Reviews for The Riviera Maya EDITION at Kanai
Beautiful Hotel, Spa and Facilities. No beach swimming.
The hotel was an architectural wonder. We stayed 5 nights. My husband and I spent the afternoon in the heavenly spa pools and had the best message of our lives. Its a long walk to the beach but worth it. The adult pool and bar, adjacent to the beach, had a nice ocean view, good food offerings and entertaining people watching. Beach chairs were very available. No need to get up early to claim your spot on the beach at any time of the day. I appreciated the beautiful hotel and nice room. I'm writing this review because I could not find a review saying that the ocean was not swimmable and I chose this hotel because I wanted to swim in the calm waters of the Mexican Riviera. I was very disappointed. The staff was out every morning "cleaning" the water of sea grass/sea weed every day but it was not enough. They also have a large dock, which they charge extra ($150) to go on, running parallel to most the length of the beach limiting access to the ocean. We are die hard snorkelers, hoping to get int the ocean, we took a short snorkel trip with the vendor who works out of a shack on the beach (not the hotel staff). The snorkel was hugely disappointing. We expected to amazing sea see life, like the pictures at the beach shack. No, we saw a couple fish and two squid (cuddle fish). The reef was sun bleached and dead. As soon as we got into the water I found out my mask and my snorkel leaked. The tour guide did not have an extra one to offer me on their boat. They didn't offer me another trip out with new equipment but, they did ask for a great review and tip when we returned to the beach. They put my leaking snorkel and mask back into the cleaning bucket to reuse on the next tourist.

A wonderful trip to the Riviera Maya
My husband and I brought our family, including 3 young grandchildren to The Edition last week for what turned out to be the best vacation we have all taken together. The resort is spectacular. Rarely is a place as pretty as the pictures on their website, this one is. The staff was extraordinary; helpful and thoughtful. Always friendly but also professional. We usually spent half the day at the beach and the other half at the pool. We never had trouble finding chaises and the minute we arrived the staff came with towels and coolers of bottled water. We often ate lunch at the Beach Club, which was our favorite restaurant on the property. They served a half roast fish with tortillas, guacamole and pickled vegetables which was outstanding. The rest of the menu was sort of country-club like, lots of great choices and all of it delicious. If I have one small quibble, it would be the restaurants where we ate dinner. We tried a different one each night at both The Edition and the St. Regis next door. They were all fine, but perhaps tried too hard to be creative. I suppose we were hoping for more straight forward Mexican fare. But besides that, a perfect vacation and a resort that I am sure we will return to again.

Loved our stay at the Edition. We were there for a wedding with a bunch of friends and the staff was phenomenal. Would definitely come back!
