About the Hotel

Poised on a 375-acre coral island, surrounded by the azure waters of the Indian Ocean, Denis Private Island Seychelles is one of the planet(TM)s most magical retreats. This romantic sanctuary is just a 30-minute flight from Mahé, on the rim of the Seychelles plateau that divides the archipelago(TM)s inviting shallow waters from the mid-ocean depths. Each element emphasizes the natural bounty of the region, from the elegant sea-facing chalets to dining experiences that include candlelit dinner à deux on the beach. Once a pirate(TM)s lair, the island boasts numerous treasures waiting to be discovered. You might embark on a nature walk in search of local tortoise, board a Mako 34(TM) Striker for a day of fishing, or visit the old village, whose buildings date back to the 1930s. Bottom fishing the flats is another popular way to unwind, as is scuba diving, canoeing and exploring the unique, diverse eco-system that has changed little since explorers first arrived on these pristine shores two centuries ago.

Hidden Paradise!!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 20 hours ago

Denis Private Island was a perfect place on earth. The small island is mighty in what it has to offer. History / nature / amazing staff / luxury cottages on the beach / an endless beach extended entirely around the island / rain forest full of birds / sea full of turtles / amazing food. The owner obviously cares deeply about his Island as well as Lorenzo and Vanessa with their amazing team. Attention to detail with warm / friendly smiles and focused on our every need. This is absolutely an island that should be on your bucket list. It is now on our return list!! Many thanks!! Dru and Brent from Texas.

Enjoy a genuine paradise experience on the gorgeous Denis Island

We spent 4 full days on Denis Island. Taking the 25 minute Zil Air flight from Mahe and touching down on the grass runway is an exhilarating start to a wonderful stay. The Island is about 5kms with picture post card empty beaches and an untamed tropical forest. As Vanessa, the front of house manager joked as we set off in the golf buggy for our tour of the island “do you want to see some dinosaurs” - it had all the expectations of Jurassic park. Although we didn’t see dinosaurs the Island is a habitat to an impressive array of tropical birds, some rare species introduced because the Island offers a safe sanctuary having removed non indigenous predators over the last twenty years. The island also is home to an impressive colony of tortoises ranging from a few weeks in their tortoise nurseries up to Toby who was about 126. The island proudly upholds a tradition of self sustainability with vegetable, fruit, livestock and fresh fish all being nurtured on its farm and surrounding seas. This means everything you eat is sumptuously fresh. The food on the island, which offers full board is exceptional. The local ingredients are crafted into a varied menu and on occasions themed evenings, such as Asian, BBQ and Creole nights. Breakfast, Lunch and dinner are all great, and served mostly in the airy thatch and timber restaurant. Our Chalet gave us the feeling of a private residence. There were a variety of places to sit, on the veranda to enjoy the sun sets, on the shaded beds or on the sun loungers right on the beach to watch the sunsets and the wildly amusing beach crabs at play. Anil who looked after us kept the place spotless and fresh despite the constant wrestling with the sand from the beach. Our side of the beach tended to get the wind, so we went to the Belle Etoile beaches on the other side to snorkel in the shallow depths. This was a particularly nice treat to celebrate a birthday where the staff put bean bags and, at our request laid out and champagne fruit at sunrise. This was followed by snorkelling with sea turtles and a myriad of bright tropical fish. We enjoyed a muscle massage from Florence which was great. The highlight was the friendliness and welcoming nature of the staff, who without exception were always so keen to make sure we were having a great time. We particularly enjoyed our chats with Vanessa, Anthony, Narender, Pradeep and Joel. We haven’t named everyone, but all the staff were great. Despite some unseasonal wet and windy weather we had a great time and would be happy to recommend Denis Island.

Just Perfect

Absolutely Incredible. The food was amazing and the people there were all pleasant and did a great job taking care of us. We stayed in a Beach Cottage with our own private beach, perfect for us. Antony at the front desk went above and beyond to take care of us. The hotel even provided us with a dinner under the stars as we were there to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. Also the fishing and snorkeling trip was just perfect. It was a great trip and we can't imagine it being any better. Thank you Denis Island to provide such a great stay!

A beautiful private Island, with fantastic staff and lovely food.

A rubbish start to our holiday after a couple of days stuck in the Dubai Airport flooding chaos plus a lost luggage situation, which didn’t help. I can’t thank the lovely staff on Denis for doing their best to make us feel welcome and supported. The staff are amazing and absolutely nothing is too much trouble. Thank you for looking after us and being infinitely patient ☺️. We appreciated each and every one of you. The food is fantastic and we enjoyed every meal, including the speciality BBQ and Creole evenings. Also a good wine cellar. This is a lovely Island, with a great ethos and trying hard in the battle to improve conservation. Lots of birds and of course, the tortoises and turtles… snorkelling with the turtles is a joy. There are challenges here, there’s no glitz or glamour but if you’re looking for an authentic experience in the Seychelles, on a beautiful private Island, with fantastic staff and lovely food, then I would highly recommend.

Our third time!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 months ago

We absolutely love it there ..the lack of internet access in our chalets is a real bonus. You are forced to unwind. We loved our chalet , number 12, as we could swim directly from our room. All the staff are wonderful and the Giant Tortoises a real pleasure. The white birds are fascinating….one chick had fallen off her branch..so I hope that by wrapping it up in my serong that her mother didn’t get human scent. I put her back on the branch…so fingers crossed! We will definitely go back next year - for longer! The only downside, is getting the visa…a real hassle.
