Tierra Atacama shines as brightly as the stars that twinkle above it by night, within the vast and arid northern desert on the outskirts of the small village of San Pedro de Atacama. Overlooking the Andean mountain range and nearby Licancabur Volcano, the retreat is designed to immerse guests in the landscape and provide a luxury base for those eager to embrace the spirit of the altiplano. With dramatic views of the surrounding desert and majestic Licancabur Volcano, twenty eight elegant rooms offer a luxurious retreat and have been designed to bring the outside in, with subtle nods to the region's rich culture and history.

My family and I had a fabulous Christmas holiday at Terra Atacama, the staff made our stay extra special. Chris and Freddie were the BEST!

From the moment we arrived at Tierra Atacama, the hotel left a lasting impression. The design is stunning, the atmosphere warm and welcoming, and the surrounding desert landscape immediately puts you at ease. The excursions were a real highlight of our stay, guided by people who were not only highly knowledgeable but also genuinely engaging. Our room was beautifully styled, very comfortable, and impeccably maintained throughout our visit. Overall, the facilities were excellent, although the hot tub could have been slightly warmer. Our main disappointment was the dining experience. Given Tierra Atacama’s strong reputation for cuisine, we expected much more. Unfortunately, several of the dishes we tried lacked depth of flavour and felt fairly unremarkable. We actually enjoyed more authentic Chilean food and better meals elsewhere during our travels. The fixed menu was somewhat restrictive, and while there is an all-day menu available, we found those options to be quite underwhelming as well. Service was a bit inconsistent, which was surprising for a hotel at this level. At times, welcome items arrived after our starters, bread service was slow, and sparkling water was poured into glasses that already contained still water. However, despite these lapses, the staff themselves were consistently friendly, kind, and personable, which we genuinely valued.

We had an amazing 5 night stay at Tierra Atacama. From beginning to end the entire staff was so friendly and accommodating. Special shoutout to Chris at the front desk who always had a smile. We had lots of great excursions - would highly recommend the geysers, cactus hike (if comfortable with a more active hike), and red rocks/lagoon - but all were enjoyable. About half of our excursions ended up being private. Rooms/pool/spa and food/drinks all great, and absolutely stunning sunset views from the outdoor fire pits. Highly recommend!

This is our second experience with Tierra hotels and it measured up to our expectations. They literally think of everything and guests don't have to do anything but relax and enjoy the food, excursions, spa and hotel facilities. From pickup at the airport with welcome snacks to drop off at the airport with a box lunch to take with us, it was a phenomenal experience.

We just returned from a 3 night stay at Tierra Atacama. This trip was combined with a 4 night stay at Tierra Patagonia, previously reviewed. What a beautiful, peaceful hotel! It had been recently remodeled and it was spotless. Truly a desert oasis. 28 rooms, very clean and casual. The design and decor was exceptional. Food and service were outstanding. The people were so friendly and warm. We especially want to thank servers Kevin, Luna, and Violeta, tour guide Angela, as well as managers, Chris and Carol. Thank you for your kindness and for taking such great care of us! The drive from Calama airport was approx 1:10. The town of San Pedro is nearby and worth a quick (short) visit. Our only criticism was the lack of lounge chairs at the pool. The pool has 6 lounge chairs and 5 regular chairs, so 11 total chairs at the pool. The resort has 28 rooms, so perhaps 56 guests max. That math doesn’t work. The busiest time is between Noon and 4:30pm between morning and afternoon excursions. Two days in a row we went to the pool and had nowhere to sit. Some guests were sitting on the ground. We went back to our room. Also, the outdoor pool is very chilly (muy frio). The indoor pool is heated and quite nice. Overall, an outstanding and very unique experience. We would definitely recommend it!
