Reviews for Casa di Langa

Best hotel in Piedmont

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 7 months ago

In terms of quality of service and property, this hotel gets about 99 pct of what you’d find in an Aman property for about a fifth of the price. Allesandria in the front desk had the best restaurant recommendations and called around several restaurants at the last minute to find us an opening. The rest of the staff similarly went out of their way to make our stay more enjoyable. We also found the views to be as good as anywhere in Langhe, and the rooms were modern, spacious, and comfortable. If youre looking for a luxury stay in Langhe, this is your bet.

Great Location

We enjoyed our 4 night stay at this property. Pros: This might be the best located property in Roero/Langhe. What makes it so special are the beautiful views of Serralunga d' Alba in the distance and the beautiful green valley and vineyards in the forefront with no development obscuring the bucolic beauty. We also loved the views from a hilltop restaurant in La Morra but below us were many villages- also attractive but not as secluded and special as the Casa's location. The town of Alba was super unappealing and unattractive to us- I would steer clear of it. Cherasco had a dour beauty. Casa di Langa is very peaceful and quiet- a few animals can be heard in the distance at night and some roosters crowing in the morning. Night time lighting is also ideal and low as to not obscure the night sky. Sound insulation within the rooms is excellent. The room was slightly too warm for us: 72.4 F but by calling the front desk we were able to get an override on the thermostat- apparently remotely controlled. Very well staffed with pleasant and helpful concierges, parking valets, restaurant staff and twice daily maid service. Lobby and bar decor are very nice. Huge outdoor (partially covered) patio space just off the lobby with lots of comfortable seating. My husband really enjoyed his wine tasting class. The bath products and bed linens are very nice. Cons: despite getting a "deluxe" category room with excellent views, our room was simply too small- it was about the size of our last cruise ship cabin. I don't think we will return but if we did, I would carefully scrutinize photos of the suites to see if they are an improvement. The covered patio for our room was large and initially I wondered why it was so big and the room was so small but then I realized the afternoon sun is so intense that the architects must've factored that in to the design. On our patio were two basic upright chairs which need to be replaced with something more comfortable and relaxed. The mattress, although comfortable, was a bit low to the ground for oldsters like us. The bath area was also smallish. There was only one low slung comfortable chair in the room and an upright desk chair which scraped loudly on the brick floor. Breakfast was excellent and well staffed although the outdoor tables, when weather is perfect, should be set and ready for guests who all want to go outside instead of trying to steer them to the inside. Our room was located above the restaurant and people dining outside in the morning were not an issue for us at all - even when we were outside on our patio. Faula restaurant- I'm sure the chef is talented and I would like to eat what he makes for himself or his family on his days off. We generally dislike Michelin type starred restaurants and found this one typically off putting. Too experimental- simpler is often better. Why the gimmick of presenting a few rice crackers on top of a bowl of rocks? What's the point? If you decide to stay here and have a car- don't despair. There are some excellent restaurants nearby: In the hills above Roddino is one of the best restaurants we've ever eaten at with a young Korean chef at the helm. We also loved a local rabbit restaurant in Albaretto della Torre for tasty food and local color. We also had a wonderful lunch in La Morra and I overheard some other guests rave about a meal they had somewhere nearby. We did have an awful dinner in Serravalle Langhe at a well rated trattoria. The pool: this was another disappointment. We came from a glorious hotel in Alassio with a fab pool so the contrast was especially jarring. It's too bad the pool wasn't designed to be larger with a bigger deep water area. The kids working at the pool cafe bar played bad music and the pool bar counter area is unattractive and unappealing. This area could've been so much nicer and better. Overall, we enjoyed Roero/Langhe- although not quite as beautiful as Tuscany (in my opinion), it was nice being in a much less crowded and busy area with fewer tourists.

Beautiful Piedmont hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 8 months ago

The hotel is in a beautiful isolated location on a hill facing the Piedmont hills and the alps in the distance. It is close to barolo, Alba, etc. It is a fairly new property - modern and very well-equipped. The infinity swimming pool has a great view over the valley. The rooms are large and comfortable, with large terraces. If you can, get a room looking toward the alps. The restaurant is very good for lunch and dinner, and the breakfast is extensive. Unfortunately the spa is very small so you need to make a reservation for a time slot. There is only a sauna, a hot tub and a small relaxation room - odd for this type of resort. The service is excellent.

Great stay!!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 8 months ago

Casa di Langa was a lovely place to spend a few days. Though it's a bit difficult to locate, it's gorgeous and secluded in the best way. Definitely do the truffle hunting and eat in the restaurant! The food was amazing, and to learn about and see the truffles (and the dogs who find them) was awesome.

Stunning views, modern rooms and perfect service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 9 months ago

I almost don't want to write this review because I don't want to spoil the secret. CASA DI LANGA is absolutely stunning and is a hidden little gem in the middle of a beautiful (and under rated) area in Italy. We were two couples and stayed for a couple of nights. We left wishing we had more time at the hotel. The service was perfect - the bartenders, wait staff, wine experts and front desk were all very attentive. The views were unbelievable. I really didn't believe it was going to be that pretty and it was! The food at the restaurant was good and the amenities were too. The reason I don't want to spoil the secret is the rooms were impeccable. They were modern, clean with big bathrooms. We were on a three week trip across the country and this was my favorite place we stayed. The value for what we paid was great. I would love to return some day!
