Designed to blend effortlessly into its landscape, Nayara Alto Atacama is a magnificent desert retreat. The hotel's architecture incorporates the ancient building styles of the Altiplano natives, with architectural lines that echo the surrounding hills, and colors and textures that reflect nearby rocks and soil. Interiors feature a quiet luxury and authentic sense of place. The surrounding gardens are a microcosm of the desert, created with native materials and seeds, and planted entirely by hand. Moved with humble respect for nature and the local culture, we are proud to promote this piece of the world that has been their home for thousands of years and committed to protect their heritage. Alto Atacama is a multiple award winning hotel, a recognized luxury lodge, a stunning location… More than that, a place high up, closer to the stars.

Superb location just outside San Pedro de Atacama at the start of the Catarpe Valley. Lovely views across the river, especially at sunset. Good restaurant, very good guiding and activities, nice spa and many swimming pools (different temperatures). Also a few resident llamas (the kids enjoyed feeding them). We really enjoyed the astronomy session at night (nice dedicated space on a hill just outside the hotel)

An incredible stay. Amazing experiences with the most incredible staff! The hotel itself was also lovely, clean, and the amenities were great.

Nayara Alto Atacama – Spectacular setting, but tired and impersonal Pros The location is undeniably spectacular, set against the dramatic red mountains of the Atacama Desert. The grounds are well maintained, and the private excursions are perfectly organized, including very good lunches on full-day outings. Vehicles used for the private excursions are clean and in good condition. Our guide Rodolfo was very knowledgeable and kind. Breakfast is pleasant with a decent buffet selection, and the staff at the pool bar are friendly. Cons: Unfortunately, the accommodation itself feels very dated and run down. The rooms are clearly around 20 years old and it shows: they are dark, feel stuffy. Bathroom lighting is particularly poor, with cold LED lights and strange LED strips along the floor that create an uncomfortable, almost clinical atmosphere rather than a relaxing one. If you are assigned a room close to the alpaca pen, you may also “enjoy” a rather strong farm smell depending on the breeze. (room 34) Another major issue is the lack of individual control over the air conditioning. Guests cannot operate it themselves: it runs loudly and ice-cold during the day, yet cannot be adjusted at night when some guests might actually want it—especially during warmer months. Attention to detail is lacking throughout. Drinking water, which is essential in this environment, is provided very sparingly (only two very small bottles at turndown), and we had to ask twice to receive more. At this price point, this feels unnecessarily stingy. Dinner food quality is a real disappointment and does not meet expectations for a lodge positioning itself as upscale. The wine selection included in the all-inclusive rate is very poor and does not represent Chile’s excellent wine culture. Most disappointing, however, is the overall atmosphere. Management is entirely invisible—during our stay, no one in a leadership role ever appeared to greet guests or engage with them. As a result, the experience feels impersonal and anonymous. This was particularly noticeable as we had stayed shortly before at Awasi Patagonia, which is a perfect example of how personal service, warmth, and genuine hospitality can elevate a lodge experience. At Awasi, management presence, attention to detail, and a truly welcoming atmosphere made all the difference—something that is unfortunately missing here. In addition, many staff members, especially in the restaurant, appear insufficiently trained, and language barriers make ordering food or drinks more complicated than it should be. Overall While the natural setting and private excursions are excellent, the tired rooms, weak food and wine offering, and notably impersonal service significantly detract from the stay. Nayara Alto Atacama did not meet our high expectations.

My husband and I stayed for 5 nights and it was one of the best experiences we’ve ever had. The activities were amazing and we got to see spectacular scenery on small group tours with fabulous guides. ( Isadora and Rodolfo were standouts). Geysers, salt flats, llamas, canyon hikes and flamingoes were just some of the highlights. Food was delicious and showcased local ingredients. Cocktails and wine were excellent too Our room (25) was very comfortable and had a lovely outlook Staff were amazing and we are now researching other Nayara hotels. An unforgettable holiday which we loved
