Reviews for COMO Cocoa Island, The Maldives

Overall positive experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

A second visit to this beautiful place since 2012, and our 9th time to the Maldives after visiting some really nice resorts. Still, Cocoa Island has our heart - it was this place that made us fall in love with this beautiful place on earth 12 years ago. A very peaceful place to fully relax, lovely rooms (we stayed at the loft villa), and the Como Shambhala has remained our favourite spa of all times - Chandra and Tari were two very kind and amazing ladies who took care of us throughout our stay. Restaurant - the breakfast buffet options were a lot less than other resorts we’ve been to - but it offers healthy options which is enough. Dinner menu slightly varies each night, all very beautifully and thoughtfully designed dishes. Whilst I cannot fault the service at staff (meeting expectations), the experience we had with the staff during our last visit and at Como Maalifushi were so much more passionate, personal, enthusiastic - that was absolutely another level. Lastly - slightly disappointed upon checkout, we were given departure forms of another two guests (with their passport details), which I would’ve expected extra due care when handling personal information by the front desk. Relative to other experiences - it felt like once you’ve checked out and settled the bill their job is done - we had 3 people waving us and other guests off, when other resorts had a full crew sending a warm farewell. Having said - this is the first time we’ve been to the Maldives during low season so things are cut back.

An amazing place to stay! The staff were very lovely and made conversation with all the guests. The marine life around the island was beautiful and the food was delicious. The shambala area provided the perfect place to relax at the spa along with use of the hydro pool and yoga classes.

It was the second visit in 3 years to Cocoa Island and upon arrival we were told with a smile that not much on the island had changed. It was exactly what we wanted to hear. I hope it never changes as it was another incredible stay. It's a very easy trip from Male in the speedboat which is a big plus if you're travelled far to get to the Maldives. We stayed in a Dhoni Loft Water villa this time and loved the design of the villas. They have everything you need and real character compared to some of the identikit villas you can find on other islands. It's hard to imagine a more beautiful island itself whether you're walking out to the sandbank, sitting on the sand by the pool, or snorkelling at the house reefs seeing an incredible array of marine life including turtles, sharks and rays. We did a sunset dolphin tour as well which was a real highlight. The food was once again superb. A real highlight last time and again this time. It was great to see Anura and Fanny again who provide such warm friendly service, and Ravi who makes incredible cocktails. It was also really nice to see Wisam each evening at dinner chatting to guests and making everyone feel so welcome. We hope to be back again very soon.

Outstanding Maldives Boutique Resort: Como Cocoa Island

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

A short fast boat ride from Male airport lies Como Cocoa Island resort, lying in the South Male atoll. With only 33 villas/suites – all over-water – this is a small resort by many standards and is all the better for it. If you’re seeking a peaceful Maldivian retreat, with superb personal service delivered in a friendly low-key way, this will be hard to beat. Coupled with outstanding food and idyllically pristine waters – providing ample snorkelling and diving opportunities (3 house reefs on the island) - together with complimentary non-motorised water sports, Como Cocoa Island really delivers. The beaches are also maintained to a 5-star standard with an army of staff grooming them to perfection on a continuous basis. Wild life was abundant for such a small island during our stay, with numerous sightings of sea life (Turtles, Black-tipped Reef Sharks, and Stingrays as well as a plethora of fish) and birds (Waterhens, Bitternes and Herons amongst others). We stayed in both a Loft Water Villa (which has a separate “upstairs” bedroom and toilet as well as a full luxury bathroom, a large lounge and deck on the main level) and a One-bedroomed Pool Villa (offering a private infinity swimming pool in addition to the other luxury accommodation features). The private pool is a great-to-have addition, but the other water villas – all giving direct access to the sea via steps from both deck and outdoor shower areas – will satisfy most needs for frequent immersion! Another outstanding feature which we took full advantage of, is the Hydrotherapy pool offering a magnificent luxury means of unwinding in a series of “stations” set in peaceful and comfortable surroundings. There may be only one restaurant, but the culinary offerings are more than adequate in variety for discerning tastes, and the quality of the food service, it’s presentation and sheer quality left nothing to be desired. Every single dinner in our 10-day stay was a delight and the wine list would put many a much larger establishment to shame. And for aperitifs and/or digestifs, Ravi serves wondrous cocktails and other drinks in the adjacent bar. All of the resort’s facilities and operations are curated by an excellent staff led by Wisham who personifies the friendly, ever-smiling but low-key provision of helpful service. Our villa butler Fanny looked after us supremely well and Nidup in the restaurant was always hard at work whisking another dish or beverage our way. A huge Thank You to ALL of the Como Cocoa Island staff – including those guiding us through the Male airport arrival and departure processes, as well as the housekeeping staff who worked hard looking after us – for their unstinting devotion to our happiness during our stay. I have always frequent Como dining places cos I love the food, ambience, and the serving crew. But, the team in Como Cocoa escalated my opinion in Como brand. The resort is quiet and beautiful. The team member in the resort made my experience a very very beautiful, pleasant one. Shout out to Wisam who is the GM. He is always there to say hello and very attentive.
