Treat yourself! A fantastic solo experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

One of the most magical & unique places to stay. And I did it on my own! It’s in the jungle and on the beach. The “rooms” are free standing Treehouses & various sized Villas so you never see or hear anyone. Total peace & privacy. There are so many fun things to do so plan ahead as some are seasonal. Be sure to utilize your host/butler. They are the key to a next level experience. They truly are so eager to ensure you are happy & have all you need.Sinuhe & Rodolfo took great care of me. I felt safe, comfortable & I had a blast! Reservations ahead of time were exceptional. As a solo traveler Gretel planned a whole itinerary of things for me to do & I had everything I needed, and then some, waiting for me in my Treehouse. I had a panoramic ocean view room. Overlooking the entire ocean & coastline. Stunning! Some fun things for me were the Winemakers dinner in Villa 1. An outstanding 5 course dinner served by Sous Chef Sandra & her staff. I even made new friends from my hometown. A horseback riding lesson with the wonderful Manny on the Polo Field & trail ride on the beach. The Polo match & BBQ are a highlight, I got to throw out the first ball! Cooking classes, Tequila tastings. And of course swimming & lounging at the beach enjoying the best Ceviche ever. The infinity pools hanging over the ocean are so beautiful. The food different & excellent at each one. There’s also an insane spa in the jungle. The way they incorporated this indoor outdoor spa into the jungle is a true feat. I took yoga classes, worked out in the state of the art gym & the steam & sauna all complementary. There’s a pool there too. Very peaceful. Again, the point of the property. Healthy mind & body. The rooms are so well appointed & all have pools or spas of their own so you may not want to leave. In room dining is really good, served on your patio overlooking the ocean. The best! All the food I had was great. The included breakfast is gourmet, off the menu, as well as buffet. A great bonus in the pricing. The Resort is beyond nice, one of the most unique experiences you will ever have. But the service, and staff make you feel like it is your home. Consider a solo retreat at this property. It’s great! My husband & I have enjoyed time here together as well. I came solo on a Mother’s Day gift from my family. This is my first review, but my 5th stay. That should say it all!

Stunning, unique resort with a lot of privacy

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Hard to imagine a more beautiful location, stunning resort design, and better amenities. Both my friend and I were overwhelmed at times by its beauty. I have never wanted to only stay at a resort and was happily pampered for 4 nights here. Some good things to know: - Each of the houses and villas are impeccably laid out with a lot of privacy though you will need to call a golf cart to get around on this expansive property. (Or be prepared for some long hilly walks.) We went during early May, the tail end of the busy season, and never had to wait longer than a few minutes for one. It also helps to notify the hotel when you want one in advance. - There are 4 restaurants and the menus don't change much. It is hard to leave the resort because it is quite isolated so you will probably eat at these exclusively during your time at the O&O. We found the food to be uniformly very good to excellent, especially at Carao. - Staff were very kind and helpful throughout. They are very attentive to food allergies or preferences regarding housekeeping. We didn't have any unusual requests but they always made a point of asking and quickly learning what you like. - We were there for a milestone birthday and the resort really went above and beyond to acknowledge this. We are so grateful and had a truly amazing time. We are both converts to this brand now! The one confusing thing...when you book there is a percentage-based service charge automatically added which, because the hotel is expensive, ends up being quite hefty. There are also opportunities to tip throughout your stay. Of course all of the staff and employees deserve a fair and living wage and should be rewarded for their hard work running the resort. But we didn't know what this service charge covered. As a result we aren't sure if we tipped too much or too little. My suggestion would be to make the expectations clearer for guests. Thanks again to everyone at the O&O Mandarina. It is a truly magical place.

Our host, Alfredo, was amazing!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

I’ve never written a review for any of our prior vacations; however, One & Only Mandarina has set itself apart. First and foremost, our host, Alfredo, made our vacation incredible. We went for our babymoon, and he was always one step ahead of our needs and constantly surprising us with the most thoughtful gestures (pregnancy pillow, special treats for mama-to-be’s cravings, and baby gifts for the baby on her way… just to name a few). The resort was gorgeous, albeit expansive (requiring golf cart rides everywhere on the property). The treehouse was spacious and beautiful. The views were gorgeous. The meals at the restaurants were delicious. Everything was perfect!

A romantic bird-watcher’s paradise

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

The most amazing trip! We will remember it forever. Perfect for couples who love wildlife and being in nature. You can bird-watch from your villa! Extremely luxurious and excellent food at all the restaurants. Friendly and accommodating staff. Worth every penny and then some. Ask about visiting the butterfly sanctuary!

The design is phenomenal, everything else not so much.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

The design is phenomenal, everything else not so much. To other successful people of color and distinguished allies, our money is not respected here, unfortunately this is not a vibe. As an African American male who has been traveling across Mexico at five star hotels for the past 15 years, this is the One & Only time I was racially profiled and discriminated against (outside of the U.S.A). Reflecting upon my stay, I have these questions for any future guests and the hotel’s management team: 1.How can your food not have any flavor from Jetty Beach Club and you run out of food (Amarillito Mole) which is your main entree at Carao, should we speak about the burnt taco? 2.How can your cocktails not be elevated? Please invest in recreating your cocktail menu, the drinks at local bars. 3.How can your adult pool not have any space for adults? I was literally turned away because you didn’t have any more space/seats as it can hold about 15 people? Are you serious? Over 100 rooms with a 15 people capacity pool. 4.How can it take you an hour to get a room ready after I arrived past the check-in window? 5.How can you demand ID before letting me drive into the gate/compound, then demand my hotel confirmation number, then have me escorted to the reception area because you couldn’t find me in your system at the gate? 6.How can your supervisor, Gabriela disappear when I explained my racist profile/discriminatory check-in process? 7.How can I request a manager to address my concerns and have no one reach out to me while I’m at the property? 8.How can my exit survey link expire two hours after it was sent before I was able to open it to provide the General Manager, Nicolas Cejas with my thoughts?
