A Tale of Two Experiences: Modern Facade with Underwhelming Details

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

Upon first glance, the hotel presents a modern and fresh exterior that promises a contemporary stay. However, the allure quickly fades once inside, as the affordable nature of the furnishings becomes apparent. The cleanliness leaves much to be desired, with the shower area particularly showcasing a lack of attention to detail. The breakfast service was notably subpar, with a consistent shortage of essentials such as plates and cutlery. The presence of two coffee machines did little to alleviate the morning rush, as only one was operational, leading to an endless queue. Additionally, the WiFi strength was disappointingly weak, hindering any attempts to work efficiently. These observations were consistent on the 19th and 20th of April, 2024. Whether these issues were an anomaly or a regular occurrence is unclear. However, it's worth noting that on the 21st, the conditions appeared to have improved.

Stay away for the elevator foyers

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

This is a story of 2 parts over 2 stays 11 days apart. The first stay was pretty good, we had a room on the 17th floor where the views were amazing The room was large and clean. The shower is a plastic insert and very slippery when wet. The shower head was large but a lot of the holes were blocked, but effective enough. The wi-fi was good, the breakfast was OK. We had lunch there as part of a group and it was very poor. The steak was like rubber. The bed was very firm and very high off the ground. So overall this stay was pretty good. However stay No2 came along. This time the room was on the 3rd floor so views of air conditioning units were in your face, but not a problem. This time there were 2 significant issues. The floor was very dirty, feet ended up black after a shower. The second issue is that the room was located in the foyer next to the elevators. All night there was loud music which penetrated our room making sleeping difficult. We rang the night manager but he could do nothing about it as he did not know where the on/off switch was. Make sure you do not book any room around the elevator foyers.

No where near 5 star

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

Stayed 3 nights precruise ( Silverwing)….initially, our room was 12 feet from the elevator… noisy… had an adjoining door…. Could hear our neighbours every word Breakfast was weak, room was very average which is ok but not if you are a 5 star hotel…. Spoke to others who stayed at continental hotel down the street and then at nh plaza…. Very disappointed. Had lunch… big mistake… beef was totally inedible. 99.9% of my reviews are positive…. Not this one.

Not a Five Star Hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

We stayed in this hotel pre-cruise as we headed to Antarctica. The cruise line put us up there so it was not our choice. It was billed as a five star hotel but it clearly was not. The rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable, however, things like the head board that had a leather type cover, were pealing apart. The food was mediocre at the restaurant. Breakfast was not great. Plenty of choice but not very good quality. Coffee was terrible. We ordered a couple beers from our room one night and it took over a hour to get them, including having to go down to the bar to get an opener! Then the guy from the bar knocked on our door to 'get his opener back'. We had not finished our first beer so we said no since we needed it to open the second!!! Really, a five star hotel that has only one bottle opener!! There was a lack of English in the hotel. I clearly understand that I am travelling to a Spanish speaking country, however, English is the language of the cruise we were going on, and it would have been nice for the hotel desk to have at least one person who could help out in English. The person checking us in had to resort to Google Translate to get us checked it! Not five star. We didn't use the pool as it is indoors with a glass roof which made it like a greenhouse. Very stuffy and uncomfortable up there. They claim to have a shuttle to and from the airport but I could get no one to provide me with information on that. I tried calling and emailing and got zero response (I even sent an email in Spanish). We paid for a taxi from the airport and they guy there said most shuttles do not run on the weekends. On the positive side, it is in a good location and was clean and comfortable.

Won’t be returning

Stayed here for one night before a cruise and was really unimpressed. Nowhere near a 5-star experience: - Check-in was absolute mayhem. Staff had no idea what was happening. They told everyone that “rooms would be available in the next hour”, they told us that at 11am. So when people are waiting in the lobby and going back at 12, to be told “check in is at 3pm”, everyone was rightly annoyed. Just tell everyone that to start with - Staff generally really rude. You get to the front desk and they would ignore you. It’s like you are invisible. It’s fine if staff are busy, but a courteous “we will be with you shortly” would be nice, rather than pretending you aren’t standing there - The windows are not double glazed, so it’s very noisy. Even being on the 17th floor, we could hear everything going on outside - 1 bottle of free water in the room to share between two. - No dressing gowns or flannels - Cleaners knocked on our door early in the morning to ask if we wanted our room serviced. But we were checking out that day. So woke us up for no reason The main two positives were that the room was a decent size (we had a superior room) which was clean, and the location is in a good and safe part of Santiago.
