The hotel’s location is on a quiet residential area, just few blocks from the Third St. Promenade, and the hotel’s lobby, café and garden are open to hotel’s guests only. The style, the elegance and the welcoming and friendly staff will make you feel like a resident, not a tourist. The Palihouse Santa Monica is a great place to stay if you are looking for style, comfort, hospitality, and at the same time you want to be closer to Hollywood and Burbank.

This hotel is very quirky, which is both a plus and a minus. The rooms are very large with cute, quirky details and the location is very quiet. The hotel has an old Hollywood vibe which is fun and different. However, the rooms have some serious issues. The first room we were given had an shockingly uncomfortable mattress. It felt like it was 20 years old - saggy, lumpy, just bad. There really is no excuse for a mattress like that in a hotel. After two nights of terrible sleep we moved to a room with a much better mattress but still not as good as most hotel mattress I've experienced. We were in a one bedroom residence which is like an apartment with a living room a bedroom and a kitchen. We came to discover, however, that the living area has no climate control- no heat, no A/C, nothing. It was an unusually chilly April and our living area was freezing. The only thing the hotel could offer was space heaters. I don't know what happens when it's hot and you need to cool down the space. In the bedroom you were able to control the heat but if you needed to cool it off, you had to call downstairs because the A/C is centrally controlled. You cannot regulate it in the room. That really should be made clear when you book the room. I don't think this is the case with other rooms. As mentioned in another review, the bathrooms need updating. EVERY hotel should have a magnifying mirror these days! The hotel has a $25/day amenities fee which is a joke as this hotel has no amenities. There's no pool, no gym, no bar. The only amenities are a few bikes and a candy assortment they put out every afternoon. Given the high rating the hotel receives, we were expecting a different experience.

Great location and staff, large room. Cozy lobby. But missing a few modern amenities. Add bedside outlets, luggage racks, update bathrooms.

For me, a first impression is everlasting. This has to be one of the most underrated and under the radar hotels that I've ever stayed in. You know when you've found a gem that's SO good you kinda wanna keep it to yourself? This is the place and as much as I'd like to keep this gem of a hotel to myself, I'd honestly be doing this lovely place a disservice by not giving it the credit it deserves. Service was Grade-A from start to finish. The beautiful front courtyard garden was only just the beginning. When you step into the front lobby, you immediately fall in love with the character, lighting (oh my god the lighting is *chef's kiss*), and history maintained within these walls. We were greeted by the lovely Piper attending the coffee bar who made us feel right at home while we waited for our room to be ready. Then we were pleasantly surprised to have our suite prepared earlier than anticipated and we were very grateful for that. The staff members, Javier and Jacquie, made sure we had all our needs and accomodations met. What I loved about this place was how they've managed to keep all the beautiful parts of the original building and really make it their own. The GM, Hector, was also constantly making an effort to meet his guests needs. The room itself was extremely clean and the bedding was so comfortable. We had an amazing suite view with a courtyard view. Do yourself a favor, and make your trip to Santa Monica special and unique. Skip on the Marriotts and Hiltons and make your vacation memorable by staying here.

We love the Pali Society of hotels and loved this location. We have now stayed at three of the Pali locations and we love all of them, but I think this one is our favorite. The dark, moody vintage charm of the interiors paired with the green, vibrant and serene outside grounds (which we spent a great deal of time lounging in) and the staff are what makes this place special. The bocce court is such a fun touch. We stayed in a Grand Studio with a kitchen which was lovely. The staff is wonderful. Truly. And the location is ideal as we could walk to most things (Santa Monica Farmers Market, Sugarfish, Michaels, Salt’s Cure and the Pier etc. We will be back.
