Reviews for Shangri-La Tokyo

Terrible experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

It’s took me one year to consider to write review about our stay at Shangrila La hotel Tokyo. We are back in Japan and planning to stay at Aman Tokyo and hope this experience will be unforgettable. I specialty want to write a note about GM Matthias Sutter ignorance and rudeness. Room was noisy he refused to move us to another room and to do anything nice to make our stay happier. It was a constant flow of concubines. I also complain about it to Matthias Sutter he ignored it. Concierge service was incompetent.

Stunning Hotel

Shangri-La Tokyo was amazing. The service and level of detail made us feel like we kings and queens. The food was fantastic and the location is impossible to beat. Shagari-La is a must stay.

Exquisite 5-night stay

I stayed here for 5 nights for a solo trip and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. This is my top favorite luxury 5-star hotel I’ve ever stayed at. Now I only want to stay at Shangri-La hotels! The luxury, detail and service can’t even compare to American 5-star hotel groups. Every detail oozes luxury from the elevator with the stunning crystal chandelier and “over the rainbow” original Judy Garland song playing over the speaker to the ultra comfy PJs (which I ended up purchasing a pair!) and the massive rain shower. I took advantage of the spacious bathtub and view every evening and enjoyed the skin-softening bath salts provided. The room is very spacious as is the closet. I loved my view of the Tokyo skytree tower and the window ledge – it allowed me to live out my “Lost in Translation” dream! The staff is super helpful, warm, and friendly. A few months before my trip, the concierge helped me book restaurants and on the day of my departure they escorted me to the airport bus station and helped me purchase a ticket. Top notch service. Luckily, I got to stay here through my husband’s corporate discount. Without the discount, I’d certainly stay here – it was worth every penny. I’d only stay at Shangri-La again whenever I return to Tokyo!

Like a dream!

One of my most memorable hotel stay experiences .... from the wonderful butler who assisted me all the way to the subway station to help me buy tickets to Akihabara and made sure I made it safely onboard to the courteous housekeeping staff who covered me with a blanket when they saw I was asleep on the sofa... to the incredible breakfast buffet... it was all like a dream! We have stayed at other 5 star hotels in Tokyo but the Shanri-La was by far the easiest and most welcoming experiences.

Stay During Sakura Season

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

I'm in Tokyo just for the cherry blossom and it's my first time trying out this upscale property. The stay was comfortable, and all staff are very polite and helpful. The breakfast offering at the lobby lounge was acceptable. The guest gets to choose one main course from their curated menu with some buffet items. Their japanese selection from the menu is highly recommended and I also like their pastries too. The whole service team is very prompt and attentive, and I would like to commend the friendly and cheerful Ms Thu Thu for making my breakfast an enjoyable experience. I'm generally happy with the hotel room which has a great view of the train station and surrounding buildings. However, need to highlight that the charging process of mobile device is slow; it will be great if the hotel could improve on this aspect. The ledge in the bathroom to place the shampoo, conditioner and bath gel etc is at such a low level which is not ergonomically conducive. Ideally such holder should be installed at a higher level to allow easy access without need to bend down to pick up/put down for a better showering experience. A swim at the pool is my favourite pastime and it's defintely a luxury to have swimming pool in Japan hotels. My first visit was okay. The second visit the next day encountered with a small episode as the pool attendant politely insisted that swim cap to be worn which I did not have with me. I can respect this policy though I'm not convinced that the falling hairs of few guests using the pool could choke the pool's drainage system. I was told to have my head stayed above the water level if I would like to use the pool which I reluctantly complied with. The pool attendant must have felt a bit sorry for me that he later lent me a swimming cap. I have stayed in many other luxurious properties which have similar requirement, but they are happy to provide the guests with swimming caps without making a fuss. I strongly urged the hotel to be more service-oriented in this aspect. Generally, I like the hotel's strategic location and I enjoyed my stay.
