Terrible service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

We came for the high tea over Easter appaling service my friend complained which they disregarded and actually got abused by Gionata from the level 36 who called up and went on the attack and was verbally abusive. Further my friend asked if it possible to get 1 extra brisket only if available as there was such a poor collection of food we have honestly never been hungry at a high tea before . I have worked in hospitality for over 20 years and to think it ok to behave in such a way to paying customers is quite frankly shameful. As a 4 star venue this was shameful. It was embarrassing when they brought over a tiny brisket and said “chef said that will be $10?

Mother’s Day high tea is a joke

Black lights, disco music, dark, felt like a wedding party except it was a Sunday at 11am! Can’t see properly what you eat because black light turned a simple strawberry jam into techno fluo pink. The music was loud and clumsy in the choice I put 2 stars because the food was good but I eat with my 5 senses and it was really a big miss: Not much choice either however I have to say I was reluctant to try fluo cakes and fluo sandwiches sprinkled with a touch of “beat it” by MJackson or other faded 80’s music enhanced with subwoofers. Avoid.

Don’t stay here for your special occasion!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

We chose to stay here for our wedding night based on reviews on Google and family. Unfortunately, it was the biggest regret of our wedding day. I told them in the reservation that it was our wedding night and we wouldn’t arrive until after our reception at 11pm. The staff barely acknowledged that we were in our wedding dress/suit. Other guests were more excited for us. They did not upgrade us or have anything for us in the room. We paid $535 for a very basic room with just a view of the major road below. While it isn’t mandatory to do these things, it was so disappointing that we chose to spend the most special night of our lives at their hotel and they couldn’t care less. After this, we stayed in 3 other hotels for our honeymoon and every single one gave us an upgrade as well as wine and chocolates in the room. (One was an airport hotel that was only $130 in Sydney!!) I have been fortunate enough to stay in other 5 star hotels in Sydney and I would encourage you to choose one of those for your special event. At this hotel, you are just a number and they don’t care about your special occasion. I did try to discuss this directly with the hotel to rectify it prior to posting this review but sadly, no one replied to my two emails.

Excellent stay

We stayed for 3 nights. Our booking included access to the Horizon Club which was excellent. The staff throughout the Shangri-la were very friendly and attentive. Two issues. When checking in we were requested to leave a deposit of $425.00 for any damages to the room which will be refunded if all is OK. We checked out of the room with no damages, 3 days later we still did not get a refund. We called and was told that the deposit could be held for 22 days, we were not informed of this when checking in. Spoke to the manager and expressed our disappointment and he organized for a refund. We refrained from using our credit card during this period due to this debit. So beware. The toiletries were not replenished on the third day even after having to requesting room service.

Great stay, great breakfast, great views!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We were given free breakfast for being Hilton Honors members, and we loved it! Pastries, juices, miso soup, beef bulgogi, rice, toast - in addition to coffee choices (recommend flat white and lattes), and one hot dish per person. The Australian Breakfast (eggs, bacon, etc) was hearty and filling. The Cruffin (combination between croissant, muffin, and cinnamon bun) was delectable. One of our servers, Hitomi, was so attentive and kind. She really made our breakfast special. We also upgraded for Aus $30 per night to a 27th floor room overlooking the harbor, and the view was one of the best things about our Australia trip. It was amazing waking up early and watching the ferries go around the harbor while the sun rose. To get here, we took the train from the international terminal to Circular Quay and walked around 10 minutes to the hotel, which is up a slight incline. We were sweating a bit by the time we got in, but it was definitely doable if you don’t want to pay extra for an Uber.
