About the Hotel

Conversational murmurs and tinkling piano rise through the atrium, shouts of laughter accenting the melody. Joy understood in any language. There’s a sense of intrigue here that is impossible to place, much like Taipei itself: a melting-pot metropolis infused with Chinese, Japanese and Western influences, where Taoist temples stand next to gleaming skyscrapers and hot springs steam the base of the Tatun volcano group, a mere 15 km. (9 miles) north of the city.

Reviews for Regent Taipei

Well located, attractive hotel in central Taipei

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 13 hours ago

A well located hotel in a smart district of Taipei, a ten minute walk from Zhongshan MRT and one stop from Taipei Main station (or you can walk from Zhongshan via the air conditioned underground passage). We booked a Tai Pan room but unfortunately the Lounge was closed for renovations. To make up for this we had access to the Balcony Lounge (which offered wine and beer with a basic assortment of hot and cold canapés from 6-9pm every evening) as well as a daily credit of NT$1,000 per person per night (roughly GB£25 so GB£50 each day for the two of us) to use at the Gallery Bar and Restaurant. This worked out well for us as overall we had three decent dinners with drinks in the Gallery. Not actually experiencing Tai Pan Lounge we’re not sure how it compares but it seemed fair. Breakfast was in the main restaurant. It was busy and a little chaotic but the spread - more so Asian than Western - was extensive and staff were polite and friendly. We ate one evening in the Lang Ting - as the Silks House restaurant was fully booked and it sounded like you definitely needed to book in advance. The food and service in Lang Ting were decent but somehow it lacked atmosphere with very few furnishings and artwork to give it much character. We had a Tai Pan King Club room which was a good size. Nothing particularly to note but pleased to say that housekeeping each day was prompt. Staff across the hotel were very helpful, polite and friendly. Apart from reception, English was limited but that didn’t cause us any issues as everyone was willing to communicate and that’s more our own shortcoming for not speaking Chinese! Overall we would recommend this hotel for a stay in Taipei. Next time we come we hope to properly experience Tai Pan!

A Memorable Stay with Outstanding Service at Regent Taipei. Of course there is still room for improvement to make it a perfect

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

We recently enjoyed a 3-night stay at Regent Taipei. It’s a pity the more exclusive Tai Pan Lounge was closed for renovation, so we could only use the Balcony Lounge. To compensate, we received a NTD1000 credit per person per day for dinner at The Gallery. Initially, the food choices were limited, but thanks to Lily from the Platinum Members Team who helped with our reservation, we got to enjoy our favorite lobster pasta and beef steak on the last night—plus the best table by the window! Lily also kindly greeted us again at checkout and thanked us for our feedback. A special thanks to concierge Joseph, who has been serving the hotel for over 30 years. He was very kind to us from the moment we arrived and impressed us with his excellent English! There were some signs of wear and tear in our junior suite, but overall acceptable considering the hotel’s age. However, we found the corridors a bit too dark, and the room direction signage wasn’t very clear. The lifts also lacked brightness. If stairs aren’t your thing, use the only lift connecting the lobby and the lower floors where the Brassiere restaurant is located for buffet breakfast. Overall, Regent Taipei is truly a gem with superb service, classic vibes, and a prime location. We look forward to returning. Thanks again, Lily and Joseph, for your exceptional professionalism and assistance!

Stayed here for a layover, and I will actively avoid this property moving forward. It is far overpriced for what it has to offer. Location is great, but the staff can be transactional, facilities outdated, and amenities lacking. I have stayed at this property several times in the past and was impressed by the warmth of the staff and the amenities. However, these stays were prior to Covid, and all of those were gone. My current stay was a one-night layover. I am by the way a Diamond Ambassador at IHG. Upon check in, they told me my room was upgraded but that they can only allow me to check in if I accept a check in past noon and a check out at 7AM the next day! This was despite the fact that they emailed me several days prior asking about my arrival details! (At other properties, I have been offered a room within an hour or two of an early arrival with possibility of no upgrade, or a higher room with a longer waiting time). I finally got to my room and the carpet was musty and stained. Aircon was not cooling well past sunset and I woke up at 3AM sweating. Bed was rock hard. Their welcome fruit platter had been greatly reduced from prior to Covid. Staff were very very transactional and not once was I asked how my stay was. I skipped breakfast the next day and left at around 5AM, ahead of my planned check out time. Horrible experience for an approximate $300 night. By the way, their "leave a review" option on the IHG web site is deactivated. I wonder why.

Solid hotel with friendly staff, but dated rooms and overwhelming crowds

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

I stayed at the Regent Hotel Taipei for several nights. Overall, it’s a solid upscale option, but there are a few things to be aware of. The room felt a bit dated, with wall-to-wall carpeting that smelled slightly musty. The hotel itself seems like a cross between a luxury shopping mall and a hotel, so at times you’ll find huge crowds everywhere. If you want to dine at one of the two Robin restaurants, be prepared: you apparently need to book at least a month in advance. There were no exceptions even for hotel guests, which was disappointing. Breakfast feels like an invasion—hundreds of people descending on the buffet all at once. If you don’t like crowds, go early. On the plus side, the rooms themselves were quiet, and the staff was genuinely friendly and helpful. Also, there are no bathroom amenities by default due to environmental policies, but you can request them separately

Aging hotel with big rooms that are not modern and smell musty. Don't let the expensive shops fool you, this is 3 star.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

This is not a 5 star hotel, it is dated, needs updating and is not a luxury hotel by most standards. IHG describes it on their website as "5 Star Luxury Accomodation". It is not. The hotel reminds me of a hotel in Vegas that has not been maintained properly. The hallways and rooms smell strange. Some old cigarette smoke, cleaning products and general dampness. The hotel room smelled very musty. The restaurant buffet while large, does not have very good offerings if you want a western breakfast. The bathroom in the room needs major updates. Much of the grout had cracked out and there were large sections that had been caulked - very poorly- to cover the lost grout. The room itself was a good size, but you need a key to get in an out of the room- no electronic locks. The bed was very hard. There was a tv seating area but no outlets in this part of the room so you couldn't charge any devices. The wifi got very weak the closer you got to the hallway and did not work in the bathroom. The breakfast restaurant is on a floor that is not reached by the main elevator, though I believe there is a second elevator that can be accessed from the ground floor to take you to the restaurant. The staff was polite and there were plenty of people working. The strangest part of the hotel might be the entrance. The hotel is situated up a ramp from the street level and there is a lot of traffic because many cars cut through to get from two one-way streets on either side. If you get dropped off by car or cab it is fine but if you walk up to the entrance it is very inconvenient. This hotel needs a major renovation and intense dehumidifiers in the rooms.
