Good location and Marriott property

A wonderful suite experience, liked having outdoor patio on top floor, nice welcome amenities. The breakfast was special especially with outdoor space. Wonderful location and helpful staff. A food tour left from hotel that was a great introduction to pintxos.

Very good with a few upgrades required

Maria Cristina is undoubtedly a beautiful, characterful hotel. The Basque welcome from reception was really appreciated. We received a lovely glass of the local wine and the person who checked us in was so pleasant and helpful and that theme continued throughout. The reception and door staff couldn’t do enough. We had room 301. An upgrade from the garden view we had booked. A spacious room, very comfortable bed, Byredo products, bottled water which was replenished throughout. On the downside there weren’t any tea / coffee making facilities! No cotton pads / buds. And worst of all no walk in shower. We had to climb over a rather dated bath! Breakfast is in a very traditional dining room which is lovely but the buffet is below average in my experience and most especially for a 5 star hotel. The coffee is horrible no matter the variation! Coffee in San Sebastián is poor generally but a very helpful guide recommended Simona (opposite Maria Cristiana) and that is where you’ll find a decent cup! The breakfast was hit and miss. I like a yoghurt and sometimes the space where they normally would be was simply empty. We had room service twice sitting out stay. The food and delivery was very good. €29 euros for a beef burger / club sandwich!! Location is probably the best in terms of everything you’d want to see and walk to so overall I’d recommend but a few upgrades need to be considered.

A top quality stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

We loved this hotel. It is perfectly located with everythjing in San Sebastian just a walk away and plenty of space around it. We had a premium king room, looking out towards the river and the sea. The room is a really good size, and it does that rare thing - there is space for two people to sit comfortably without one of you having to perch on the bed or on a desk chair. The bathroom was large and worked well, and they haven't skimped on the towels. So many hotels give you a decent-sized bath sheet and then a mean little hand towel to use for everything else, including wrapping around your wet hair after a shower. These scraps inevitably unfurl themselves irritatingly as soon as you position them. Here there were ample towels of a sensible size. Breakfast is very good - friendly and helpful staff and a good selection of stuff on the buffet. The "specials" on the menu are included in the price of the breakfast, so do try some. Best of all? The staff. The front desk manager was brilliantly welcoming when we turned up at 0930, way before check in, having taken a v early flight from Madrid. He went out of his way to welcome us; to get us into our room early; and to make sure that we could have breakfast even though we had not yet checked in. All excellent service. This is not a cheap hotel, but the quality shines through. Really liked it.

Grande Dame Hotel- definitely stay here!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

Fabulous “grande dame” hotel which is well- run with friendly staff. Beautiful dining room for breakfast. Great location and enjoyed our dinner in Cafe Saigon. We booked suite 423 and our adult children stayed in the adjoining room 424 which was most convenient. Nice Byredo toiletries
