El Monte Sagrado, situated in the mountains of Northern New Mexico, offers a serene setting surrounded by waterfalls, ponds, and towering cottonwood trees. The perfectly manicured grounds make this mountain retreat an oasis only a few blocks away from the town of Taos’s historic plaza and 20 miles away from world class skiing at Taos Ski Valley.

We've been coming to EMS for over a decade. For many years it was our favorite hotel and we would go every year. We know that something changed with management or ownership that caused problems with the EMS. I keep reading the reviews hoping things would get better, and so we booked it with caution. I'm happy to report our stay was excellent. Let's go one area at a time 1. Service- We had a few issues and need help from the staff. They crushed it and took care of our problems promptly. It's the level of service we had come to expect in the 2010s. 2. Room- Clean, no dust etc (we had a dusty room two years ago). Some of the furniture is old. But I honestly could care less. If the coffee table has scratches on it that does not impact my enjoyment of the hotel. I don't understand the obsession with the furniture in some of the negative reviews. I did not have that experience. The bed was great, comfortable, and clean. 3. Grounds- EMS is one of the most beautiful resorts in Taos. The grounds are immaculate and if need something to do walking the grounds is a great way to spend time. 4. Location- Close to downtown. You could walk if you had to, but the hotel car is there. 5. Valet- Really helpful, fast and friendly. Final Takeaway- There is a lot of hate in the recent TA reviews for EMS. We had a less than stellar experience a few years ago, but this stay was everything we excepted and I am happy to report I think El Monte is close, very close, to being at its best.

My daughter had her wedding ceremony & reception this past weekend & we have been working with & coordinating with the Heritage Hotel Event Coordinator, Lila Arender for the past few months (short engagement) AND I CANNOT SAY ENOUGH ABOUT LILA & THE ENTIRE TEAM AT THE Taos El Monte Sagrado!! As the Mother-of-the-Bride I found Lila an absolute professional who was very warm, loving, extremely detailed-oriented and a GREAT COMMUNICATOR!!! The grounds, accommodations, all the support services were fantastic!!! As with any wedding there will be speed bumps, but Lila was responsive at every turn!!!! I cannot recommend El Monte Sagrado AND Lila more highly...and did I say she is based in Albuquerque??!! THANK YOU TO LILA & ALL THE EL MONTE SAGRADO TEAM for a Magical Wedding Weekend and Experience!!!

This hotel has really gone down. Our room was not available due to plumbing issues. Rented a king bed was given a queen. Left clothes by mistake in a drawer. The next day stopped by to pick it up. Somehow it disappeared. My first time staying there it was very nice. I was very disappointed this time.

El Monte surrounds you with thoughtfully Southwestern appointed rooms and architecture. Dining is excellent. Our dinner and breakfast were elegantly presented and delicious. Public spaces and lounges are sumptuously decorated with beautiful textiles and art. The comforting and well planned landscaping will tempt you to linger outside and just enjoy. Staff is mostly kind and helpful. Scott welcomed us at breakfast and started our day with excellent service and good vibs. The cons: Initially booked a superior room, thinking the amenities would be wonderful. We were given The Egypt Room. The Egypt room feels large and empty. Not a place to cozy into, especially with a sarcophagus and black cobra snake lamp. The bath room is awkward. We rejected The Egypt room for a room in the American Indian wing. This room was smartly Southwestern, has sitting area, bedroom and wonderful shower. Here is what was disappointing: The hotel needs to work on its details.(Fish tank needs a specialist )Lobby showcases need rejuvenating. Rooms have many detailed lamps and wrought iron furniture, carved bathroom doors, all layered with dust. The choice of furniture in the hotel requires more attention than it is given. Although the Spa is highly recommended, the area is small without a private space to enjoy after a treatment, Small closet size showers with a curtain are available. There is one hair dryer. The pool is not connected to the Spa. The pool appeared dark, stagnant and unappealing.Management, you have a beautiful and sumptuous property, look beyond eye-level, look up, look down, it needs your TLC.

This was our first experience at this hotel and it did not disappoint! If you’re looking for quaint and quiet and close to the Plaza this is your place! They offer so many different types of rooms and the grounds are so beautiful! We stayed in the Bali suite which had a private courtyard and the best rain shower I’ve ever experienced! It’s only valet parking here but they offer a free shuttle to town and any place within 3 miles of the hotel. We definitely utilized the shuttle but we also walked back from town one day and it was only an 11 minute walk with a sidewalk all the way down. This hotel is a must stay if you’re heading to Taos!

The rooms were beautiful, the service fantastic and the meeting facilities were more than adequate - they were great! We were celebrating our 10th year in business and really wanted to reflect the charm of our area and your resort fulfilled all of our expectations!

El Monte Sagrado is a wonderful resort, beautiful both inside and out. My husband and I had our wedding here, and I would not have wanted it at any other place. The property has amazing rooms, uniquely themed and luxurious... The staff treated us like our wedding was as special to them as it was to us. Thank you, El Monte Sagrado, for making our wedding the most special day of our lives.
