The dignified, turreted Rufflet's Country House Hotel is one of the oldest established country manor hotels in Scotland. This member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World is set in 10 acres of award-winning gardens just a mile west of St. Andrews and has been awarded 5 Stars by the Scottish Tourist Board. The main house and two separate lodges offer exquisite guestrooms and suites, all furnished with a tasteful blend of contemporary and antique styles. Just home from a wonderful 2 days staying at The Rufflets. The decor is tasteful and welcoming. Very clean and comfortable room with everything you could need provided for including fresh milk and homemade shortbread. We had the a la carte both nights which was delicious . Innovative and flavoursome food was served by knowledgable staff (Craig). Breakfast was excellent with a great selection and beautifully presented . All staff were welcoming and attentive. It was such a tonic to stay and we’ll definitely be back.

The decor is not in keeping with an old country house. The breakfast was really not good, probably because the ingredients… sausages, bacon etc were not good quality. The tables at breakfast were also plastic. The staff were very pleasant though.

Brilliant service , food , room and location - only 7 minutes in a taxi to the centre of St Andrews . We ate in the hotel night 1 then at the best restaurant ( Little Italy ) night 2 .

We stay at the Rufflets for one night last week after hearing good reviews from friends and family. Our evening meal in the dining room was very good as was the service by the waiter, he was attentive and good company. However unfortunately the rest of the hotel let our trip down. We waited over 30 minutes in an empty bar after ordering our drinks to receiving them. The decor in this bar area was more of a care home atmosphere, mix matched old furniture burgundy walls with light blue curtains. The waitress offered an apology when the drinks arrived but was very curt and uninterested. Luckily we had been early enough for dinner by this point or we would’ve been late for our reservation. We then upgraded our room to one at the gatehouse. On first impression the room looked nice however it was the worst soundproofing I’ve experienced. You could hear every movement and mumbling next door making our dog very unsettled and not allowing us to relax. The room was also dirty with large amounts of mould on the shower hose and head, wallpaper peeling and leaky ceilings. Breakfast was unfortunately not the quality of food we received the night before. For my eggs royale one of my poached eggs were soft and the other solid, makes you question how fresh they were. My husbands full breakfast was very sparse with the scrambled eggs being the worst we have ever tasted, almost gritty. We tried to find a manager and check out to no success so left feeling very disappointed and ripped off

This is a quality hotel and is very competitive price wise. The rooms are of a high standard and the views are beautiful. The food served in the restaurant is exceptional and the sofas in front of the fire is the perfect ending to your day. There is also a reading room, function room and a very nice bar with lovely sofas. The gardens are amazing and I’m told there is a path that runs along the burn that takes you into St Andrew’s although I’ve not done this yet. A taxi into the town centre is £7-10 so well worth staying outside the busy town if you’re after a peaceful break. It’s just perfect.
