Embracing a legacy of rich history dating back to the 15th century, Hodelpa Nicolas de Ovando Hotel is located on the first paved road of the New World, Calle Las Damas, in the heart of Santo Domingo’s historic Zona Colonial, designated a UNESCO Heritage Site. Comprising three stone houses and courtyards built in 1502, the historic building was the very first to be built on the country’s colonial land and the home of the town’s founder and first Spanish governor of the Americas, Nicolas de Ovando, and his companion Christopher Columbus.

Had an incredible experience, the hospitality was on another level. The receptionist was able to accommodate an early check-in for us. Felix went above and beyond! Friendly and kind, he walked us to our car late at night to ensure we were safe. One of the best hotel stays we ever had and we cannot wait to come back.

Our waiter Darlyn was very helpful guiding us through the menu and everything he recommended was excellent. The restaurant is located in a historic hotel and is beautifully decorated. Highly recommend for a traditional Dominican food experience.

I had always considered Hodelpa one of my favorite hotels, but our last stay turned into a devastating experience for my family. Personal belongings were stolen directly from our room, including jewelry from my husband’s recently deceased mother, my very first wedding ring, and a gold chain. These were items of immeasurable sentimental value, and their loss has caused us pain that money cannot repair. What makes it worse is that one of the employees who entered our room was later dismissed—despite management initially praising her as trustworthy. This has completely shattered our confidence. We were loyal customers for years and always recommended Hodelpa to friends and family. Sadly, after this incident, we cannot return and strongly caution others. What should have been a joyful family trip became a moment of loss, sadness, and mistrust. The case is now in the hands of the Dominican police.

Hodepal Nicolas de Ovando is a 💎 gem. The service offered by the staff is superb and that’s what makes this hotel stand out from the rest. It’s like being home without all the home work. It’s very clean and the location is perfect. My thanks to Ana Magnolia Mendez, Juan DomingMendez Quesada, Luis Solis Taveraz, Hector Abreu, Edwin Feliz Gonzales, Francisco Ramirez, Yesenia and the rest of the staff for their outstanding service. I am very grateful and appreciative. Rosario Egan
