Originally built in the 17th century by the great Italian architect Carlo Fontana, Grand Hotel Continental Siena is a jewel in the heart of the Tuscan city of Siena. Its transformation from a splendid aristocratic home to one of the world's most elegant hotels inspired a painstaking restoration, and the hard work was indeed worthwhile. With its original architectural features and magnificent frescoes, including a wall painting of St. Christopher dating from the 15th century, the hotel is now an integral part of the city's cultural heritage.

My husband and I spent 2 wonderful days/ nights at this gorgeous hotel. Prior to our arrival Massimo, the concierge was so helpful and responsive. He gave us great recommendations for restaurants and reserved a fantastic local guide for a walking tour. We booked the hotel through Amex Platinum Travel and we received the most gorgeous upgraded suite. We had a view of the Cathedral and Tuscan countryside and small alleyways in Siena. The colors both at sunrise and sunset were stunning. We enjoyed a delicious complimentary local wine and food tasting in the bar area. Laura and Gianpaolo at the front desk warmly greeted us each time we came back to the hotel and were very helpful. The bar and restaurant staff were also wonderful. The hotel is elegant and has many comfortable spots to relax and enjoy a drink either before dinner or after! This truly is a magical place to stay, one we will never forget

This is an elegant and refined hotel, and if you happen to luck upon the right room, you will have an experience here that you might not be able to to get anywhere else in Siena. Or anywhere in the world, for that matter. Knowing nothing at the time, we reserved room 505. This room happens to be in the tower with an astonishing 360 degree view of Siena. To be in a palazzo built by a Pope in 1677 is unique, all on its own. To be at the top of the tower in this palazzo? Once-in-a-lifetime, and absolutely worth it! The “room” itself is a two floor suite. The first floor has a spacious bedroom, two bathrooms, one with a full-sized bathtub, shower, and bidet. The bed is comfortable and the sumptuous bedding luxurious, and there is a separate “pillow menu” offering a wide range of pillow options, including scented and memory foam and other surprises. The second floor is the reason to get this hire. It features the view, which is breathtaking. It is lavishly equipped with a desk fit for a prince, bookcases with unusual old editions, a full coffee and tea service, and a sitting area with a sofa, couch, coffee table and armchair. We had complimentary macarons as well as a high hat of prosecco waiting for us. The two rooms had multiple arrangements of fresh cut flowers as well as an orchi in full bloom. The walls were exquisitely padded, and delicate period art was on all surfaces. If I am giving you the impression that this suite is sumptuous, I have succeeded. I am to understand that nobility has stayed in this hotel, such as Queen Marguerita of Savoy, as well as modern day luminaries such as Andrea Bocelli and Daniel Craig. It would not surprise me if they stayed in that very suite. Do yourself a favor. If you are in Siena, stay here. The staff are exceedingly gracious, helpful, welcoming, and will make you feel like royalty. You will not regret it.

My wife and I have stayed at this hotel twice in recent years as we visited Siena- it is outstanding! The staff and manager- Nathalie Beaugonin- went out of their way to make sure our visit was memorable. We received a free upgrade to a room that was awe inspiring (see photo). Highly recommend using your hotel credit for the wine tasting located underground in a newly discovered and renovated wine cellar. It is hosted by one of their staff members who is a certified sommelier (can’t remember his name). He conducted the wine tasting for us both times. The hotel has all of the architectural features and feelings of the historical scenery of Siena itself. Located near the center of town, it provides easy access to all locations and events. Whenever we stay in Siena, this is our go to hotel.

Terrible wifi... could not get more than 1 bar of WiFi and kept disconnecting..it's strange that some Hotel and Italian cities believe wifi is oops a future game ... unfortunately it a real need for real working people...may be this is not for such

We came to Siena to celebrate our wedding anniversary with friends and family, stayed in this magnificent hotel for a week and had the most enjoyable experience that exceeded our expectations in all areas. From excellent location and elegantly appointed rooms and common areas to ample breakfast, impeccable customer service and relentless attention to detail - GHC delivers! Many thanks to GM Nathalie and her staff members Federica, Anastasia, Elena - no request was too small or was left unattended. Furthermore, the hotel team went above and beyond to make us feel as valued guests: we were truly touched by welcome gifts, a gorgeous bouquet that was specially made to match my dress colors for our photo shoot at one-of-a-kind Salone delle Feste and even a toy provided for our grandson during our private dinner at the wine cellar (highly recommended!) Thank you for exemplary hospitality in the heart of Siena, we can’t wait to be back!
