Reviews for The St. Regis Rome

Refined Luxury with a Truly Personal Touch

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

Another great stay at the St Regis in Rome. The staff are warm and helpful and made my stay feel like home. I appreciate the exceptional standard and luxury for which the St Regis is synonymous with, but what truly distinguishes this property is its people. From the moment of arrival, the staff radiate warmth and professionalism. It started when the bellboy /doorman welcoming me by name (which he confessed he read on my luggage tag) was a very nice touch. Each interaction felt thoughtful and personal creating refined and sincerely hospitable service. The warm and friendly dining service staff was perfect blend of attentive without ever being intrusive. Chiara and Daniel at checkout were wonderful in ensuring that my stay ended on the same high note it started. For me, The St. Regis Roma is not just a beautiful place to stay, it is also a place where exceptional service and warm, human connections elevate the entire experience to be deeply memorable.

The St. Regis Rome A Living Legend of Ultra-Luxury Hospitality

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

The St. Regis Rome – Astor Suite A Living Legend of Modern Luxury Hospitality Staying at The St. Regis Rome is not simply a stay at a luxury hotel. It is an experience that brings you directly to the true origin of the modern luxury hotel. We personally regard this property as one of the world’s true legendary hotels, distinguished not only by its historical significance, but also by a level of service that is genuinely world-class and timeless in its execution. The hotel first opened in 1894 under the name Le Grand Hotel, Rome, and was considered one of the most technologically advanced hotels in Europe at the time. One of the primary reasons we chose to stay here is its direct connection to César Ritz, the man famously known as “The King of Hoteliers and the Hotelier to Kings,” and the individual who laid the very foundations of global luxury hospitality. Before founding Ritz Paris (1898) and Ritz London (1906), Le Grand Hotel, Rome was one of César Ritz’s most important early projects, effectively serving as a prototype for the luxury hotel concept that the world would later follow. The Beginning of Modernity in Rome From the very first day it opened, this hotel was far ahead of its era. It was among the first hotels in Rome to be fully electrified, one of the earliest to feature operational elevators, and most importantly, every guestroom had a private bathroom, a radical concept in the late 19th century. The lobby floors are clad in Carrara marble, one of the world’s most iconic and historically significant marbles, famously used by Michelangelo to sculpt masterpieces such as David. Further reinforcing the hotel’s pioneering spirit, The St. Regis Rome still preserves one of Rome’s earliest elevator systems, originally powered by a hydraulic pump drawing water from the nearby Moses Fountain (Fontana dell’Acqua Felice), a monumental fountain constructed in the 16th century. At the time, this structure was known as the “Rising Room,” representing a remarkable technological innovation for its era. While the system has since been carefully modernized to meet contemporary safety and performance standards, the original structure has been meticulously preserved, allowing the elevator to remain fully operational today. It stands as a rare, living testament to the hotel’s role at the forefront of modern hospitality and engineering in Rome. All of this reflects César Ritz’s vision luxury is not merely about grandeur, but about comfort, technology, and intuitive service that anticipates guests’ needs before they are ever voiced. Butler Service & Signature Services The St. Regis Butler Service here represents one of the gold standards in Europe. The service extends far beyond tea, coffee, or chocolate, and includes fresh juices and a variety of snacks, continuously served throughout the day with attentive care. The pressing service was completed within one hour, whereas in many hotels, even luxury ones, delayed requests often require waiting until the next day. On a personal note, I would rank this property as offering one of the finest, most refined, and truly luxurious Butler Service experiences within the St. Regis brand worldwide. Note: Butler Service is included only in specific rate plans or packages that explicitly state it. Complimentary Limo Service – Rare & Exceptional One of the most outstanding services here is the Complimentary Limo Service (one-way / drop-off). This service is provided to all guests, with no limitation on room category, and no restriction on the number of times used, subject to availability on a first-come, first-served basis. The vehicles are private Mercedes-Benz cars. This level of service is genuinely unexpected. From our past experiences, many luxury hotels offer limousine service only under specific conditions. For example, at several Ritz-Carlton properties, limo service is typically provided only to Executive Club rooms. Even Aman Bangkok offers this service only once per stay. At The St. Regis Rome, however, this service is extended to all guests as part of the standard experience, which is exceptionally rare. Astor Suite & Amenities Our Astor Suite with Butler Service offers a direct view of Piazza della Repubblica, located directly in front of the hotel. One detail that clearly reflects