Three days ago I was in a car accident. It made me wish I didn’t live in Hollywood California. The city. I had been to the proper once before to visit family from out of town. I had lots of points to apply to a stay but new, I needed to see a friend, get out of my neighborhood and be somewhere that was just perfect in every way. I booked a standard room with whatever miles I had on my Milage Plus account, reached out to Julio, the manager, and he honored my platinum elite Marriott status With an upgrade that seem to make everything in the world right again just for the night. Every single person who works at the proper has excellent hospitality, training, interpersonal skills, and a warm welcome delivered with a smile. Julio had seen me act in a movie he really loves and made me feel super special. Then, I got lost on the wrong floor and a most wonderful guy name. SIXTO stopped everything he was doing to personally walk me/escort me into the elevator down to the correct floor and exactly to where I needed to go. He said, “ I am happy to do my job for you.“ Julio even went into the room before I got there and put a channel on the Apple TV that I had mentioned, I would be watching. It was beyond delightful, the food on the rooftop truly stellar. Thank you, Julio! You went above and beyond and that’s rare these days anywhere. Ernest, thank you for the generosity of spirit as I was leaving!

Clearly a "hip" hotel that over promises and under delivers. The terrace room at over $700 per night was small and the terrace was not only small but overlooked a parking lot and the door didn't lock! The decor seemed 1970's with strange wallpaper vs the contemporary style promised. The room service was poor and the front desk people acted like they were doing one a favor when they finally got round to checking us in. And the parking is $70 a night + valet tips. I felt ripped off!

My son and I used many services of the Proper including the pool, both restaurants, room service and the concierge. The two restaurants have outstanding menus and quality of dining, and are very different. The rooftop restaurant beside the pool is vibrant, while the one off the main lobby is comfortable and relaxing. Beyond the excellent facilities and service, of special note is the staff. All the employees, in every position, are exceptionally friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. Kudos to them all!

From the moment we arrived at the Santa Monica Proper we were greeted with outstanding customer service and beautiful decor. Located close to the beach, it is within walking distance to all Santa Monica has to offer. It was a lovely experience and we will definitely return.

This is the second time I've stayed at the Santa Monica Proper Hotel, and this time, longer. The Proper never disappoints. From coffee downstairs in the morning to an afternoon by the pool, or late night in-room dining, you never need to question whether or not you'll have top notch service. Coming and going you always feel welcomed and safe, with a comprehensive keying system and lobby attendant. I recommend The SM Proper and look forward to my next visit.
