Hotel Needs A Thorough Clean, Stay Away

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

Perfect location near Place de la Concorde and shopping on Rue Saint-Honore. Pretty, though compact, rooms. Professional front desk staff. Friendly and attentive restaurant staff. Breakfast buffet w/ fresh squeezed orange and other juices, but unremarkable options for fresh fruit, cheese, pastries. The huge problem at Sofitel Le Faubourg is cleanliness or rather the lack thereof. Our bathroom — the shower, walls, sink, toilet, floor, and hair dryer — had not been properly cleaned in a very, very long time. This clearly was not a one off, isolated, housekeeping's having a bad day thing. We honestly dreaded taking a shower. There was a dirty ring and staining around the sink, and a pattern of aging stains in the shower. The toilet seat was broken and the bathroom floor soiled. In the room, the scuff marks were everywhere and all the doors were visibly dirty. And this was our second room -- we asked to be moved out of the first one because the shower rod was broken and the shower unclean (visible organic matter). Difficult to believe that this was bad luck with 2 separate luxury rooms, the hotel clearly has a housekeeping and maintenance problem. There were a few additional, lesser issues. The main lobby is beautiful, but the guest elevators and room floors look tired and in need of updating. There is a large, active construction site next door that is not mentioned on the hotel website or by the staff. We were also right above the Buddha-Bar Paris, a club that stays open very late. We live in NYC and city noises generally don’t bother us, but the construction and/or club noise woke us up every night. Also, the main hotel entrance is through Rue Boissy d’Anglas, which is ramped off and guarded (US Embassy?). You can drive through only if your name matches the guest list, which means that an Uber cannot pick you up at the hotel and you must meet them somewhere in the vicinity – rain or shine, luggage or not. Again, no mention of this on the hotel's website. Our 3 nights here were ruined and we certainly did not have the "extraordinary and luxurious experience" that Sofitel Le Faubourg advertises and charges for. A generous rating for this property would be 2* -- all else aside, cleanliness simply cannot be an issue at a luxury hotel.

Amazing stay highly recommend! Very safe, clean and helpful staff! Close to everything. Breakfast is AMAZING! Wish I had purchased the breakfast package. Staff was helpful and always available. Bed is comfortable, windows open to the street. Booked last minute and never happier for it.

Ordered breakfast for 9.00 am in the morning. It came after chasing at 9.40 am so we missed an exhibition we had booked. Phone in room didn’t connect to front desk or concierge. Had to chase for removal of dirty coffee cups and the provision of hand towels. Smug self satisfied staff. I was really disappointed given price point. Avoid.

Great hotel but avoid so called 'duplex' rooms.

Excellent hotel & location, less than a minute from La Place de Concord & Hotel de Crillion & the metro & with high designer shops all around, if that's your bag. Lovely staff & breakfast room/bar. Very luxurious facilities. The big problem is that the en suite room had a downstairs sofa and seating area which made it too onerous to go down & use & so I didn't. I was told it was like a 'Parisien duplex', as if that was a virtue, which is a joke - honestly! Other than that, great hotel.
