An authentic Kiwi Gem

Location, property, staff, accommodation, food, management and attention to detail 5/5 across the board. What a gem. Old world charm with a modern sophisticated feel. Would highly recommend. This Kiwi lodge has it all. Massive thank you to Wayne and the team.

Loved Solitaire Lodge!

We thoroughly enjoyed this lodge. The staff is wonderful and the food is absolutely amazing. We both agree it was the best cuisine we encountered during our 3 week NZ trip. The view is spectacular and the waterfall hike and morning boat to hot springs exceeded expectations. A little off the beaten path but completely worth it!

Strange....

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 months ago

Beautiful location but was one of the strangest places I’ve ever stayed at. The staff were so sweet but the accommodation was definitely not high end for the amount of money being charged. I’ve stayed at some beautiful places in New Zealand (Huka Lodge, Matakauri Lodge) and the prices were worth it but Solitaire Lodge fell short. The property seemed so old and outdated and our room smelt musty like mold/mildew. The decor/interior especially in the main building was horrendous. The windows were awful with a horrible old tint on them that ruined the views. The whole place just had a strange vibe like it was stuck in a time warp and my partner mentioned that on arrival, the owner of the property shook his hand and he told me later that the owner must be a Freemason and I asked why and he said he did one of those handshakes that they do.

Everyone there PERSONALLY cares about you and your enjoyment….more than most families. They ensure your entire experience in the local area is the best. Wayne and Ian were amazing…great wine, cocktails and food! Don’t miss fishing on the lake and the waterfall trail (this mostly flat trail does have a few steep areas that you have to navigate), the beauty of the falls made it worthwhile. The rooms were nice and spacious with great views.
