The dignified, turreted Rufflet's Country House Hotel is one of the oldest established country manor hotels in Scotland. This member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World is set in 10 acres of award-winning gardens just a mile west of St. Andrews and has been awarded 5 Stars by the Scottish Tourist Board. The main house and two separate lodges offer exquisite guestrooms and suites, all furnished with a tasteful blend of contemporary and antique styles. Fresh local produce and prime Scottish beef highlight fine dining at the Garden Restaurant, recipient of a much-coveted two AA Rosettes.

We stayed in one of the cottage’s in the grounds of the hotel, It’s alright for younger guests to but we are all in our late seventies and eighties and wasn’t very comfortable, the dishwasher was full of dirty dishes when we arrived, and the garden overgrown with weeds, there was a garden table and chairs which one of our party an 86 year old man sat on and it broke under him, it was rotten, luckily he wasn’t hurt badly, just shook up. The hotel and hotel gardens are lovely, pity the same standard wasn’t in the cottage.

The Good: Beautiful and peaceful location, though somewhat isolated — which makes you feel obliged to dine on-site. Fortunately, the restaurant is excellent, offering truly upscale, fine dining. The Less Good: The hotel building and gardens have seen better days. Since the last renovation (around 2015?), signs of wear and age are noticeable. Bathrooms are dated, and the room decor feels tired. As is often the case in the UK, bed sizes can be puzzling — with full or small double beds offered for couples.

We had a wonderful experience at Rufflets. It is a beautiful hotel with excellent accommodation, first class dining, delightful staff and a beautiful garden to enjoy. The location is perfect just outside the town .

Beautiful setting and lodge, in a nice private spot. Unfortunately the room was not very clean and our dinner which was nicely brought to the lodge had hair in it. Check in process was also a bit awkward and unclear.

The staff were all exceptionally friendly and helpful, very professional. Whilst we waited to check in we had glasses of very nice wine from the bar and drank them in the beautiful gardens - the patio is a perfect little sun trap. We were shown to, and around, our room and the facilities provided were perfect, there was nothing we needed that was not provided. In the evenings when we wanted to taxi into the town the staff arranged this for us, and the local taxi company was also very efficient and professional. The breakfasts were fantastic, prompt service but everything delicious and cooked fresh to order. The staff in the mornings couldn't be any more helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay and will definitely be back.
