessed glasses broken by children, food and mess left, more like animal feeding. Around the main pool or indeed at the beach it only takes a couple of screaming children to really shatter your blissful relaxation or to just dominate the pool space completely. The issue is lack of parental control and consideration for other people. We did the jungle trek with a guide but the group was so large and noisy, there was no realistic hope to see any animals. We had opted for a hill villa this was high up next to the Pavarotti suite. The hill villa is within a building of 4 villas, 2 up, 2 down. Without doubt go for an upper villa to get a better view across to Pangkor island. There is very little privacy between villa balconies, and obviously there is no noise buffer. The room is gorgeous great comfy bed and delicious air conditioning with ceiling fan, the bathroom was huge with double sinks, separate shower and an enormous bath which is oddly difficult to get into. There is an in room safe but we found too few plug sockets. Getting up down to resort facilities felt like a slog to be honest. We switched villas after 3 nights to the spa villas on stilts to provide an adults only experience. It is like a different resort, relaxed and tranquil and much more convivial for immersing yourself to unwind. The spa villa itself is a down grade on the hill villa, it's smaller, doesn't seem as well equipped and the bathroom is definitely less impressive. That said all the bits you need are there. Of course the villa is on stilts and your balcony hovers above the water which is very pleasant. Without doubt the biggest factor to make your trip memorable at PLR is the staff, I've mentioned some but a few others to mention are Devi the maitre'd at the main restaurant, Vija on food & beverage and of course Segar who seemed to be everywhere over seeing proceedings but still found time for a conversation. Of course there are hundreds of unmentioned stars, many behind the scenes, their lack of a mention here is a reflection on me not of their efforts or service. My views are penickity but for a hotel that advertises itself in the category of Small Luxury Hotels of the world, some improvement is required to maintain that status. I would return to PLR if I could secure access to the adult only area.

A truely luxurious island resort

A fantastic resort, total luxury. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the one we stayed in had a fantastic view of the bay. The food was exceptional and the service second to none. Everyone was so helpful and eager to make sure we had a fantastic holiday, which we did. Ramesh and his team do a brilliant job of providing and maintaining a top notch resort and seemless service. This is one of the best resorts we have stayed at.

A MEMORABLE HONEYMOON

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

We made the best decision ever to choose Pangkor Laut Resort for our Honeymoon! The hospitality we received on the day of our arrival was amazing. We were welcomed with refreshing iced popsicles, and Jeff at the reception counter briefed us on the layout of the resort. We stayed in a Sea Villa, and the view from the deck was absolutely breathtaking! The food served during breakfast, lunch, and dinner was just too good. The waiters and restaurant managers were attentive and ensured everything was perfect. My wife is a vegetarian, but she didn't have any trouble with the food. We would like to thank the people we met at the resort, including Ms. Vignes, Mr. Mogan, Mr. Ramesh, Mr. Magesh, Mr. Segar, Lila, and Ms. Laila. They went above and beyond to make our stay unforgettable! We are grateful to Pangkor Laut Resort for making our honeymoon a memorable one. We will be back in a couple of years' time!
