Opportunities For Improvement

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

I booked a stay at Adero with friends to celebrate my partner's birthday, lured in by the seemingly attractive price. Despite being aware of its location a bit outside of Scottsdale and having encountered mixed reviews, my experience failed to live up to the "Autograph" brand promise. Check-in was smooth, a positive note amidst disappointments. However, one of the passenger elevators remained out of order throughout my stay, a clear negative. My first meal at the property was enjoyable, albeit with slow service. Yet, the comfort of the mattress and pillows (too soft) left much to be desired, resulting in a discomforting night and a backache. The gym pleasantly surprised me, ranking among the best I've seen in hotels or resorts. However, some equipment lacked cleanliness and maintenance. While showering, I found the provided amenities surprisingly gentle on my skin, a rare delight in hotel toiletries. However, breakfast proved frustrating with long wait times and overwhelmed staff. Throughout my stay, there were both highs and lows, leaving a mixed impression. Notably, guests should be wary of the automatic parking fee, which requires disputing if unused. Would I choose this hotel again? At half the price of luxury alternatives like The Phoenician or The Arizona Biltmore, maybe. But at the same price, absolutely not.

Needs Some Work

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

The Adero is really now a 3 star hotel masquerading as a luxury resort. The pluses are great views, a very nice gym and a small but serviceable spa, plus many of the staff are nice. The minuses are that the food is pedestrian (despite the price - even with inflation), served slowly, and sometimes not available at all. For example, the take-out counter decided to close Sunday morning for renovations, despite assurances the previous night that it would be open. Only one of their elevators was functioning, and many of their water stations on individual floors were closed. There is no ice available, except by request (and then they do deliver a lot :-)), and no room service. They also miss the easy-amenities, like water in the lobby (there is a water station downstairs near the pool and gym, but it takes a while to find it) and free coffee in the mornings. In the rooms, the beds are nice, but there is only one drawer and 7-9 hangers for clothes. With a little more thought and property maintenance, this resort could really up its game. I hope that they do.

Room Location Matters

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

This was a girls' trip. My friend made the last-minute reservation. We were assigned a room in the low rising cliff-side section of the property, with doors that open directly to the outside (motel-style). We learned that gnats and mosquitoes hover just outside the doors. We entered our first room to find that quite a few of the bugs had made their way inside. The carpet was well worn and stained throughout. The bathroom shower was older with rust stains toward the floor. We asked to switch rooms and were given the room next door. The 2nd room was also in need of updates, but clean and relatively free of bugs. So, we stayed. We learned that we needed to be very quick at the door, each time we entered and left the room to keep the bugs out. Another friend had stayed at the hotel in January. She had a room in the main hotel with doorways inside the building (no bugs at the door) and said it was a wonderful, updated room. A couple of other guests staying in the main building told us the same. The pools were nice. The food at Cielo was really good! We played pickleball and enjoyed a hike at a nearby trail. The desert and mountain views were outstanding. I enjoyed being in a more remote location. (Definitely get a rental car. It's about a 20-30 minute drive from most of the Scottsdale attractions.) Overall, we had a good weekend, but I recommend making sure you reserve a room in the main hotel. I would not return to a cliff-side room.

Ok, just not special

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

Ok, but not special. Pool was great. Our room was on the first floor, found it odd that be can’t access the pool without taking the elevator up. There’s a door to the outside area, but no path to the pool. Our room was bare bones. Not even a rug or carpet. Really needed something by the bed at least. Towels for the bathroom (and extra toilet paper) are outside the bathroom in a closet. Plan your visit). Loved the area though. I gather they’re having staffing issues (under staffed) but the staff that was there seemed to be working hard.

Housekeeping staff dishonest - managers simply do not care.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Well, check-in was a a half hour process - lots of waiting and we had traveled all day so we were anxious to make our dinner reservations and get settled. The concierge must have been a new hire - Dinner was at Cielo. Very little waiter attention - took 10 minutes to get seated (we were the only ones at the station) and another 10 minutes for the waiter to notice us. Dinner was ok - though the entree was cold. Room: bed was lumpy with distinctive furrows on the right and left sides. we were in the villas in room 20. I was traveling with my sister so was alone in the bed and slept in the middle. All this totally do-able... and not the end of the world. But the coup d'gras was the thievery of my pillows by housekeeping staff! I have a neck disc issue and brought my own $$$$ pillow.Actually I brought 2. When checking out we had lots of "stuff" to carry out to the car down the stairs and through the parking lots. I made 3 trips with various bundles/suitcases and had placed the pillows - very distinctly - at the end of the bed to be sure and bring home. Well, I got sidetracked helping my sister and my niece put their luggage in the car - and damn - I left my pillows! We called immediately and were told that housekeeping would be notified and get back to us right away. No return call. The next day I called back and they said they would get with housekeeping again. Waited all day for a response, Sharon called and said that the only pillows in the "lost and found" were (2) of the same style pillows - and it was obvious to me then that they were NOT the ones I left. For an Autograph Hotel it was a huge disappointment. And in speaking with Sharon, it was like she didn't believe that I had really left these pillows and was inclined to believe the housekeeping staff when they said that never found them! IMO no matter where you stay - the housekeeping staff should be first and foremost HONEST and held to that. I would not recommend staying here.
