Reviews for Hotel Casa del Mar

Casa Del Yeah!

Stayed here for 3 nights in an Ocean View King room as part of the hotel's Stay More, Save More package which also included a one-time, US$100 credit to be used towards F&B. After an 11h flight, we arrived slightly fatigued and jet-lagged only to be whisked away to reception by a very friendly bellman. Complimentary waters were immediately provided, including an overview of the hotel's facilities, dining options, how to apply the F&B voucher, and complimentary champagne and strawberries brought up to the room as we were celebrating a birthday. First impressions matter so much, and Casa nailed it. The room: beautifully appointed, with a side view of the Pacific and the pool. An enormous bed (disclaimer: if you're on the shorter side, there is a stool provided to help you climb into your personal kingdom of catching z's), a luxuriously appointed bathroom with jacuzzi tub and large, separate shower and WC. We loved the Dyptique products and the overall cosy vibe of the room. Only minor downside: some of the bathroom cabinets didn't appear to be thoroughly cleaned (dusty), especially the drawer where the hairdryer was kept (lots of hair). Tip for housekeeping to be a tad more detail oriented. Windows are also very stiff and challenging to open/close. Through our jetlag haze, we decided to go down and enjoy a quick dinner at Terrazza, the hotel's Italian restaurant with breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and the Santa Monica Pier. Both service and food were fantastic. We tried the pool twice for just about an hour each. Over the weekends it tends to get really busy (lots of families with kids) but Hector is a real asset to the pool deck and incredibly attentive to all his guests, providing refreshments, water, and clean towels. Complimentary coffee is provided in the hotel lobby in the morning and provides a quiet place to read or work in the early hours of the day. We tended to wake up early, grab a coffee, and go for a morning walk on the beach - heaven! We tried breakfast at Shutters once morning which was "ok", it's more about the setting than anything else. As it's a sister hotel of Casa, you can charge items directly to your room which is a plus. The one thing I will have to say is that Patio Del Mar was absolutely dead and had zero vibe while we were there - perhaps think about amending opening hours and including breakfast service al fresco in the morning? I think one of the main things we were missing in the hotel is a bar/restaurant with an outdoor offering. Everyone seemed to flock to Shutters for that. Minor snafu after checking out, when we were incorrectly billed for purchased items from the refreshment center ex post facto. After an email exchange quickly rectified by Zack. Room prices are punchy, perhaps a tad too overpriced for its overall service offering BUT we had a great time and would definitely consider staying here again when in Santa Monica.

Excellent, with very attentive staff in all departments

Excellent location, right on the beach ! "Human size" hotel with very caring staff from concierge to reception desk/valet and bar/restaurant. Rooms are very comfortable and the food is quite good with wide choice. I particularly enjoyed the breakfast taken everyday in the restaurant. Excellent initiative to have a house car available to guests for short transportation (3-mile radius). Would definitely return

Completely failed to book a room at this hotel - hanging website, rude staff.

Hard to write a review of a hotel with a non-functioning website and rude staff on the reservations line, but here goes. Decided to go to LA for a couple of days - Having stayed at Shutters and Casa Del Mar in the past we thought we’d stay at both. Trying to book a single night’s stay at Casa Del Mar, we found that the website simply hung three times in a row. No choice, we had to phone in to make a reservation like it was the 1980s. One positive is that someone was sitting there at around midnight to take the call. The negative? They hung up a minute into the call. I guess with rooms around only $1,500 a night there’s no need for service. Perhaps it’s true what they say…you just can’t get the staff. We booked elsewhere.

Historic gem

Historic gem on a beautiful beach. Ryan treated us to a beautiful ocean view upgrade. Although the weather was in the low 60s due to the marine layer, we still enjoyed the hot tub, which was maintained at a perfect temperature (nice and hot). The room was nicer than a Four Seasons imo. Mid April was definitely off season and there was construction throughout the hotel, but it did not disturb us at all. Hotels.com somehow fumbled the ball on our 60$ per day food and bev credit so be sure to get that in writing. Free shuttle in 3 mile radius after 4pm. Free 2 hr bike rental can be picked up from stand on beach side in front of shutters on the beach. Keep an eye out for happy hour deals at both casa del mar and shutters in the beach. Highly recommended!!!

Great Trip! I will be back 100%!

What a wonderful property! From check-in to check-out, the staff are friendly and accommodating, and they even remember me by name! Impressive! This was a mother-and-son trip; we had rooms with balconies by the pool. Perfect arrangement. We had dinner the first night at their hotel restaurant and enjoyed the live music in the lobby. It was a lively, classy vibe that was thoroughly enjoyed by all. During the day, we drove to LACMA which was an EASY drive. On the second night, we chose from one of the hundreds of dining options around the hotel and again returned to the lobby for more music. Overall would highly recommend the hotel to anyone.

I thought the hotel was spectacular. I have stayed in many 4- and 5-star hotels around the world, but never thought I would find such a beautiful hotel in Santa Monica.

I was fortunate enough to stay at Casa Del Mar my last two business trips. My room was very comfortable and well-appointed. The fluffy white bed and pillows – divine! The entire staff I encountered were helpful and courteous – from maids to wait staff in the lobby bar and restaurant. Everyone made me feel welcome – rockstar treatment though I'm far from that status. A peaceful haven after a busy day of work.
