Reviews for The Rockaway Hotel

Very OK

Love the design but rooms have no closets or workspace. Very small footprint for the cost. There’s also no sound insulation. You hear everything going on in the hallway. Restaurant was super cute but the food was mediocre for the prices. Overall a great stay but could use more attention to detail.

Always a pleasure with something new happening at the hotel

Elena and the concierge staff were very welcoming and enthusiastic when I went to let them know about my sailing charter business in the neighborhood. I then popped around the corner into the wonderfully curated Supply Shop within the hotel. Perhaps my favorite store in all of Rockaway, they stock unique wares of many local artisans and its the best place to get a gift anytime of year. Meredith, who works at the shop is is a always a pleasure to talk to and a great resource for everything Rockaway related. In the off season, the rooftop heated pool and saunas are my absolute go to for a relaxing day with friends.

Haughty Malibu attitude counters the Zen vibe to leave a bad taste

Planned to stay close to JFK because I was flying to Europe and picked this hotel because I thought it would be a relaxing, California beach vibe nest in Rockaway Queens. Well, the hotel is aesthetically amazing and the rooms were terrific, but can’t say anything nice about the restaurant staff. They were rude to me when I came in to grab a drink and something to eat at the bar. After 30 minutes feeling shunned, I left and walked down the street to grab a taco. I would have loved finding a secret hotel with a cool, Bohemia energy close to the airport but a big no to this place. What a shame because I really wanted to like this place as an option to Manhattan since I’m in New York two weeks a month

Cute but not perfect

We spent two nights on a winter weekend here - I've had my eyes on this hotel for a while and wanted to check it out, and was delighted when I saw they set themselves up as a winter wellness place. On the pleasant side: staff was very friendly and helpful, we had a warm reception with a glass of bubbly and immediately got into our room. The view from the 4th floor was lovely - we saw the beach and ocean and the sun would come in in the morning. The bathroom was spacious with nice cosmetics and equipped with everything needed. The decor in the room and the lobby / overall hotel is really tasteful and cosy. There's a fire place in the lobby and everything has a light and warm feel, and nothing feels cheap. We really liked the Margie's restaurant both for dinner and brunch which had a lot of atmosphere compared to the rooftop bar (which also had an attractive pizza offer on Friday night). Coffee and tea is complimentary until 12pm in the coffee bar which also offers some breakfast on the go items and the beach is only two blocks away. The hotel offers bikes as well - a nice feature but we didn't use them because the wind was too strong. We also went to the spa which we liked - the signature massage was a bit rough but definitely worked through all tense areas in my body and the facial was very relaxing and expertly done. The spa has a very calm and relaxing atmosphere with an infrared sauna (unfortunately it wasn't very hot), they also served me a delicious tea in the lounge which was lovely. And we went to two yoga lessons which we liked a lot. They also offer a parking lot just two blocks away. On the not so pleasant side: The idea of the winter wellness area was better than the reality. The lounge area around the pool looks cosy but feels quite cold so we didn't find it inviting enough to spend a lot of time there. The water in the pool is heated but just so that you don't feel too cold - it's not a hot tub kind of a feeling. The two sauna pods are cute but they never really heat up and the floors were flooded in both. That was a shame since I had been looking forward to the sauna in particular but it's not surprising since the ovens are small and the saunas aren't insulated, so the heat dissipates quickly. Our room was tiny - with no hanger, closet or dresser at all. For two people, there wasn't much room at all to move around and the only place to sit and relax was on the bed. The mattress was too soft for my taste (you really sink into it) and the pillows too thick and it was hard to get to the far side of the bed - you basically had to squeeze along between the bed and the window (it helps to be slim). But it was cosy to watch movies and you can log into your streaming service account (Netflix etc.). We couldn't get out of the parking lot with the validated ticket twice but thankfully they can open that remotely if you call the front desk. Oh, and we had very noisy neighbors who had a loud conversation on their balcony between 2-4am which was a downer. But overall, we enjoyed our stay and had a relaxing time here and it's definitely a very cute and stylish place.

Pros: - Hotel is beautifully decorated - Offers sauna, heated pool, gym and spa services - good service; * front desk (was nice and upgraded to balcony room) * restaurant staff (ate every meal during stay from Margie's * received great help from porter Punesh getting settled my first night and again to help load my things when leaving (did not get the employees name) -good cafe on premises -offered late checkout at 3pm for additional $75 charge Cons: - Paid more than $600 for two nights - No in room amenities *No mini fridge *No microwaves *No coffee machines - No complimentary breafast offers besides a free 12oz coffee or tea from the on premise cafe. - the details of clean missing *baseboard and under beds *hallways leading to rooms un vacuumed - mold found in shower and on refillable bottles. -Small rooms are really small. Had a room with 2 queen sized beds. Not a single spot for a single suitcase let alone for 3 international travel size set. No closets.
