Tierra Patagonia Hotel & Spa sits on a bluff where the South American pampa meets Lake Sarmiento. The building is immersed in the landscape and emerges from the hillside. The award winning architecture complements the flow of the geology in this privileged location and showcases the magnificent views of the Torres del Paine National Park, declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 1978.

Sadly, Tierra has been purchased by a new company, and the service and standards of the hotel have noticeably diminished. Large groups should be expected on hikes as they now want to maximize the amount of guests on excursions . We were also surprised by the extremely long drives as the hotel doesn’t enjoy some of the closer proximity as others in the same region (such as Explora). The jacuzzi didn’t work the entire time which was unfortunate, we were given a litany of reasons why but the story changed each time we asked. Furthermore, the hotel has 80+ guests and only 7 total chairs poolside. The food was also a category that was severely underwhelming - beware that if you head out on a long hike, some of the food options might have sold out by the time you return and massage appointments are often missed. Furthermore breakfast is extremely limited as well as the bagged lunches on the hikes. Sadly, the hotel had us stranded in the rain for 2.5 hours as they rely on a public ferry to get us back to the 2 hour drive home needed. Other hotels have their own private boats so as to never be stuck in this situation. By then it was pitch dark and dinner at 10pm over logistics that could have been planned better. Overall, the guides were excellent and often work freelance throughout the region, but the hotel, itself, seemed worn out - broken items in the room and a management that seemed intent on herding guests into a cruise like experience rather than an exclusive one in such a beautiful place, and for such a big price.

We have stayed at Tierra 2x before in Atacama so knew what to expect in Patagonia and were not disappointed From a beautifully-designed lodge, to very comfortable rooms, each with outstanding views, great food, drinks, service and spa, we had no complaints. But, to us, these are the support for the main reason to go to Tierra Patagonia which is to partake in incredible activities with professional guides. Over 6 days we hiked an average of 10 miles a day and saw wonderful, one of a kind, landmarks from glaciers, to mountains to the rock towers. The activities are organized perfectly and you can choose full day or half day trips. You cannot find a better place as a base, nor a turnkey setup for hiking the area.

What a great place, great service and the best tours in town. I stayed here 6 days and all off those days a really loved them. The hikes, the horse riding and the biking trips were sublime. Just lying in bed a watch out side the window is great. Evere lunch and every dinner is a little bit of a party. What a great food the service and I heard that all the food is locally produced in chili.

From the moment you enter the property and see the stunning view, until the moment you leave, it maintains that level of excellence. The staff are super motivated and very helpful. Yiu just need to throw yourself n to the experience and yiu will be richly rewarded.

Impeccable service, all rooms have great views of the Towers, Manager Nicholas is absolute perfection. The guides (Michelle!) are great and take good care of everyone. They have very clean, luxurious vans to shuttle you to the hikes and they pack food and drink for a snack afterwards. Their wait staff are very quick and professional and fun. The bartenders made good drinks. The spa and yoga teacher were so addictive I had to go every day. It’s fun to watch the animals graze in front of the hotel and there is a nice walk down to the lake. We felt pampered and could not think of one thing they could improve.
