Our room was great, first floor next to the main building, with beautiful views of the ocean. The resort was fairly quiet but there was construction and maintenance going on throughout the resort to keep it in up to date condition--nothing that bothered us but the second (lap) pool was closed during our stay. The location was great on two beaches (Mermaid and Grotto) and a five minute walk along the golf course to a third (Whistle) beach. While we were there in November, it wasn't very crowded, lots of available lounge chairs and towels. We snorkeled off Mermaid and Whistle beach (there are no facilities or staff at Whistle beach so you need to carry your towels, etc there). Snorkel equipment and kayaks were available at Mermaid beach. Once you check out snorkel gear you can keep them for your entire stay, which is very convenient. We also used the ping pong table and the tennis court facility. The welcoming party was very nice and gave us a chance to meet the owner of the resort. The rooms were kept very clean as were all the other facilities on the resort. The atmosphere was very welcoming and relaxed. We ate at the Terrance and Beauregard and their service was very prompt. The Beauregard has a fairly limited menu (tacos and sushi) but the food was very good. We really appreciated having laundry facilities on the property. I would recommend having a rental car because you might want to drive down to the beach if you are taking equipment with you. Also Christensted is a short 10-15 min drive away as well as Udall Point (eastern most US point). The bars on the resort also close down rather early so if you are looking for night life you'll need to go into town. Next time we go to St Croix we will be sure to stay at the Buccaneer.

I think the review below by ChrisJ from October is a review for a different hotel. There is no French side on St. Croix, and the Buccaneer is unquestionably an outstanding resort hotel. His review has been the first review listed for quite some time so I wanted to suggest this review is not accurate.

We were turned away, after a long drive from the French side. For some reason, an oyster group was coming, we’re not sure what an oyster group was, even though there’s ample parking and it’s a full beach with nobody in an empty bar with nobody in the reyayrant. Don’t waste your time. Find a better reputable place to enjoy the day. Jesse needs to learn hospitality does not turn away five people. Again it’s not worth the drive to buccaneer go find a better place. Trust me there’s plenty.

The resort was an exceptional experience for our family. Every day we spent time lounging in the pool and snorkeling in the lagoon steps away from our bungalow. The staff across the resort provided exceptional welcoming hospitality and the food at the multiple restaurants was delicious. A special thanks to Kenny, the Golf Pro, who is a fun character and a seasoned professional. He went above and beyond welcoming us, getting us set up with the newest rental clubs and with tips on how to play this very authentic paradise course. Golfing on his manicured and picturesque island course will be a beautiful core memory for my 11 year old son.