true, uncompromised luxury is the use of Acqua di Parma Blu Mediterraneo bathroom amenities presented in individual single-use bottles, rather than shared dispenser-style amenities. In recent years, many hotels, including those positioned within the Ultra-Luxury segment, have transitioned almost entirely to dispenser systems. This shift is often communicated under the narrative of sustainability, particularly the reduction of single-use plastics, which is a direction that is understandable and, in principle, commendable. However, in practice, sustainability initiatives within the hospitality industry are frequently intertwined with cost optimization. Dispenser systems significantly reduce packaging costs, logistics complexity, inventory handling, and labor associated with replenishing individual amenities. While this approach may align with operational efficiency, it can also dilute the sense of exclusivity and tactile indulgence that many guests associate with true luxury. The decision by The St. Regis Rome to continue offering individual, single-use luxury amenities therefore speaks volumes about its philosophy. It reflects a conscious choice to prioritize guest experience, hygiene, and sensory refinement, even as many hotels adopt more standardized solutions under the sustainability narrative. This distinction highlights the difference between luxury explained through justification and luxury upheld through deliberate investment in guest perception and experience. The St. Regis Rome remains firmly committed to the latter. We strongly prefer single-use bathroom amenities as they deliver a far clearer sense of both luxury and hygiene. While dispenser-style amenities are often accompanied by various cleanliness and safety measures such as bottles that require special tools to open, security stickers or tape seals indicating prior use, or freestanding dispensers designed to appear controlled these measures, in practice, are not always foolproof. Based on our extensive experience staying across multiple luxury and ultra-luxury hotel brands, dispenser systems, regardless of their design, inherently carry a degree of hygiene risk. For example, bottles that are meant to be opened only with special tools can, in reality, be accessed through alternative methods. In some cases, when the proper tools are unavailable, force applied to the base of the bottle may cause the cap to loosen or detach, particularly if the bottle structure is not especially robust. Similarly, security stickers or tape seals do not always guarantee integrity. A sticker can sometimes be carefully removed, the bottle opened and manipulated, and then reassembled without visibly breaking the seal. In other cases, particularly with freestanding dispenser bottles that lack locking mechanisms or seals altogether, guests may open the bottle out of curiosity or convenience. Situations such as bringing the bottle into the bathtub can lead to minor, unintended contamination. When the bottle is opaque, such changes are often impossible for staff to detect with certainty. For these reasons, regardless of the preventive measures applied, dispenser-style amenities cannot offer the same level of hygiene assurance or refined luxury as single-use amenities. Single-use bottles provide guests with confidence in cleanliness, a sense of exclusivity, and a level of personal consideration that remains essential to the true ultra-luxury experience. Amenities & In-Room Details – The St. Regis Rome Founded in 1916, Acqua di Parma is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious bathroom amenity brands in the world, with exceptionally strong heritage. At The St. Regis Rome, the Blu Mediterraneo line is presented in individual single-use bottles, reinforcing the hotel’s commitment to uncompromised luxury and hygiene. Complimentary drinking water: Acqua Panna Toothpaste: Marvis Bedding, bathrobes, and slippers: Frette throughout Turndown amenities: an Italian-inspired in-room sleep set, complete with a charming pouch and sweets The sleep experience deserves special mention. The bed, pillows, bedding, sheets, and mattress topper are all of outstanding quality. The comfort is best described as “soul-absorbing” especially for bedding enthusiasts like us. The Science Behind Ultra-Luxury Sleep Did you know that the type of filling used in pillows has a significant impact on sleep quality? The finest luxury pillows typically use down clusters, which are the soft inner plumage from the chest and belly of geese or ducks. These provide the softest possible feel, excellent air retention, thermal regulation, and exceptional comfort throughout the night. However, using down alone without proper structural design may result in insufficient ergonomic support for the head and neck. For this reason, ultra-luxury hotels often blend down with a small percentage of feather to enhance structure and support. Feather has a naturally firmer quill that acts as a core support within the pillow. A commonly used ratio in luxury hotels is 85% down to 15% feather, which delivers softness, loft, and bounce while still supporting the head and neck in a balanced manner. If the ratio is not well designed, such as using excessive down without feather support, the pillow may collapse easily and fail to retain its shape. Some hotels may use different ratios depending on design philosophy. Many high-end hotels also clearly separate pillow functions into front pillows and back pillows, each with entirely different