Grand Hotel Timeo, a Belmond Hotel, is a storied hideaway in the heart of Taormina. Set high on rugged cliffs, next to the magnificent Greek Theatre, its views span majestic Mount Etna and shimmering Naxos Bay. Since the mid-1800s, this tranquil enclave has proved irresistible to celebrated writers and Hollywood icons alike. Its famed Literary Terrace has welcomed Oscar Wilde, DH Lawrence and Truman Capote, as well as dolce vita icons Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn. Though close to the action, the hotel is in its own serene world, far from the crowds.

Beautifully positioned in the old hill top town of Taormina, this hotel is evidentially old in structure, but it has been refurbished sympathetically around its unparalleled views along the coast and towards the imposing Mt Etna. What it lacks in modernity it makes up for with old fashioned style and service. A shuttle down to its sister hotel Santa Andrea also gives access to a stylish beach club. It’s pricey but generally staff are excellent ( one exception who must be known to mgt) and the hotel facilitates peace and relaxation.

This hotel sums up charm, elegance and personal service. We had such a wonderful stay. Everyone we encountered was so helpful, polite and charming and fun (no formal stuffiness you can get in some 5* hotels). The views are stunning. If I have a criticism it is that I found it hard to leave the hotel to explore Taormina. The guys round the pool are so friendly, professional and efficient. The pool area was never busy during our stay so definitely no fighting for loungers here. The front desk are all amazing, but a special shout out to Giulia (guest relations manager) who was absolutely wonderful to us. I loved the quality touches from the fabulous bedding to the frette dressing gowns. We just felt cosseted from the moment we arrived. The gardens are manicured to perfection. Everywhere is spotless. We encountered a few other guests during our stay who all echoed the same sentiments. There is just something about this hotel that makes it special. Many return very regularly and I can understand why. Even if breakfast at home is a quick coffee, here you should allow around 90 minutes just to relax, take in the views & sample the breakfast delights (I suggest you try the pistachio granita with brioche..just divine). Over the years, we have stayed in numerous Belmond hotels in Europe & South America. This is one of my favourites now. We did manage to drag ourselves away one morning & walked down from the hotel to the Sant 'Andrea. I hadn't wanted to stay there because we are not really beach people but it was also delightful. Maybe for another time. A shuttle bus runs between the 2 hotels so you don't have to walk back. We had dinner at Ristaurante Timeo one evening. Not an inexpensive meal (the wine list prices can be eye watering!) but the setting was beautiful as the sky darkened & the lights below & above us came on. Non residents are able to walk into the hotel & eat/drink & wander around but this did not seem intrusive. We just felt very grateful & lucky that we were actually staying in the hotel. We were sad to check out but have happy memories that we will treasure.

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. It is expensive, but well worth it! The staff are so friendly and helpful, and go out of their way to make your stay luxurious and special. The concierge contacted us before our arrival and set up our transfers to/from the hotel and our cabana rental. The concierge also made restaurant reservations for us in the city while we stayed there. The restaurants on the property were all great, although I'll admit that I'm not a 4-hour dinner kind of girl, which is what our meal at the Michelin Star Otto Geleng restaurant was, but the rest of our group was in heaven. This was our last stop on a 16-day Sicily vacation, and the perfect way to end on the highest note possible.

Lovely week staying at the Grand Hotel Timeo in Taormina Sicily. Having stayed at Reid’s Palace in Madeira at the end of 2023, we hoped this Belmond hotel would also live up to expectations and it certainly has. Absolutely stunning property with uninterrupted views of the sea, Mount Etna and its own beautiful gardens (which have to be seen to be believed). From the minute we walked in the staff couldn’t do enough….friendly and welcoming but also very professional. The premium junior suite was excellent with a patio which enjoyed all the amazing views. Simply one of the best all round hotels we have stayed in. It is expensive, but you certainly get what you pay for, and we will return. Really good location right in the heart of the pretty town of Taormina which has plenty to see and do. The hotel is an oasis of calm in amongst the thriving town, where you literally can sit and listen to the birds. Sad to be leaving on Monday!
