The charming village of Portovenere, which sits on the point connecting the renowned Cinque Terre and the inspiring Gulf of the Poets, is the perfect place to experience the serenity of Southern Liguria. The village has been noteworthy since Roman times as it has provided protection for the gulf and acted as a safe harbor to those sailing the Mediterranean A Franciscan monastery in the XVI century, Grand Hotel Portovenere is located on the most panoramic point of Portovenere, directly overlooking the sea and the island of Palmaria.

This was the best hotel in our opinion in Cinque Terre! We also had the best room - it was a splurge and worth it as our room overlooked the town of Portovenere and the harbor area. We ate breakfast in the morning the three days we were there and the staff was professional and helpful. Our room was nicely appointed and comfortable. If we are to go back to Cinque Terre - I would want to stay at Grand Hotel Portovenere.

Everything about this experience was wonderful from the initial greeting to the checkout. The restaurant was fab with such warm service. The location was perfect right off the main square and we were happy to stay there and boat to the other Cinque Terre locations. The front desk warmly and with initiative met every conceivable need and our room was perfect. I would love staying here again.

What a wonderful hotel and its seafront location just perfect for touring all the main attractions. In addition to Cinque Terre we loved visiting the Gulf of Poets, unexpectedly beautiful and full of charm and history. The hotel staff are so friendly and helpful, from reception to kitchen staff, waiters, to room service and housekeeping staff. The on-site restaurant has a wonderful selection of delicious dishes, and the breakfast is also superb. We really enjoyed our stay here and we plan to return in 2024!

This hotel has the best location in Porto Venere and gives the most fabulous view from its terrace where we ate breakfast each morning. The breakfast choice was excellent and the staff were attentive and very friendly. Having said all that I don’t think it deserves its 5 star status. The room we stayed in certainly didn’t feel very luxurious and the common areas had nothing special about them. If you’re going to charge top dollar prices you’ve got to make it really special.

My family had a fantastic time while staying at Grand Hotel Portovenere and much of that was, we felt, because of the wonderful, helpful and generous staff of the hotel. From helping us with arranging beach time (and everything we needed for that) to transport, to giving us helpful tips about exploring the area, being responsive to correspondence, and everyone was nice to our children especially. The restaurant and everyone there made sure we were well-fed too! My family felt it was a perfect place in a great town, away from the crowds in Cinque Terre ( though accessible when we wanted) and a great destination with everything we wanted to do in its own right. We would certainly return.
