Anantara Palazzo Naiadi Rome Hotel

The hotel is beautiful but most impressive was the staff who were incedibly helpful and gracious

Behind the magnificent facade and literally located at the Repubblica Metro Station which allows quick trips within traffic- and pedestrian-congested central Rome, Anantara Rome is a supremely unimpressive >1K-a-night hotel. It is a complete letdown to its Asian sister properties, and merely a rebranding of a tired old building previously known by another name. First impressions: the lobby is an unimpressive narrow strip with a large, tacky gold mesh covering what I assume is an ugly wall. The bar is completely overpriced and in an un-intimate hollow space decorated in a mix of neoclassical, art deco, and contemporary, pumped with scent. The cocktail I had was very good, however. The rooms are weird with a poofy crocodile (faux, I assumed) headboard, kitschy TV stands which are literally fashioned in the image of giant antiquarian books (are we in Lilliput?), stained carpet, dated bathrooms with marble and tub stains that cannot be scrubbed away, and outdated technology. The room we received (thank goodness I didn’t pay rack rate!) was next to some kind of garbage dump or bus stand with constant noise of trucks and buses, honking cars, perhaps commensurate with the rate—which in no world was cheap, in full disclosure. I felt I was being punished for my insolence of choosing one of their lower rates. When I brought the noise issue to Guest Services, I was offered a very basic room in some obscure corner that looked like an afterthought. I refused to move and the gruff man who showed it to me basically shrugged and walked off. Needless to say, sleep was fleeting. Breakfast is nice (a little heavy for my likes), generous in options, and the restaurant manager Elisa especially was delightful and made us feel at home. The remainder of the hotel is reminiscent of a fraying historic hotel last properly updated in the 1980’s. It lacks elegance, chic, coolness, or any other attribute of desirability besides its great location. It is most certainly not a “Palazzo” unless the vibe they are aiming for is “decrepit”. Fortunately, at this price point, there are a multitude of brand-named and boutique options in Rome. I most certainly have soured on the Anantara brand despite my prior stays in their other properties. I must acknowledge the highly competent and courteous Concierge desk and the lovely folks at the Reception. Their excellence is unfortunately undermined by the rest of the hotel experience. If one does not want to stay and enjoy the hotel, or be able to get peaceful sleep, what is the reason to choose Anantara?

I've stayed at the Anantara Palazzo Naiadi three times - the first time was pre-COVID, when it was a Marriott property. I had noticed the hotel on previous visits to Rome, and had even enjoyed coffee and cocktails there on a few occasions, but this was the first time I had stayed, and I absolutely loved everything about it! I loved it even more on subsequent stays as I got to enjoy the full experience. The hotel is stunning, including the rooms, with views of the historic surroundings and the Piazza Repubblica, the restaurants, bar, and lobby area - an authentic but modern space in the heart of the city. The breakfast buffet was the best I've had, and the cocktails, especially those prepared by Mirco, were incredibly delicious, beautiful and seductive! The service here is truly outstanding! A heartfelt thanks to all the exceptional staff members who have made my stays so memorable, and keep drawing me back to this hotel - most of all Gemma, Marco, Mirco and Sylvie. I never want to leave!

We had a fantastic experience at the ANANTARA PALAZZO NAIADI in January 2026 as part of our Viking trip to Rome and other destinations. The staff was attentive, the room was beautiful, the breakfast restaurant was simply amazing with multiple offerings, both buffet style and cooked to order. Couldn't have asked for a better time!
