Reviews for Melia Santiago de Cuba

Nice place to be

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Melia hotel was a great experience. Very nearby the center of Santiago. Nice rooms. Beds sleep well. The bathroom had everything we need. And it was quiet. The staff was very kind and helpfull. Great lobby where they make real mojito's. And coffee in the morning. Dinner in the restaurant was limited in choice but much better as it is for the cuban people in the town. Staff again very friendly. At the birthday of my daughter they sang for her, great surprise. We visit a couple of times the rooftop bar with a beautiful view at the city. Great mojito and a cool breeze to relax in the evening. We did not visit the swimming pool only for a drink at the bar. Looks good and the people seemed to have fun. There where only a few people staying in the hotel, because a lot of reasons you know yourself, therefore not everything was open and is a pity. The hotel and staff deserves more visitors. Our special thanks are for Pedro, the tall man in the lobby. The gentleman who was always thoughtful and friendly. And, very nice, his English was very well so we could have a ( small ) conversation with him. And when we asked some, he tried very much to find a solution. Thank you Pedro, the man who likes Sky Radio 😀, to make our visit very pleasant.

Good hotel, great people

It’s a great hotel. Beautiful rooms, lobby, and garden. The food was good. Sometimes, water wasn’t available, but that was understandable given the conditions of Cuba. I’m not a swimming pool person, but it looked nice. The buffet was closed sometimes in the evening because there were less than 30 people in the hotel. But the Italian restaurant downstairs was an acceptable alternative. Especially the kind and helpful staff made it an unforgettable experience.

No attention to detail

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 months ago

Of course Amelia is a valued name in international hotels, but here, there is a real lack of attention to detail. This is not the fault of staff, but management I guess. The hotel is an oasis and provides many facilities. Most staff are very pleasant and helpful - especially the porters / doormen. The customer service rep was very kind, but as a new member of staff carrying out management policy did place her in a difficult situation. The hotel offers suites for about 60% more than its rooms. The main benefit being a bathroom with jacuzzi. The problem; none of these functioned (none), and the bathtub had seen better days. My query with the hotel - if this extra does not exist - why charge the extra? The hotel has two lifts/elevators - one of which has been out of service "for a long time"... it really took a while waiting. The reception staff seemed very unfamiliar with reservation proceedings, with a very long wait for a room (after 3pm). The restaurant; food choices are good, but the washed linen ( napkins ), are badly stained.. All of these negatives, detract from what is a good central location with many helpful staff and a good atmosphere. It is worthwhile for a relaxing day or so, but please management, do your job, take pride in your hotel and give value for money!

Very nice experience, would recommend.

Very clean rooms, beautiful swimming pool and lovely, friendly and helpful staff. The food offer is also very good considering this is Cuba and shortages of different things are common. We stayed on the 10th floor in "The Level" rooms, and got bottled water every day as well as practical items to help with being out and about such as packets of tissues to take out with us (not everywhere, including museums and restaurants, have toilet paper all of the time!) We had an excellent time here, and would recommend this hotel to anyone planning to visit Santiago de Cuba.
