Pudong Shangri-La Shanghai

We had a very pleasant stay at Shangri-La Pudong. The hotel itself is beautiful, especially the stunning lobby that gives a luxurious first impression. Our room was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, with an amazing view overlooking the Pearl Tower and the Pudong skyline. The location is also excellent — very convenient and accessible, close to two malls and the lively area of Pudong, which made getting around very easy. The only downside during our stay was that the bathrooms did not include a shataf. We requested it several times, but unfortunately we were told that it is only available if you upgrade the room, which honestly did not make much sense to us. We believe this should be available in all rooms for guests’ comfort. A very special thanks and shoutout to Mr. Alan Wang from the concierge team. He truly made a difference during our stay. He was extremely helpful, professional, and always attentive to our needs. His support and kindness helped make our trip even more memorable. Overall, if you are looking for a hotel with a fantastic location, beautiful views, and excellent service, I would definitely recommend Shangri-La Pudong.

Stayed for 8 nights as family with 9 year old at Grand Tower. Had organised the hotel transfer from the airport, which was great given we landed late at night. We were met by the hotel driver at arrivals, and seamlessly whisked away in a BMW 7 series. We spent the first night in a Horizon Club Premier Bund View, and were then upgraded to a Grand Bund View Suite, thanks to the intuitive and professional Guest Relations Manager, Lynn (who then stayed in contact with us throughout our stay). Both rooms were spacious and comfortable. Horizon club rooms are on higher floors but obviously the suites are even higher, and provide really good views over the river and the Bund thanks to floor to ceiling windows. The suite had an extra 16sqm of lounge and sitting area, big enough for our daughter to do cartwheels in. Plenty of room for the trundle bed, with added bonus of a Shangri-la teddy bear on arrival. Bathroom, tub and shower were great with good amenities. Housekeeping was great, with impeccable turndown service. Booking a Horizon Club room allowed us to have lovely breakfasts and evening drinks in the Club on level 29, with great privacy and amazing views (Bund on one side, Shanghai Tower on the other). A couple of days however we decided to join the big breakfast area on Level2, where the variety is bigger (kids will particularly like the pastries and lollies buffet...) but the atmosphere is not as refined as the Horizon Club. We must highlight that the free evening drinks at Horizon Club also came with a fairly generous food buffet, and on a few nights it became our dinner after long days of sightseeing. We were never there for high tea in the afternoon, but I'm sure it's great too. The best part however were the staff at the Club, always attentive and helpful. The absolute gem was Dabie, who greeted us by name and a huge smile each day, immediately remembering our preferences in terms of tables, coffee/tea orders, and favourite food. A true professional, made our stay even more special. The hotel has a great swimming pool (you will need swimming caps - the hotel sells them if you forget to bring them) which we used almost every night and was never too busy. From the pool you have views over the Pearl Tower. The gym is great, but probably the best part was the spa-like facilities available for free to all guests (separate men/women areas) which include: sauna, steam room, a large onsen-type hot bath, special light-therapy showers, and a large changeroom/shower area. We used them most days to relax, and on some days we were the only guests using the facilities. Room service was probably the only bit that left us a bit disappointed. One night we arrived back at the room late, ordered something simple to eat (a pasta and a club sandwich) but the food arrived more than one hour later by which time we were ready to sleep. The sandwich (a staple in hotel room service) was really small and sad-looking, and we didn't get any serviettes and other basic table items. Given the impeccable food and service we experienced at Horizon Club and at the other breakfast floor it felt a bit out of sync. Location: we decided for Pudong because we wanted a quieter retreat after long days of visiting Shanghai. The ShangriLa Pudong gives you that, but without being too far from the action: you are right on the river, and right next to Shanghai Tower, Pearl Tower, major shopping centres, metro station, restaurants (and even the Disney Store...). In the morning I went jogging on the riverside at sunrise, super safe, best views with manicured gardens. Bikes are everywhere, and we used every means of transport: metro, the sightseeing tunnel, and plenty of DiDis to go everywhere cheaply and fast. In conclusion, we will definitely return to Shangri-la Pudong again, and stay in one of the suites in the Grand Tower. Highly recommended.

This hotel is simply beautiful. The rooms are huge and the bathrooms well-appointed. Our view was incredible. The buffet breakfast was the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen — you could happily stay there for a week and not sample all of the delicious options. The only negatives for me were the check-in experience (too much to go into here) and the very hard mattress. Aside from that, this hotel is an absolute gem.

The hotel is situated in the city center with extremely convenient transportation Miss Lynn at the hotel is incredibly warm and thoughtful. She offered attentive and caring service. All arrangements were perfectly done, and I’m fully satisfied with my wonderful stay here.

This hotel was built in 1998 and has not been renovated since then. It really shows. The air conditioning is really loud and I think it is poorly maintained because the room smells like mold. Unfortunately, the night I checked in, the hotel was quite full and I wasn't able to switch rooms to one that did not have a dysfunctional air conditioner. I was only offered another room that basically had the same problems. Second, the Wi-Fi stopped working in my room. Because of meetings, I wasn't able to contact the hotel until quite late in the evening when I needed to get some documents sent out. I was told that there was no way to fix the internet because the IT department had already left for the day. This was so frustrating, as I'm sure anybody who has a high-intensity job would understand. Finally, I've stayed in older hotels before where management took incredible care to give guests a good experience through things like service or amenities. This hotel does not seem to care about either. For example, the hair dryer sucks. If you're a woman with longer hair, basically you will burn it off before it's dry. Even the bottled water provided in the room is literally the cheapest type of bottled water that you can possible find. Everything is plastic. I guess this Shangrila only cares about sustainability when it comes to reducing the number of times sheets are changed. I just don't understand how this can be a five-star hotel. It's really too bad because the location is fantastic and you're essentially right on the button. It is such a shame, as the lobbies and interiors were once beautiful. It's such a shame that the standards of this hotel have been allowed to fall so far.