down-to-feather ratios to support various sleeping positions and body types based on true ergonomic design, rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. Some properties go even further by offering layered construction pillows, often referred to as a sandwich structure. In this design: The outer layers use down blended with duck feather to provide softness and gentle contouring The inner core uses a much higher feather ratio, sometimes up to 90% feather, to enhance firmness, structure, and support Each layer is housed in its own inner casing to prevent filling migration, allowing the pillow to retain its shape and performance over time, even under heavy hotel usage. Certain hotels also provide body-scale pillows, which can be customized based on body weight, sleeping position, and personal preference. We have experienced nearly every pillow category across ultra-luxury hotels worldwide. Many people wonder why most luxury brands do not use 100% down pillows. While such products do exist, pure down offers extremely high softness, often causing the head to sink too deeply. Therefore, duck feather is added to create resistance and proper support. For guests who sleep on their back and prefer extremely soft pillows, 100% duck down may work well. However, for side sleepers, 100% down pillows are often unsuitable, as the head and face may sink excessively, potentially affecting breathing comfort and causing discomfort during sleep. For side sleepers, the down-to-feather ratio must be carefully engineered to ensure that softness and support work together harmoniously: no sinking, no collapse, and no airway compression. For all these reasons, the sleep quality at The St. Regis Rome unquestionably deserves an Ultra-Luxury rating. No sinking. No flattening. No neck pain. Perfect. Simply put, even the extra bed here offers better sleep quality than the main beds at many luxury hotels. For us, true luxury is inseparable from quality of life, and quality of sleep is one of the most important pillars of that experience. It is not merely about comfort, but about how deeply and effortlessly one can rest. This aligns with standards used by Forbes Travel Guide, which evaluates hotels and resorts based on nearly 900 detailed criteria. Among these are aspects related to sleep quality, including mattress and bedding comfort, room ambiance, light control, and noise management all designed to create a truly restorative sleep environment. On a personal note, we would rank the sleep experience at St. Regis Rome as exceptional, executed at an uncompromising Ultra-Luxury level. Every detail feels intentional and refined, making rest not just comfortable, but genuinely indulgent. If sleep quality were rated out of 100, we would personally give it 1000. Another standout detail: while many hotels in Italy typically provide only a bidet, The St. Regis Rome also offers an Asian-inspired handheld bidet spray, which is absolutely exceptional. On this trip, we spent half a month in Italy, staying exclusively in luxury hotels, and the experience here truly stood out. The bathroom facilities were amazing, thoughtfully designed, and reflected a subtle incorporation of Asian-inspired convenience, blending perfectly with the Italian setting. It’s a rare combination of elegance, practicality, and cultural sensitivity that elevates the overall sta Welcome Amenities The welcome amenities were generous and beautifully presented, including wine, sweets, and flowers, along with a special chocolate selection from Marchesi, a legendary Italian chocolatier with over 200 years of history. Breakfast & Festive Vibes – The St. Regis Rome In Italy, breakfast traditionally centers around bakery-style offerings. High-quality pastries, artisanal breads, premium fruits, and freshly pressed juices form the foundation of the morning experience, often presented in a refined, pâtisserie-style setting rather than a protein-heavy format. At The St. Regis Rome, while this classic Italian breakfast philosophy is clearly respected, the offering is elevated through the use of notably premium ingredients and thoughtful presentation. The selection extends well beyond basic continental expectations, with carefully curated fruits, high-quality cold cuts, refined bakery items, and freshly prepared options that reflect a higher tier of luxury hospitality. However, what truly sets the breakfast experience apart here is not only the quality of the food, but the overall atmosphere and vibe. During the festive season, the hotel is decorated with over 80 real Christmas trees sourced from northern Italy, combined with Murano chandeliers, Carrara marble, and a guest atmosphere that truly reflects luxury lifestyle living. While the trees may not be as fragrant as Fraser fir or Balsam fir from North America, the ornaments and overall design create a deeply luxurious festive ambiance. Recommendation: Beyond the existing made-to-order egg selections, the breakfast experience could be meaningfully elevated by introducing a more extensive and thoughtfully curated à la carte menu, featuring a broader range of specialty dishes beyond egg-based items. In many ultra-luxury hotels across Thailand and Asia, à la carte breakfast offerings are an essential part of the overall experience. These menus often showcase beautifully presented, creative dishes that strike a thoughtful balance between carbohydrates and proteins, reflecting both culinary refinement and a deep understanding of guest lifestyle