Perfect for staycations.

The hotel is just incredible. The rooms are big and everything is in order. I particularly like the desk for people who work even on holiday. The breakfast is a little lacking, but overall the staff made me feel better because they almost have everything that you can ask for.

Very comfortable rooms and kind staff, mediocre club lounge experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

We booked 2 one bedroom club level suites for us and our teens (16 & 18 yrs) for 3 nights. We took an Uber from GRU which took about an hour and a half for what I believe is about a 20km distance (traffic in the city is insane so be prepared) and upon arrival we did not have anyone greet us nor have a bellman in the front to help us with our bags. Not a huge deal as we don't travel very heavily with baggage but would have been nice to have an initial greeting at a 5* hotel and likely would have been a bigger annoyance to other guests needing assistance. We were surprised that we were not sent to the club level for check in, which has always been our experience when club level rooms in upscale hotels are reserved, and we were very slowly processed in the main lobby after waiting in line. We were slightly early for check in and only one of the rooms was ready but we were told the other should be ready within about 30 minutes. We went to the one room that was ready to drop bags then to the club lounge to wait for the 2nd room. Hoping for some drinks and snacks after the long flights, we were disappointed to see that there were hardly any options available during the afternoon (small selection of nuts and cheese, a couple of bottles of water and a few sodas servicing the whole lounge). This began what turned into the "how hard is it to get a bottle of water around here?" joke with our family for the duration of our stay (turns out the answer is very hard). We waited for our room for close to an hour and checked back in with the lounge concierge and were again told it just was not ready. This was now quite a bit past the official check in time so it was becoming very annoying. After almost another hour with no apologies or reasons for the delay, it was finally ready. Really not acceptable for a hotel like this. The one bedroom suites we had were corner suites, very spacious with generous areas in the bedroom, living room and bathroom, and 2 nicely sized closets in the bathroom. We were happy we booked the larger rooms as the floor plan was very nice. The views were gorgeous from the living room and the bedroom had an abundance of large windows overlooking the city which was beautiful. I was pleased that the king beds in both rooms had a generous 6 pillows each and the beds were extremely comfortable with very high end linens. Photos on the website are accurate - the furnishings and decor are a bit dated but it still works, somewhat. The bathroom was a disappointment from a housekeeping perspective as it was not ultra clean. The grout in the shower had mold in it which you can see in my photo, and the tile and grout were very worn, chipping and badly needing updating. Towels were noticeably frayed and needing to be replaced and the toiletries were sparce and not regularly replaced during our stay. A nice touch that is rarely seen in rooms is live plants/flowers throughout the living room and bedroom side tables. I liked that a lot. Back to the bottled water, we had 2 bottles in the room at check-in and that was all that we had for the stay with no restocking. The weather was rainy our entire stay so we were unable to use the outdoor pool but looked at it and it looked very nice. Acceptable gym and indoor pool, and our daughter had a massage which she said was very good. The breakfast at the club lounge was adequate, not poor but not memorable either. We were always quickly seated when a table was available, coffee orders were promptly taken, staff was always nice but it was very, very busy in there and everyone seemed a bit understaffed and overwhelmed based on how long it took for tables to be cleaned. Evening drinks and apps were just ok, nothing like higher end 5* hotel lounges we've experienced. Cheap sparkling wine, mediocre wines and a small and underwhelming selection of food. Views of the city were pretty but the lounge furnishings and decor itself was just ok. Back to being able to get water, staff only had a few bottles on hand at any given time, so water was always hard to come by in the rooms and lounge! We ordered room service our last night and it was unimpressive. The cart was basically just pushed into our room with no lids pulled or presentation at all, bill was handed to us and blah food. I ordered salmon that that's all I got was a single bland piece of fish on my plate (no garnish, sides, nothing?). We had dinner one night at Kinu sushi bar downstairs and it was very good. One concern I should mention is the security in the hotel. We were there during Lollapalooza and quickly realized this property was where much of the talent was staying. There was their private security all over the entrance, but the hotel staff and security seemed more preoccupied with the scene of the celebrities rather than ensuring everyone in and out of the lobby were guests. There were barricades off the porte cochere for fans to stay behind, but we were in and out of the lobby area pretty frequently during our stay and were never asked if we were guests nor to show a room key and it seemed literally anyone could just walk in. Overall, a good experience but certainly not the most memorable 5* hotel.

wonderful

great location and wonderful staff. This is an established hotel for decades. The bathroom is bigger and better layout than those in new hotels. However, they keep it very clean and spotless. Impressive.

Terrible experience - room not well maintained, bad breakfast, bad service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

First of all, I'm a Hyatt loyalist and have visited multiple properties around the world, including Grand Hyatt in Aruba, Grand Hyatt Kauai, Park Hyatt in Chennai and Melbourne, as well as multiple Hyatt Place, etc. So, I love Hyatt. However, the Grand Hyatt São Paulo was a complete disappointment. First: service. I asked for something simple to be brought to my room. I was assured it would. It wasn't. Ever. Nobody ever contacted me. During breakfast, I had to ask for an omelette 4 times, before I was finally able to eat it. Second: food. Food, particularly the breakfast, at the hotel, was absolutely terrible. The buffet breakfast looks good, but the food is terrible, particularly the Pão de Queijo (cheese bread). This is a very common, and cheap, Brazilian breakfast food. How the Hyatt could get this wrong, is beyond me. No, this wasn't a one-off instance. I've given them this feedback several times now. I'm making it public now. Third: Hotel condition. This is supposed to be a nice property. And for the most part, it is But then.. there's the details. On a past stay, there were marks on the wall that should've been painted over. This time, the door to my room wouldn't close easily and made a lot of noise. This is not what you expect in a 5-star property. In this same area you have 3 well-known large US-chain hotels: Hyatt, Hilton and Sheraton. I've stayed at the three of them. I'm sad to say, among all of them, the Hyatt has the best gym, the best room design and the best property overall. However, it has the worst service, the worst maintenance. Next time you visit São Paulo, don't stay at the Hyatt.

Great hotel in a distant location

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

This hotel is best enjoyed with realistic expectations ahead of time. The facilities are nice. The pool area is large, pretty, and hidden from the city (not easy to do in Sao Paulo). The restaurant options are multiple (brunch, Japanese, bar). The buffets are a little pricey but have a good variety. The lounge, if you have status or pay for it, is a convenient extra with places to work or socialize with a view. The staff, from the front desk to the waiters, are all thoughtful and effective. All this being said, the hotel is far away from most things related to either business or pleasure. One will need to drive or take a taxi some distance to get to any activity. Basically nothing is in walking distance. But there is plenty to enjoy at the hotel itself.
