Isolated from the world, a serene gem in the Indian Ocean, the verdant island of Mauritius invites you to escape and unwind in the lap of luxury at The Oberoi Mauritius. Along 600 meters of crystalline oceanfront, with a blend of European, African and Asian style, guest villas at this exquisite hotel are a perfect fusion of beach bungalow and stylish modernity. Comfortable and plush, each room has a breezy tropical atmosphere, with sunken baths overlooking open-air gardens, and an abundance of warm light. Breathe in the fresh air as you recline in your gazebo, or splash in your private pool, all the while enjoying the incredible surroundings. As you gaze out over the ocean from underneath your thatched roof, take in the sweeping mountains in the distance, and sink into the blissful ambiance of The Oberoi Mauritius.

Overall experience The hotel deserves its 5 star rating but our first visit here fell short of the expected Oberoi experience in certain respects. Response to feedback The sign of an excellent brand and team is the way they respond to constructive criticism and feedback. When I provided the following feedback to the General Manager, on the last day of our 5 day visit, I received a prompt response from him (even though it was his day off) and other members of his team (including the excellent Natacha) - which clearly showed the team care, are keen to listen and eager to continually improve. Their response ensured we left the hotel feeling reassured by the values of Oberoi and their desire to ensure all guests leave happy. That is a credit to the team and to Oberoi. The positives There were certainly some touches of Oberoi quality, that we had experienced on visits to other Oberoi hotels. Raj (the limousine driver)) is a credit to the hotel and we were delighted by the tours and airport transfers we booked with him in the BMW 7 series; I would recommend him to every guest - a charming, knowledgeable and customer focused man. The greeting and check-in was well handled. The housekeeping team was excellent - with daily Oberoi touches. The many staff we met were all welcoming and helpful. The tennis court is a great facility. We didn’t have the chance to use the beach sailing/kyaking facilities, but it seems a very good provision. We very much appreciated the late check out. The breakfast menu is very good. The provision of a separate dressing room for clothes and luggage was very useful. The negatives - Our room was in the middle of a terrace of 3 sea-view bungalows. We were lucky that during our stay that no one was staying in the rooms either side of us. Had there been people there, we would have found the noise transference between the rooms unacceptable (at 07:30 on our final morning one room was being prepared for a visitor and the noise of scraping furniture, running water and other annoying sounds was very intrusive). When sitting outside we would have disliked the lack of privacy between the neighbouring terraces - being able to see the neighbour’s sun loungers and presumably overhearing their conversations due to our proximity to the other rooms. - Whilst our experience in the restaurants and bar was generally very good, we spoke to other guests who had mixed or poor experiences (noisy children at one meal, proximity of other diners in the gunpowder room, and an incident of slow service). - The (complimentary) visit to see a “Hindu Ceremony” was an interesting tour of the local temple but we did not see a ceremony. - The price of wine was very high as was the pricing of the mini bar (£90 for a half bottle of Veuve Cliquot for example). - We were unable to enjoy our last evening here due to loud music being played at a neighbouring hotel until mid-night. I don’t know how often this occurs (the note in our room indicated it was a one-off), but I think I have seen other comments about this online.

We just spent 10 days at The Oberoi in Mauritius to celebrate my 40th birthday — and honestly, we didn’t want to leave. We chose the hotel not only because of its amazing reviews, but also because we got engaged at The Oberoi in Marrakesh a few years ago and had the best time. So expectations were high — and this place absolutely delivered. We visited in June, which is technically winter and the low season in Mauritius, so the hotel wasn’t too busy. This actually turned out to be perfect — we often had the beach or pool to ourselves, which felt like such a luxury. Check-in was super smooth and done in our room, which was a lovely touch. We were initially given a sea view room close to one of the restaurants. Since we arrived at night and couldn’t see the view properly, we asked to see another room and even enquired about upgrading to a villa with a private pool — but they were fully booked. In hindsight, it makes sense why the place felt so quiet — most guests were probably relaxing in their villas (as we would’ve been too if we had one!). That said, our room turned out to be amazing. Great size, stunning view of the ocean, and we were perfectly positioned to watch the sunset every evening — and wow, the sunsets here are something else. The room had everything we needed: loads of space, a walk-in closet, a massive bathroom with a huge tub and shower, and even a private garden you could open up from the shower. Pressure and hot water were great. We were given plenty of drinking water, and we ended up using the minibar as our own little fridge to keep bottles cold — worked a treat. The blackout blinds were great, the bed was super comfy, and we even got to choose our pillows before we arrived (which we fully took advantage of). We slept incredibly well throughout the stay. Special shout-out to the housekeeping team — they were honestly world class. There was one lovely lady (we didn’t catch her name, unfortunately) who left us flowers and towel animals and just made the whole experience feel even more special. Breakfast was really good, though I did have a bit of a saga trying to get my iced coffee order right at first. It took a few attempts, but Akshay was amazing — he got it spot on and was always lovely to deal with. Dinner was consistently excellent. We were on half board so we managed to try most of the menu, which changes halfway through the week. The main restaurant was easily the best. Gunpowder (only open twice a week with limited seats) was okay but didn’t blow us away. On The Rocks had a gorgeous setting but quite a limited menu. Still, the food overall was great. A big thank you to Mevin, Shaani, Alam and Aditya for looking after us so well. We also had a brilliant massage at the spa — the therapists really know what they’re doing. Would 100% recommend. If I had to be picky, I’d say there were a few service inconsistencies early on (mainly with breakfast orders), and the adult pool sometimes had ducks dropping by and… leaving little surprises. Not ideal, but it didn’t ruin anything — and to be honest, the ducks are kind of hilarious. They waddle up to the restaurant during meals and have real personality. We may have fed them a few breadcrumbs. They definitely add to the charm. Overall, we had an incredible time and made memories we’ll never forget. This is our second Oberoi stay and once again, the experience was top notch. The brand really stands for quality, and the staff make all the difference. Thank you to everyone at The Oberoi, Mauritius — we can’t wait to come back!

Wow the Oberoi was amazing! From the location to the accommodation and the fabulous staff. Attention to detail was outstanding, and the food was sensational. The only disappointment was we could not stay longer! I would highly recommend staying here!