preferences. Such à la carte options allow guests to enjoy freshly prepared dishes with refined presentation, enhancing the overall sense of luxury while also creating visually appealing moments that translate naturally into guest-generated social media content, further reinforcing the hotel’s premium positioning. While it is fully understood that many hotels in Italy and across Europe traditionally follow a more classic breakfast format, embracing a broader à la carte concept inspired by the diversity and creativity seen in Asian luxury hospitality could offer a meaningful point of differentiation. Notably, several European ultra-luxury hotels, including The Peninsula London and The Peninsula Istanbul, have successfully adopted diverse à la carte breakfast menus that extend well beyond egg selections, demonstrating that such an approach can coexist seamlessly with European hospitality traditions. Additionally, the inclusion of Black Label Ibérico ham within the buffet selection would significantly enhance the perceived level of luxury and align the breakfast offering more closely with top-tier ultra-luxury hospitality standards, particularly in recognition of the growing importance of breakfast as a key decision-making factor for today’s luxury travelers. Outstanding Team This stay was truly elevated by an exceptional, top-tier team whose presence embodied the very essence of refined luxury hospitality. Gianluca – Butler: Polite, professional, and impeccably attentive to every detail. His service was precise, intuitive, and flawlessly executed, ensuring that even the smallest elements of our stay were handled with care and efficiency. Extremely handsome, with a refined presence and calm confidence, he delivered service that felt both effortless and genuinely personal. His professionalism, attention to detail, and discreet warmth truly embodied the essence of St. Regis Butler Service at its finest. Giulio – Guest Experience Manager: Exceptionally warm, approachable, and genuinely attentive throughout every moment of our stay. He consistently took the initiative to greet us, engage in thoughtful conversations, and personally oversee the overall flow of our experience from morning to night. Handsome, incredibly kind, and genuinely charming, he coordinated every aspect of our stay with remarkable care and precision. His constant presence, proactive communication, and heartfelt attention made us feel truly valued and exceptionally well looked after. Deeply impressive and truly memorable. Giovanni – Morning Butler: Thoughtful, attentive, and highly intuitive. He quickly understood our preferences and delivered service with quiet confidence and grace, ensuring each morning began smoothly and comfortably. A female Butler (name unfortunately forgotten): Graceful, beautiful, and highly professional. Her refined presence and attentive service added an elegant touch to our overall Butler experience. Karolina at Lumen: Lovely, attentive, and genuinely engaging. Always warm, friendly, and welcoming, making each visit to Lumen feel relaxed yet polished. In addition, Mr. Andria P. and the Room Service team deserve special recognition. The room service staff personally visited our suite to greet us, always friendly, courteous, and attentive, delivering service with genuine warmth and sincerity. The F&B team, Reception team, Concierge team, and Room Service all performed at an outstanding level. While we may not recall every name (Italian names can be challenging), the consistency of care, professionalism, and friendliness across all departments was unmistakable. Special thanks to Francesco from Concierge, who went above and beyond in assisting us with a lost limited-edition pair of glasses, coordinating tirelessly with the taxi driver and external contacts. Spa & Wellness Team: During our stay, when we unfortunately lost a limited-edition pair of glasses after a night out, the care extended beyond the expected scope of service. A member of the Spa team, Gianluca, kindly assisted by personally calling nearby bars and offering thoughtful guidance on possible locations and next steps. In addition, during our visit to the Spa & Fitness facilities, the spa reception team was exceptionally welcoming and attentive. They personally guided us through the facilities, patiently explained the wellness offerings, and generously shared local recommendations and sightseeing suggestions around Rome. Their warmth, kindness, and willingness to help reflected genuine care rather than obligation. This level of service clearly demonstrated that at The St. Regis Rome, hospitality extends far beyond assigned roles, embodying a culture where every team member is empowered to care. Altogether, the entire team perfectly reflected the César Ritz philosophy of “Invisible yet omnipresent service” always present, never intrusive, and flawlessly executed. Final Thoughts The St. Regis Rome This hotel is not merely historic; it is a living legacy of César Ritz and a pivotal landmark in the history of global hospitality. It is not just luxurious it understands why luxury exists. We are elite members across nearly every major hotel group, including ultra-luxury brands both with and without loyalty programs. We stay in hotels almost daily. Among all of them, The St. Regis Rome stands as one of the most impressive stays we have ever experienced. The vibes are impeccable. The amenities are uncompromising. The experience is deeply memorable. Welcome to the House of Celebration.

