Gorgeous spot in Old Town

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Lovely boutique hotel in the heart of the Old City of Quito. Large rooms and extremely clean. Enormous bathrooms and gorgeous grounds. Our room was a Garden View suite that looked out to a lovely garden area. The staff is Marvelous. Be sure to go to the roof restaurant for Tapas and cocktails!

Gorgeous hotel slightly let down by the food

It’s a beautiful hotel right on the main square so very easy for visiting the historic area. The staff are all so nice and helpful. The ladies at the reception helped with dinner reservations, the doormen with umbrellas and a lovely greeting. The bar staff were exceptional, friendly and a delight to talk too. The dining room is lovely and the breakfasts were nice. We had dinner one evening and again lovely staff. The food was fine but all very rich / too rich … it would’ve been much better if there was say a couple of things on the menu which were just a little simpler like a steak and or a grilled fish dish without all the added twists…. When you’re travelling around a country eating lots of local food as a tourist sometimes when you’re eating at your hotel you just want a break from lots of rich flavours or at least the option is there. The only other dining option there is in the terrace - tapas and not lots of choice plus when it’s raining the covering up there isn’t adequate. The room was lovely, really good size and beautifully decorated as was the bathroom, plenty of water, hangers, plush towels and so on.. we enjoyed our three days there. If the food options had been a little wider I’d have given a 5.

Great service and location

A wonderful experience from the moment we arrived. We were lucky to have a room facing out onto the attractive interior patio. The room and ensuite bathroom were beautifully finished with a luxurious feel to them. Still and fizzy water was available but there was no milk or creamer for the coffee and no black tea. I'm sure that this would have been made available if we had asked as we felt that nothing was too much trouble. The meals here were superb and we tried breakfast, lunch and dinner, thoroughly enjoying all of them. We were so sad that we couldn't enjoy breakfast on the second day due to an early departure. They did provide a packed breakfast but this did not meet the high standards we had come to expect. There was one sandwich on dry white bread and we had not been given any choice of bread. We would love to stay there again.

Central and comfortable

We stayed at Casa Gagotena for a night prior to our Galapagos tour. The hotel is in a perfect location for a city tour. It is very secure with security on site 24/7 and they lock the front doors at night (not that the area is dangerous, it felt very safe but safety is always good!). The hotel is a very pretty, historic mansion. The courtyard is a great place to grab a drink or lunch and the restaurant was delicious for both breakfast and lunch. The staff was very nice. Despite all that was going on in Ecuador a month ago, it felt very safe.

Luxurious hotel with great food

This hotel was, alongside Palacio Duhau in Buenos Aires, the most beautiful city property we stayed at in South America. Gorgeous flowers all over the sculpted staircases and lobbies. The restaurant offers an impressive tasting menu (reviewed separately) and they set up a little table for us in the bar to sample it given that the restaurant was full at the time we wandered down from our room. Breakfast is similarly impressive. We weren’t at the hotel for very long so cannot comment on most of the facilities but the rooms were luxurious and well appointed and the staff were friendly, I am sure this is the best hotel in Quito and would definitely recommend it.
