Reviews for Northstar Lodge by Welk Resorts

Misrepresented

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

We’re currently staying at the Northstar. The info listed says “10 restaurants within .75 mile”, here’s the deal, not a single one was open for dinner last night or tonight! The resort is beautiful and has a village across the street, almost nothing is open because it’s “The off season”. Had we been told that we would’ve stayed elsewhere. A resort like this should have at least one restaurant open.

Low service quality and limited on-site amenities

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

The Hyatt Vacation Club at Northstar Lodge offers spacious accommodations with well-maintained grounds and exteriors, making it a great base for exploring the area, especially during ski season. The units are clean and equipped with full kitchens, private balconies, and fireplaces, providing a comfortable stay. However, the service at this property leaves much to be desired. During a recent off-season visit in May, guests were not properly welcomed at check-in and felt ignored by the staff multiple times. Communication from the staff was also lacking, which can be frustrating for guests. One major drawback is the lack of on-site dining options. The resort does not have its own restaurant, and during the off-season, many nearby establishments in the Village at Northstar are closed, with only one pizza place open. This can be inconvenient for guests looking for diverse dining options. Although they offer a convenient 24-hour fitness center, it is small and their equipment is outdated and not well-maintained. Another issue is the presence of pushy salespeople who try to sell timeshares. These salespeople can be rude and disrespectful to guests, making for an unpleasant experience. While the Hyatt Vacation Club at Northstar Lodge offers comfortable accommodations in a scenic setting, the subpar service and lack of on-site amenities can detract from the overall experience. Unless Hyatt improves their service level, it may be difficult to recommend this property to potential guests.

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 months ago

Resort and room is beautiful but sadly the front desk representatives are making this place lose returning customers. We did not feel welcome at all. It's bit confusing to where the checkin location is so we had parked in the front parking space area. My wife and 3 kids walked in asling the ladies in the front if this was the check in desk and the lady at the front desk with glasses i believe her name was Mariah was like this sure looks like an entrance right. She was so rude and disrespectful. We tried to ignore the comment and began to give her our Identification card and credit card. Before we can ask questions about parking or where to lodge, she immediately became rude and said, "are you those families who has 1000 of questions? You need to hold your questions as I have a process of doing things here." My little kids looked at her like wow she's really rude and doesn't seem to understand customer service. We proceeded to remain quiet and let her do her thing. She appeared to talk to her self and give my family attitude. She also had another person sitting on the computer few feet away (I believe her name is Summer- very very rude and should not be working in customer service) and she began to run her mouth about how families should have patience and to let them handle the check in. Now notice no one had said anything to, but she felt it was neccessary for her to say something. We really didn't feel comfortable at this resort after the type of service we received. Sadly I am writing this a bit late but as my family were planning another lake tahoe trip, this resort brought bad memories. Like they say some bad things don't leave your memories and this just happens to be that bad memory. I really hope management is aware of this on going issues and that they take such complaints serious.

Total gem! Mountain cabin retreat.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 months ago

The property recently because a Hyatt Vacation Club and has been completely refurbished. It’s incredible. My 2-bedroom unit had 2 huge bathtubs and 4 fireplaces! The atmosphere is cozy mountain cabin. I loved the stone and wood walls and comfortable sitting spaces. The property has two hot tubs, a heated pool, exercise room, fun 19-person private theatre, activities, and more. Staff was very friendly and helpful — special shout out to Everett. The Loge is across the street from Northstar Village which has dining, shops, a movie theater, and an ice skating rink in the winter. It’s also only 15 min from Lake Tahoe and Truckee. The property is a total gem! I worked remotely during the week and my family took the Zephyr train from the Bay Area to join me for the weekend. Off season is very quiet and peaceful. A great getaway!

Stay Away

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 9 months ago

We were charged for a reservation in February of 2023 that we did not make and, when we inquired, we were misdirected and then ignored by staff at Northstar, Hyatt, Marriott, or their affiliates. We are still waiting for a refund. It looks like the Northstar Lodge used to be owned by Welk Resorts but was recently bought by a timeshare company I've never heard of that uses the Marriott and Hyatt brands on its website. Stay away from this resort as the new owner has serious customer service problems.
