If you read other reviews this is a KNOWN issue. I would not recommend as they cannot provide a basic essential service such a running water.

No running water 2 nights in a row

The hotel boasts beautiful landscaping and architectural features in its common areas, promising a luxurious stay. Despite the attentive service from the wait staff, notably Freddy, and the breakfast servers, our overall experience was marred by a significant issue: a lack of running water for two consecutive nights, starting from 10 PM. This unexpected inconvenience greatly detracted from our enjoyment and comfort during our stay. What compounded our frustration was the indifference of the reception to address the problem adequately. Their offer of $32 compensation for the inability to perform basic hygiene tasks, such as flushing the toilet or showering after a long day, felt grossly inadequate given the circumstances. Moreover, the maintenance of the hotel fell short of expectations for a five-star establishment, with noticeable areas in need of upkeep. Although the breakfast, featuring delicious local Belizean cuisine, was a highlight, the absence of local options for lunch or dinner was disappointing. The restaurant staff demonstrated a level of service that was truly five-star. Please note, the lack of an in-room phone system necessitating communication via WhatsApp. For people who are not familiar with it, you’ll need to download the app. Lastly, the exorbitant charge for airport transfers, triple the local rate, was another disappointment, despite the exceptional service provided by our driver Eddy. In summary, while the hotel shows promise, it falls short of delivering a consistently exceptional experience across all aspects of its service and amenities. This hotel absolutely needs to be delisted from Amex’s list of The Hotel Collection. I cannot recommend this hotel save for some exceptional service by part of the staff.

Ka'ana - Great vibe & value

This property isn't one of the fancier jungle lodges, but its proximity to the jungle adventures, ruins and San Ignacio are truly great. It's a small, relaxed place, but there is still a feeling of it being in the jungle despite it not being. The rooms are extremely spacious, well done and clean, as is the entire property. The beds and pillows are huge and very comfortable. We arranged massages and they were great. The pool is not the greatest, mostly because it doesn't have many chairs or the nicest furniture, but it's certainly an adequate one. The main 'house' has indoor/outdoor seating with a lovely deck and adjacent indoor bar. The staff was absolutely a joy. Julio at the front desk along with the others was extremely friendly, accommodating and helpful. And the food, drinks and wine...totally unexpected fresh, flavorful and creative. It was a 9+.

Very comfortable beds and quiet rooms, loved the decor and AC was nice on a particularly hot day. Purified water was provided in rooms in am and again at turndown service along with a sweet treat. We would have loved to have coffee/tea option in room since we tend to be early risers. Service was fantastic, especially Cruz, Sam, and Julio. We loved the Mayan cooking class from scratch with sisters Clarita and Amrita. We also booked an excursion to Rio On, Big Rock and Rio Frio cave. Andee was our guide (self proclaimed "bird nerd" :) who showed us a fantastic local experience. Due to recent heavy rain we could not swim, so we made a special stop at Oxmul coffee farm which was great. Be sure to also take a walk to the onsite organic garden, lots of birds there in the morning. We thought onsite restaurant was good and we had continental breakfast included in price by booking directly. Cocktails were outstanding. Only downsides were location right on highway which was under construction, lack of in room coffee and higher price point.

Not what it wants to be ...

First the good. The people who actually 'work' at the hotel and the guides that they use really were nice people, very helpful, flexible and knowledgeable when needed. We stopped at Villa 1 ... a really great setup up with our own outdoor pool, dining area and shower. The room was always kept clean and trouble taken to service when you weren't around. The single issue we had, a blocked shower, was fixed as soon as we reported it. Now the not so good. A "jungle sanctuary" Ka'ana certainly isn't. The address of the property gives it away. Its literally straight off a busy highway (one of the main routes between Belize and Guatemala). The road is having significant long term work done on it that involves many machines (e.g. earth removers) that make a huge amount of noise. We could hear from our room but the noise around the main common area (bar, restaurant etc) was at times deafening. We weren't informed about any of this at time of booking, i'd suggest you get an update before making your final decision. My last comment is on the food. We found it appalling. Too often the menu was replaced by a special day menu (Lunar New Year, Valentines Day, Super Bowl) which severely affected the choices you had. Why they still couldn't run even the Bar Menu on these occasions i really don't know. There was also a feeling you were being "nickel & dimed" on the food ... maybe a COVID hang-over. Over priced, poor quality, small portions and menu items not being available e.g. ... "no granola" at breakfast ???? Our last morning gave a clear indication of the hotel staff, properly as demanded by management, looking at save the pennies. We could have had an inclusive cooked breakfast marked at say $20 but 2 smaller items of lesser total value, fruit and bread, we had to pay for one of the items as you were only allowed to pick one thing !!! That just comes across as 'cheap'. If the management aspire to be a luxury destination they should look at properties like Nayara Springs in Costa Rica and learn from them.
