Reviews for Crown Towers Sydney

Crown- no way near good enough

Good location. BUT everything else fell well short. Reception massive queues and poor team, terrible Wifi, can hear people in the room next door, pool area for size of hotel very small, housekeeping very hit and miss

Stay away…do not book….you’ve been warned!!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

As I write this review I am currently still a guest at the hotel as our reservation was for 8 nights. Our troubles began after the first night. We woke up on the first morning with fresh bug bites on our arms, legs and on my face. I alerted Guest Services and they advised that the room would have to be vacated as they would need to test it for bed bugs. We were booked into a suite and were told we would be upgraded to the next category. While it did not assuage our discomfort with all the bug bites, we accepted the upgrade and thought they were making an attempt to make amends with us. The upgrade was of a larger space but with a view of a vacant lot construction site with a busy highway going across it. Our initial premium suite had beautiful harbor views from all rooms and angles. We did not feel that staring at a construction site for a week was acceptable. We were told it was all they could offer us and that we could go back to our room category but it would not be available for at least a half day. By this time we had packed up our original room, had to cancel our morning plans and felt quite displaced at the additional wait for a new room. We expressed our discontent to which the manager was adamant that nothing else could be done and did not feel that anything else should be done to offset our inconvenience. At this point we were actually paying a premium suite room rate for a suite that was nonexistent. It was disgraceful treatment for patrons who were paying a premium. They did not even ask to see our bites or if any creams were needed. The picture I’ve attached were for just a few as I did not wish to upload more body photos of us. I wish this was all that has gone wrong, but it wasn’t. TV did not work, room IPad non-functional. Untrained workers were sent to our room three times to try to solve the tv issue over roughly 2 hours at night (we were told engineering was not available at night which made little sense to us for such a large hotel). At ~10pm we gave up and asked to send engineering back the next day. During breakfast we were informed we could only be seated for 1 hour. In our entire life of being hotel guests, we have never been given a time limit at breakfast. We spent a few nights at the Park Hyatt Hotel and the difference is heads and shoulders above the Crown. The worst part is that we were advised that the General Manager would be in touch with us the next day. You guessed it…we never heard from them. You’ve been warned, go elsewhere.

Exceptional First Stay – Crown Sydney Won Us Over

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

We had a wonderful stay at Crown Sydney. Check-in was seamless and handled with exceptional hospitality by Jean, who went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. The thoughtful surprise of champagne waiting in our room set the tone for a great visit. Our room was immaculate, well-appointed, and very comfortable. The pool area was a clear highlight, and the location suited us perfectly. We wouldn’t hesitate to stay again. Special thanks to Jean for a truly memorable experience.

Great stay

Stayed for a friend's wedding. The room was beautiful with a nice view. Jean front office was lovely and helped us with our stay and choosing restaurants. We had a lovely time.

Not what I’d hoped it would be

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

A little late as I stayed two months ago but now getting around to writing about the truly bizarre experience that was Crown Towers Sydney. I’m still not sure I’d stay again, because this hotel was both disingenuous in its advertising and death by a thousand cuts in its average service offering against the premium price tag. I stayed for two nights to celebrate a milestone birthday for my mother, travelling from interstate specifically for the trip. The trip was planned months in advance. I paid more for a twin room with what was supposed to be a harbour view, as opposed to rooms with just a city view. Even with a 20% sale discount, this was still almost $750 a night. I was absolutely horrified when we checked in to find a room overlooking a filthy construction site, with obstructed views of the bridge. It was NOTHING like to advertised photos. Garbage bags flapping in the breeze, mud puddles and a huge dusty hole in the middle of Barangaroo. It was utterly awful, and I was devastated. This resulted in several phone calls to reception (the first two of which rang out), and a hasty visit from the front office manager to try and allay my concerns. I’d never felt so ripped off by a hotel an I honestly wanted to leave. We were offered an alternative room on the 24th floor with a view of the bridge and opera house, which I accepted only because I couldn’t be bothered switching hotels on no notice. It was much nicer, and mum was happy and that was the main thing. The front office manager tried to smooth things over by offering a complimentary breakfast and a few gifts sent to the room, but I was so irked by the completely disingenuous advertising and the horrible first room it cast a shadow over the entire stay for me personally. The stay itself was otherwise fine, and the staff at Epicurean are always lovely. The service at check in a check out left a lot to be desired though - a pretty average bunch on reception all of them, and outwardly more friendly towards overseas guests - and concierge were pretty abrupt too. The queue to check in and check out is stupidly long at peak time and I must have waited at least 20 minutes both times. I found the whole service experience at Crown Towers a bit soulless, a bit like the hotel itself. Glamorous, yes, but not the least bit welcoming. I can’t say it really wowed me for the price, and the initial poor experience. Crown has absolutely no business charging a premium for those abominable Harbour View rooms and I strongly recommend anyone considering staying not to select one - choose an Opera View on a high floor and spare yourself the eyesore. Honestly though, there’s luxury hotels in Sydney with a far better level of service for less money and I’d probably go to one of those than choosing Crown Towers again.
