Reviews for Fairmont Tokyo

Excellence in Luxury

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We had an amazing time! The hotel was beautiful and the views were amazing, highly recommend the Tokyo tower view for your room. The lobby here is stunning, the flowers and the details put into it. The pool was epic with the option of being inside or outside with views of the city. I appreciate the sauna and cold plunge too which I used every day after the gym. The amenities here are 5-star without a doubt. The breakfast was amazing here too! I had the breakfast every morning. I love a good Japanese breakfast with mackerel fish. Diana and Hikaru were so kind and so happy every time we arrived for breakfast. Diana also remembered my name every morning! The level of service here is beyond excellent in a way that will blow your mind! Every time we walked by there was a hello how are you and what is your plan today. Every time we had a drink the bartenders were so friendly, Denise was amazing and it was really nice getting to know her and she got to know us so well too, that was so pleasant! Anytime we walked to the lobby for a taxi there were at least five people there to greet you! The doorman John was so amazing and kind. This hotel provided a level of service I’ve never experienced elsewhere even at other 5-star hotels. This is the type of service that makes me want to come back. Yohta, Diana, Denise, Hikaru, and John all made our experience even more special so I hope they receive something special for their outstanding customer service because that is not common. I’ll be back here for sure!

Spectacular Hotel Experience With Some Operational Weaknesses. A rising star of Tokyo's luxury hotels.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Exceptional, impressive, and modern hotel — with a few areas still needing improvement, particularly the internet reliability. For context: I am an Accor Platinum and IHG Diamond member and spend around 80–90 nights per year in hotels. Overall appearance and atmosphere: 11/10 Simply stunning. By far the most impressive hotel I have stayed at in Japan — although also among the most expensive in its category. The attention to detail throughout the property is exceptional. The spacious lobby, spectacular flower “garden,” tasteful art pieces, and beautifully designed rooms create a luxurious yet modern atmosphere. The outdoor viewing deck and panoramic city views are spectacular. Location: 8/10 Very convenient location. Less than a 10-minute walk to Hamamatsucho Station, Takeshiba Terminal, and Shiba Park/Tokyo Tower. One frustration: I asked two different staff members whether there was a pedestrian route behind the hotel toward Hamamatsucho Station, since Google Maps suggested a much longer route along major roads. Both told me there was no direct path; one even claimed the area behind the building was still under construction. I explored anyway and discovered a beautifully designed pedestrian walkway leading to the station’s south gate in only 6–7 minutes. This easy access is a major advantage of the hotel and should be better communicated to guests. Staff: 8/10 Very attentive and consistently present. However, I experienced similarly excellent service at most Japanese five-star hotels, so this likely reflects Japan’s overall hospitality standards. Infrastructure / maintenance: 5/10 This is the category where my experience became mixed. There were a few small bathroom and toilet issues, but these were resolved quickly and professionally, so no major complaints there. The major problem was the unstable internet connection. My devices repeatedly showed “Connected, no internet access” several times per hour. Staff suggested disabling automatic switching to mobile data, and I spent considerable time troubleshooting additional settings such as randomized MAC addresses. After more than an hour of trial and error — and after discovering the same issue on my tablet — it became clear this was not a device-specific problem but a network issue. Eventually I purchased additional roaming data and stopped relying on the hotel Wi-Fi entirely. For me, this was close to a deal breaker. Facilities: 10/10 Probably the most stunning hotel pool I have seen in Tokyo. Excellent gym, several restaurants and bars, and beautiful overall design. I only had time to visit Driftwood: excellent cocktails, beautiful interiors, and fantastic nighttime views over Tokyo. Breakfast: 6/10 À la carte breakfast with a surprisingly limited selection. Guests can choose only three items unless paying extra. While this personally wasn’t a problem for me, it felt restrictive compared with the generous breakfast offerings at many significantly cheaper hotels. Service was inconsistent: cappuccinos arrived slowly, and used plates were not cleared promptly. Most surprisingly for a French hotel group Accor, croissants were not offered at all — a genuine disappointment. I ultimately skipped breakfast on my final morning and ate at the airport lounge instead. Recognition of Accor status: 8/10 As an Accor Platinum member, I received a room upgrade from bay view to city view, early check-in, and late checkout (although I could not use the latter due to an early flight). Unlike Sofitel properties, however, Fairmont does not provide lounge access to Accor Platinum members. Summary Overall, I was very impressed by the hotel. The design, atmosphere, and views are truly exceptional. I hope the property continues to mature by addressing the smaller operational issues — especially the internet reliability — because the hotel has the potential to become one of Tokyo’s standout luxury properties. Good luck to the team.

A stunning hotel, fantastic customer service and attention to detail. The speakeasy bars and restaurants are intimate and very classy.