A Hotel with a Soul

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Some places stay with you long after you leave, and The St. Regis Rome is one of them. Not only for its beauty, but for the people who give it life. Pietro is the heart of this hotel. After more than 30 years here, he represents everything hospitality should be. His charm, generosity, knowledge, and deep sense of place made our evening genuinely special. Being around him reminded us that, even in modern times, hotels have not lost their soul… it simply lives through people like Pietro. Behind the bar, Federico was wonderful. A talented and elegant young man, he created beautiful cocktails with care and confidence. His presence, combined with Pietro’s warmth and infectious energy, gave the bar a feeling that made everyone want to stay just a little longer and enjoy the moment. We will absolutely return, and we truly hope to see both of them again. Their hospitality felt sincere, human, and rare. The kind that stays with you. Thank you once again, gentlemen. 🙏🏼 It meant more than you may know. ❤️

Luxury, warmth and impeccable hospitality in Rome

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

We stayed at The St Regis Rome to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary and the experience was exceptional from the moment we arrived. The team made our anniversary feel truly special at check-in. Every interaction felt warm, thoughtful and personal. The hotel itself is breathtaking - a palace-like masterpiece that feels worthy of a staycation on its own. The service and attention to detail were immaculate throughout our stay. Every request was handled with care. A special mention to the butler team, who were consistently thoughtful and responsive to our daily needs. Breakfast at St. Regis deserves its own highlight. Chef Cristiano was outstanding - he personally customised dishes for us and made breakfast a memorable part of our mornings. The entire breakfast staff was warm, welcoming and hospitable every single day. The concierge team added immense value to our trip. They helped us book two tours, offered reliable guidance and shared some truly fantastic restaurant recommendations. The only small area that could be improved: the bar staff at night could have been more attentive. It didn’t affect our stay significantly, but with the overall level of excellence at the hotel, this stood out. Overall, our experience at The St Regis Rome was outstanding - luxurious, elegant and filled with thoughtful touches that made our 10th anniversary unforgettable. We left with wonderful memories and look forward to returning.

If you are doing Rome on a budget this place is not for you, but if you want a luxurious treat, you can not beat the St. Regis. If you are a Marriott points hoarder, use them here. Everything from the staff, the rooms, the public areas, just scrumptious. The beds, the toiletries, the service: wow, wow and wow. And the location is superb, not in the noisy tourist areas, but not too far either and super easy access to taxis and cars. We even walked there from the train station in about 10 minutes. Flat rate 55 Euro to the airport. From the front, downhill to all the tourist sites. Behind, the quieter area with great walkable restaurants. I wanted to cry when we left....
