Embracing a legacy of rich history dating back to the 15th century, Hodelpa Nicolas de Ovando Hotel is located on the first paved road of the New World, Calle Las Damas, in the heart of Santo Domingo’s historic Zona Colonial, designated a UNESCO Heritage Site. Comprising three stone houses and courtyards built in 1502, the historic building was the very first to be built on the country’s colonial land and the home of the town’s founder and first Spanish governor of the Americas, Nicolas de Ovando, and his companion Christopher Columbus.

A stay in history – beautiful building and wonderful service This hotel is housed in a spectacular historic building — you truly feel like you’re staying in a piece of history, knowing it’s one of the first structures ever built in the Americas. The rooms are simply decorated but pleasant, with lovely high ceilings that add to the charm. The bathrooms could use a small update, but overall the stay was very comfortable. The breakfast was excellent — really, excellent! The staff are all so kind and attentive, especially Omar, the concierge at the front desk, who helped us choose a great restaurant and was incredibly kind throughout our stay. The street where the hotel is located is beautiful and perfectly situated in the Colonial Zone, close to all the main restaurants and attractions. A truly enjoyable experience that I would happily recommend.

Amazing building dating from 1502 but with all the modern upgrades you could want. The staff is uniformly friendly and capable. The room was "cozy" but overlooked the Ozama River. The 1502 Restaurant had delicious food and drinks. Try the grilled cod (bacalao)! The location is perfect fir the Zona Colonial, steps from Calle Conde and the Christophe Columbus square and all the sites. The area is charming and very safe. Safe and short walk to the Malecon. Do not forget to make a late night stop at the Mosquite Social Club just steps from the front door. Parking was free and secure and easy to access. Will come again every time we are in SD.

This is one of my favorite hotels in the world. A stunning restoration of a beautiful 500+ year old building, one of the oldest in the Western Hemisphere, filled with gorgeous courtyards, interesting art, and a delectable swimming pool. Located in the heart of La Zona Colonial, there is no shortage of museums, restaurants, bars, and shops within walking distance. The charm and lively energy of this beautiful neighborhood will stick with you long after you leave. I would like to thank the attentive and friendly staff of Hodelpa de Nicolas Ovando, who helped make my dream wedding come true. Muchas muchas gracias. In particular, I would like to thank Mr. Felix for his kindness and dedication to making us feel welcome and comfortable. I cannot wait to return to this fantastic property! Until next time!

A beautiful property steeped in history and classic architecture. However the best feature is the staff! Amazing service made my trip five stars. A special thank you the Felix, muchas gracias.

Had an incredible experience, the hospitality was on another level. The receptionist was able to accommodate an early check-in for us. Felix went above and beyond! Friendly and kind, he walked us to our car late at night to ensure we were safe. One of the best hotel stays we ever had and we cannot wait to come back.
