Shangri-La Hotel Sydney

Luxuary in Sydney CBD. Found my new favourite hotel for Sydney trips. Close to city and shops. Comfy room, massive decadent bed, views to die for and VIP treatment from the moment I walked in the lobby. Special mention to Dave at the lobby bar for his amazing service! and highly recommend the happy hour before heading up to the main bar.

The Horizon Club is always fabulous that I used to stay at this beautiful Shangri-La for several times especially during COVID-19. They acted like Psychologist, helped us to cope during Quarantine stays. Inside their ALTITUDE restaurant, one and only our HERO, Krijal is an exceptional manager — truly something special. He always treats us like no other: first class, VVIP++ every time. Raffa, Dariya, On, Sagar, and Alberto also went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and cheerful throughout the evening ✨. There were four of us 🇦🇺 my dad, Papa Adrian, Eric, Derryck, and myself &we had an absolutely amazing night. The food was outstanding, perfectly complemented by excellent wine pairing ♥️… dank u well.. A special thank you to Executive Sous-Chef Michele and his team, who delivered a fantastic dining experience from start to finish. Dank u well.. 🇳🇱 What a night to remember as we celebrated Christmas 2025 heading into the New Year 2026. Truly unforgettable. We will definitely be backkk 🔥

We stayed for 3 nights at the Shangri La Sydney in a double room paying approximately $Aud 1600. Boasting 36 floors, the Shangri La Sydney is perched on the high side of The Rocks area, that is, if you walk down to the surrounding area, Circular Quay etc, you should have a degree of fitness to get back as there are various stairs or steepish slopes to walk back up. Accommodation floors afford varying rooms over the surrounding area with views including Circular Quay on one aspect, with the bridge, opera house, to other views towards the north shore, Darling Harbour. The rooms are well kept and staff are lovely and very attentive. Checkin was smooth but could have used more staff to the busier periods. The decor is somewhat dated, with marble bathrooms, curtain ties etc and to be fair, the standout of the hotel is the bar on the 36th floor which affords fantastic views across Sydney harbour. The Shangri La group does suggest a degree of opulence and a high end hotel stay and looking at the cars which are parked at the front, Lamborghinis, Rolls Royce to cheap(er) Porsches & Audis, it is still considered high end, but I would suggest that as nice as it is, a renovation is due to bring aspects like the marble bathrooms up to 21st century decor. Is it nice? Yes it is, are there better options? In Sydney there are more modern hotels.

Overall happy with the stay. Rooms have not been renovated for a long time but maintained well as are the common parts. Location is good to access the rocks area. However it is all a hike uphill on return so of vs the other hotels in the rocks is no in easy to walk location. Breakfast was good, team friendly and resonable value. Room clean, noise quite if you could hear the road/motorway it is close to. Distances, 15m walk to Sydney Opera House, downhill. Longer on return given uphill. 10m to ferry. Rocks area has lots of places to eat etc. Overall would recomend and stay again. Views from some rooms can be very good.

The hotel is without doubt in a good location but I fear it trades a little too much on the location and the top floor bar. Views from the bar and restaurant are fabulous and I enjoyed watching the sun go down one evening with a table by the window with great views over the harbour bridge. However, other than one occasion when the service was attentive, I found the service to be both very slow and slightly off-hand. I used the pool which is OK but pretty underwhelming. I also had a 6th floor room with an Opera House view but the room wasn't high enough for a decent view of the Opera House and, on the last day, there was a cruise ship in the harbour which blocked the view. I was obviously on one of the lower floors but this was disappointing given I booked specifically for the view and the room was advertised as having a view of the Opera House - which it does but only when cruise ships aren't in town (and they're there a lot!). Room was good but nothing to write home about. Overall, I would say it was good but overpriced and a bit tired - not to the high standard you might expect from a Shangri-La.
